I have an outside hot water tap I simply fill a couple of watering cans full of hot water. It takes a couple of minutes, in combination with the cars own heating system. (Ps always start off by pouring hot water on the metal part of the cars roof first, before allowing it to run down the frozen windscreen. This takes the shock of very warm water on the wind screen.

Why the F is this guy taking his hands off the wheel? Jaguar's system is not designed to be (or advertised as) a self-drive, nor as a system that you babysit, it's literally the opposite: a system that assists YOU, the driver of the car, if/when you inattentively start to drift out of your lane or threaten to ass-end the car in front of you. Your job in this car, at all times, is inanely simple: drive the car, with your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road and on other drivers. That he would post this here as a 'test' of something that doesn't exist, and that others are responding as if this thing were obviously 'failing' at what it isn't supposed to be doing... the fails are all around, but not with this car or its driver-assist systems. The Tesla referral link is icing on the cake. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I would say it is pretty interesting to find the real limits. Nothing to be angry about. Compare it to my ID.4 video as well, which is a more capable system. Of course you need to pay attention all the time, also on Tesla. I prefer the industry setup that Jaguar, VW, Audi and others have, not how Tesla does it. I would prefer a light chime when it loose track of the lane though.

I think you are quite wrong to say Tesla AP suggests drivers shouldn't pay attention. The video is overexposed. You can maybe use the earphones from a smartphone as a microphone to better record your voice.
@eirik500
@eirik500 3 жыл бұрын
The warning in Tesla says "pay attention" you are correct about that. But the "pling" implies "Car is in control", and the "plong" implies "drives is in control". It is a binary user interface, where the driver "must be able to TAKE OVER immediatly". In Tesla, only one at a time can be driving. VW has a blended, non-binary user interface. Both the system and the driver are controlling the VW at the same time. You don't need to take over control, you are in control all the time, with a system assist.
@DanFrederiksen
@DanFrederiksen 3 жыл бұрын
@@eirik500 the fact that VW uses a blended style doesn't mean what you claimed, so you are still wrong. that it might be nicer to have a blended style is an entirely different matter. Some people including some in the press imagine that tesla promises you don't have to pay attention and you do the same here. don't make that mistake. And on a side note, VW autopilot is nowhere close to Tesla FSD beta nor even pre beta which can drive on city roads. You might be frustrated that Tesla isn't giving you more but that's not a good basis for misrepresenting the truth :) it sounds like wide roll out of FSD as a beta is close.

@@DanFrederiksen I am aware and agree that you have to be alert using Autopilot. But the design of the system, the user interaction, is not optimal to emphasize the need to be alert. The AP user interface will make the driver more complacent. The need to be alert using Autopilot is bigger than many thinks. Some drivers misunderstand this, and a few died even. With VW, you can not misunderstand it. FSD beta is a totally different discussion. I paid for it in 2017 and will not pay for vaporware again! What should be the price, if it is available feature complete, depends on the capability. FSD level 2 (assist) is not worth any sum, FSD level 3 or level 4 is worth a lot.
@DanFrederiksen
@DanFrederiksen 3 жыл бұрын
@@eirik500 no, you are stil holding on to your mistake. repeating it doesn't make it less wrong. only compounds your errors. There is no reasonable doubt in tesla users. if they were to doubt it they would crash within seconds. so you are 100% wrong. tesla AP doesn't last well unattended so any doubt about responsibility would very quickly be confronted with a crash. it's very simple. you even drive a tesla so you know this... you messed up. deal with it instead of defending it.

@@eirik500 You know, as do I, that in some situations, Tesla Autopilot never makes wrong. In other situations you always have to be cautious. It's always the drivers responsibility, a driver assist is never responsible. But it's paramount to know who's driving, else you have no help from the driving assist. There's been situations when I believed the car was driving, but it obviously wasn't, these two or three times has been a real scare.

@@BerntGranbacke Agree. And sometimes AP does wrong where it usually does not. But if one get in a dangerous situation because one believed the car drove itself, and it did not, then one used the system wrong, having too much confidence in it. In VW one can never do that. With Tesla one can, but should not. I would say that Tesla AP almost forces a bigger distance between driver and car than VW.

I agree. I never take my hands off the steering wheel, when using Travel Assist or Autopilot. The difference to me is that with Travel Assist I have to provide steering input, while with Autopilot I can “relax” my arm and stay alert. I have Travel Assist and I like it a lot. Did a 1200km road trip last week and it really made it a lot easier 😁😁😁 That being said it is not as capable as Autopilot. Lane centering is less reliable and there is more ping-pong (but not too bad 😊). It does however mix up lane lines and road edges on some freeways, which results in the car going over the lane line and waaay too close to the crash barriers. But no ADAS is perfect and I would definitely not be without this if I was to buy another VAG car 😊

People get complacent without driver assistance features. Accidents happen when people are drowsy or have short lapses in attention. Having a system that can disable at any time without warning creates mode confusion and virtually guarantees that some accidents that could have been prevented will not be, because the system disengaged precisely when the inattentive driver needed it the most.
@eirik500
@eirik500 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I would prefer a small warning sound when disengaging. But VW's approach is probably safer than Tesla's "Hand over control to the car" in my opinion. The Tesla says to the driver "don't interfere" and that will make driver even more complacent, as one can see from other videos with defeat-devices, backseat driving and similar stupidity. With this VW, even if it is capable, you really understand pretty fast that paying attention all the time is the only way.

Sorry, no Ys in Europe yet, it seems it will have a more roomy interior. The Jag is a really great drivers car, great refined interior, quiet, you sit higher than a 3. The 3 looks smaller and more direct - with more noise, vibrations etc. The media-system in the Tesla is better with a bigger screen, less lag, better EV-integration. Also, the Jag DC charges rather slowly compared to the Teslas, and the consumption is somewhere between the S and X, so lower range pr minute charged. All are good choices.
