Freddy, go for it. It took me a year to cut my time from 28 to 23:30, for me it was the longer long runs made the difference. I knew that a 4:30 was achievable over the first couple of km but the 4 & 5 I just faded rapidly. Once I could knock out a 10km with no bother I pushed onto 15km, it wasn't long before a 5km parkrun felt like a jog in the park. Now I just need to feel in the mood to go at the race hard as I've the stamina to power through 5km.

Would disagree about 8 weeks not being a long enough block to improve a 5k; you could do an 8 week block for a marathon and it still wouldn't be crazy short. Semi-related but I've got a marathon next Sunday and ended up only having time to do an intense 3-week block around 70-80k per week - since I'd done the Coast to Coast hike a couple weeks prior and had no long continuous period to build towards the marathon. Anyway yeah, 8 weeks is plenty of time to work on a 5k, all you can do is work with the time you've got in any case
@Journeyoflee8 күн бұрын

Thanks for posting this. I’ve just signed up for my first 5km park run having gone from no exercise to walking, walking/running and then running over the past 6 months. Like you I have to work away a lot and while I try to build in time to get out it’s not always possible due to meetings overrunning or delayed trains. I’ve found this even more stressful knowing that it means I will be unable to exercise, and then try to ‘make up’ for it the next day. A stupid idea and one I need to avoid. I love the channel by the way. Very inspiring

Nice vid Freddy. You might recall a guy saying hello and declaring he was a follower of your channel as you went into the toilets at Blyth parkrun last week - that was me! And I did TM this week too! I was only 30 secs in front of you. Can't lie, I always start quite far forward and stay right at the edge of the path to let people go past me because it's so congested. Will be awesome to see if you can make sub 24.30! I can only dream of this, despite how hard I am trying to get back to that sort of form. Happy running 🙂
@freddyruns14 күн бұрын
I definitely recall 😊 - Are you targeting a time to aim for, or just enjoying the process of running? I'm hoping to get back to Blyth this Saturday to see how the first 2 weeks has gone.

@@freddyruns My goal last year was to try and run my fastest time post lockdown (ideally sub 26.30 and I did that. I broke 26 very early this year 25.54. My current aim is to try and break 25.30. I'm hopeful but think it's a very tall order. Will use your channel to inspire my training! Which plan are you using? Just one you came up with yourself? Not sure where I'll be on Saturday yet but Blyth is a favourite so will give you a shout if I see you 🙂
