Emma thank you so much for having the courage to speak out! It is difficult for anyone to admit struggles as a mom. It is like there is such an expectation that some kind of instant knowledge will come when they hand you your baby! I thought I was alone and no one else felt like me.
You are my favorite human. All of your work supports all of my work. Thank you for doing the work I am not good at.

Only at first glance it does. I’m not big on politics and I don’t profess to be an expert, but I think that there is very little difference between the main party’s now in either the UK or the US, and maybe even in the EU, with there being only an illusion of choice. Labour started lurching to the right after Neil Kinnock’s second successive General Election defeat in June, 1992; they knew that they would never be elected on an old left platform because the middle classes like their creature comforts, having grown up under two generations of American inspired consumerism, perfectly mirrored by Bill Clinton’s now infamous “It’s the economy, stupid” remark to a journalist during his election campaign when running for the US Presidency against George Bush Sr, also in 1992. In 1997 finally, after 18 years and four consecutive thumping defeats, the penny dropped for Labour. The process of overhaul had started under John Smith and was sped up when Tony Blair succeeded him after Smith’s unexpected, early death in 1994. They took a multilateral view on nuclear disarmament, promised not to revoke any recent Trade Union legislation and to lay off of punitive taxation; all rightwing policies which had served the Tories well and which ‘New Labour’ had modified after studying the policies of the Democrats in the US. The bankers and money people in the shadows had now got what they wanted - controlled opposition, with broadly similar policies between all the main party’s. The Lib Dems are in the centre but only command a few seats. The only real left wing party’s in the UK are the SNP, Plaid Cymru and Sinn Fein, but they are all small, regional bulwark organisations in the grand scheme of things. The Australian idea of the political compass isn’t perfect but it’s an interesting idea that attempts to measure a person’s true political leanings; not by party dogma, but by a series of questions in a survey style. These questions are designed to measure a person’s views on a whole plethora of subjects; family and parenting, religion, sex and marriage, immigration, law and order, drugs and alcohol and patriotism etc; helping to plot where you might stand not just in a left to right sense, but also with regard to a libertarian/authoritarian perspective. They have a website where any individual can participate by simply filling in the answers and plotting their own position. If you haven’t already, maybe you should give it a try. People are often amazed after filling it in to find that their own position is at a wide variance to the views expressed in the manifesto’s of the political party’s that they support.

All government planning is shorterm. Planning to the next election. Thats a major problem. Unless it delivers shorterm ,before the next election, political parties are NOT interested . Simple as.

If Tony Blair said that grass is green and the sky is blue, I would go outside and check for myself. If I see anyone relying on Blair as an authority, given his lies, I assume they are lying as a matter of experience.

So true! We should make teaching about emotional health an integral part of the training for adults working with young children, particularly to support the children we are most worried about. Let's start planting trees in the early years (instead of continually gathering short term data) where the evidence of efficacy cannot be charted immediately but having research led trust that futures are being shaped in a positive way.

Centre for Early Childhood is doing an important work #SHapingUs, which, unfortunately doesn't as much traction and attention online as the royal scandals. Let's hope this will change very soon.

Thanks for this great campaign and working with sensitising businesses to provide more support for employees and customers. As an advocate for early development and maternal empowerment for over 40 years we know that it is during pregnancy from conception that we get "hardwired" to live in love or fear, that give us the deep feelings of being wanted, safe and loved or the opposite. What is your company doing towards maternal empowerment to give mums the knowledge and support to optimise conditions and outcomes for their children pre- and perinatally? Thanks
