Hey Missy, you probably don't remember, but Holly, my paint mare that you started under saddle for me when she was three, is turning 20 this year. She's just been a wonderful horse for me all these years and I think much of it has to do with the love and understanding she got from you during those first lessons. Thanks! Jana Gray & Holly

Cool Informative and insightful. However, riding bareback without any protection on the horse's back is harmful please take an overall picture of the horse and rider. The horse was not made for riding. Yes, we have bred horses to be able to carry a rider especially if lots of pre-training excuses are done. But gear is needed to protect the spine

So many videos use horses that are already trained. It's nice to see what it really looks like to teach a horse that doesn't understand what you're asking

This is a great way to teach lunging but it won’t work my my youngster as before I got him he was beaten with a lunge whip until he was forced to jump a 5 bar gate onto concrete to get away so now anytime he sees a lunge whip he will freak and run, no way of stopping him until you drop the whip. So tapping him on the shoulder would freak him out. We’ve tried lunging him before and he yanks away and stands in the corner of the arena shaking where he’s just so scared of what his old owners/breeders did to him 💔

A horse is smarter than most people. Like a lot of animals. Ride a horse home drunk from the bar. He's better than uber. Gotta laugh but true. There way better than that. They can read you. Can you read and compliment the horse ?

So great to hear that there is another step from natural horsemanship to holistic horsemanship. I feel like there are so many people and even professional horse trainers that are sort of tunnel focused. But if every human would see the whole picture, there will suddenly be so much more softness and lightness achievable - right from the beginning. There are people that think, it has to start rough in a dominant way and softness has to be established lateron, but I dont think that this is true. I feel like holistic means as well, that not only mental emotional and physical states has to be included, but also the whole time with horses has to be included, not only the second half of living. Thank you for your thoughts.

I have no real experience with horses other than riding them a few times. Based on watching KZbin videos, I think you may have been able to get her to move to your left more easily with a flag extended more toward her rear quarter. (behind the drive line) She was mostly responding by backing up. as you moved forward into her.

The fear of having no controll is ones own not the horse's.... if we are his leader he will follow. Even when the horse is ridden by others who do use the bit. we choose not to hurt him and be his leader whom he can TRUST.

I just found your page last night. And all of your training techniques are just perfect! What I like the most is how you're using language while you're doing it. Peacefully and calm. It will really help me when explaining to others what I'm doing and why. When I started learning, I was training under a really rough cowboy. He was using all the fundamentals but with a totally different energy. Honestly I think finding your page was a gift from God, so I really appreciate you taking the time to post for us. And I will definitely be saving up to join your course. I think that would be very healing, and a great start to a new chapter.

What if your horse doesn’t let you touch her? I can touch her if I have treats but I feel like that’s maybe tricking her in reality. She is very fearful she got bit by a rattlesnake when she was little and has never been the same. She has been with a few trainers who did no good she is now 30 years old has great personal space boundaries and faces me but the trust just isn’t there. A month ago she wouldn’t take a treat from me now we meet morning and night she walks up to me or maybe this just takes time thank you for your helpful videos love your work great stuff 🙏
