That huge microphone Ms. Martin sings into is an RCA KU-3A. Reputedly only 600 of them were ever built, most sold to Hollywood studios. Its most unusual feature (on the inside) was a metal labyrinth stuffed with (get ready for this...) IMPORTED BRITISH COW HAIR. The cow hair is what apparently gave it its unique tone quality. I've heard it referred to as everything from "the Hollywood dialogue mic" to "Mel Blanc's microphone!"

I was very very lucky to see Once Blue in Atlanta! I stumbled on the CD at a used record store and HAD to see them live. After I lived with the record for a while...I would buy as many copies as a store had and gave them out to people. I told them... "trust me, listen to this record, you'll thank you me later." I still listen to this CD a few times a year and am moved as if it's the first time I've heard it. The fate of the band seems cruel to me. I wish things would have turned out differently for such an amazing group of musicians. Cheers to Once Blue! Thank you for the timeless music!

YO!!!! AWESOME! (along with the shows uploaded!) To this day, Once Blue / Lisa Loeb at Irving Plaza is still the best complete show I've ever seen in my life so far. I remember Kurt was sick with the flu? The show was incredible all around. Then got to see Rebecca at The Living Room after Thoroughfare came out - still have both the Once Blue and Thoroughfare copies she signed for me back home, and, i am fairly sure someone I met there mailed me a cassette of that show? but 1994 - are we going to get a 30th Anniversary "Tour" and some shows?!?! I can't say some of the 30 year cycle resurgence hasn't been enjoyable. Saw Sunny Day Real Estate twice last year, seeing them again in October, Juliana Hatfield has toured consistently, excited to see her again, also in October - I get the feeling i may need to find an excuse to go home and visit if there is an opportunity to see Once Blue again as I live on the west coast now. It's interesting "Growing up" and seeing how limited our time becomes when we choose responsibilities, I spent close to 3-5 days a week in NYC seeing shows from 93 through the 90s. It's crazy how 30 years later you can really assess and appreciate some of the artists, writers, film makers we still connect with or listen to often. SDRE, Juliana, Natalie Merchant, Once Blue and Rebecca found their way into my life and never left. I can never express how thankful I am now getting on 50 to have lived in the same timeline as some of these artists who helped me understand the world before i realized I was surrounded by friends and family who were. Sometimes we need that pop culture kick start to see this. Thank you for getting this stuff up here for us.

I rediscovered the Once Blue debut CD earlier today as I was looking through a large box of CD's that I had packed up for a move last year. When I saw it, I thought "Wow, I loved that band, but haven't listened to this for years". I was about to put it in my PC to download it to iTunes, but I figured I'd search KZbin to see if any Once Blue videos came up and this fantastic live performance was the first result! I lived in NYC from 1994-1998 while going to graduate school and watching this video brings back so many good memories of seeing them perform live in a small club in either 1995 or 1996 (I might have seen more than once). Thanks for posting this because it reminds me why I instantly loved Once Blue from the first listen...great vocals, songwriting and musicianship and nice people.

Nice. And perfect for play along practice duo trio vocal etc wow what a treasure. call me if you do a gig in Frankfurt . Hello to the coast side guy who I used to see with Smith at the Garden City. There's a Polish trumpeter I hear here sometimes , he was on the street doing this last night playing along with i pro. He told me this song is for him all about his Oma when he plays it. That was was some nice street busking music.

I only discovered Once Blue (Martin & Harris's project) a few years ago, i.e., about 20 years after their short-lived career. That they didn't become well-known performers seems to me to be an implicit condemnation of the 1990s record industry, which probably just didn't know what to do with genre-crossing talent this great. There seems to be little record of their short but extensive touring (Martin discovered a live concert recording that she released via iTunes a couple years ago). So thanks, Rebecca, for posting this-a real treasure for those of us who came late to the game! -Tom

I heard this on a college radio station in Princeton, NJ. Mesmerized by her sonic similarities to Rickie Lee Jones. What a great song. This takes me back to rides to the beach.
