Great video! With Excalibur, can you make a shortcut to create speed ramps? I've yet to find a plugin that will let you nest the clip, then click fx, then click time remapping and then do the speed ramp. That would be so dope.

Wow, I don't know how, but somehow all my friends who use fuji, nikon, canon and sony look EXACTLY like you showed them. And I mean EXACTLY the same. Edit: Holy shit, I didn't even notice only the canon person used camera harness. And guess what? My friend who uses Canon wears them all the time. Like holy shit.

I've just started doing this and I love it. I have several friends in bands here locally and the small venues know me ok. At best, I get in free and the band will buy me a drink. My question is... what should one EXPECT a band to pay you for photos? Obviously, a popular band is going to be a highly experienced photog a lot, and a local band is going to pay a newb like me less, so what's the scale? From starting out to being fully in the scene?

Nice shoot, love the simplicity and the angle. Came here to see the difference between the 24mm n end up appreciating your work. Love the way the video is done, simple, not overhyped. I’m a pro photographer myself for 30 over years 🙏 well done guys

Carry two cameras; each with different lenses. Best lens is a 24-70, but if you're bold and looking for 1 out of a million shots, use a 35 or 50mm prime and pray. Same with a 70-200mm lens. Don't walk out of there without some 10-24mm shots. Find out where the stage lights hit band members hair, and then wait for it. Be early. Like, an hour early. After your three songs in the pit, work yourself to the front, but outside the pit. Be kind, but try to get to the center. That spot is priceless for photographers. As the members tune their instruments up, don't be shy...capture images of them turning pots and plugging in wires. Those are interesting. Lastly, if you don't have $5K of gear on you, don't sweat it. Henri Cartier-Bresson, Vivian Maier, Diane Arbus, and Steve McCurry all started with cameras far less powerful than your smartphone, and they literally set the bar so high for photographers that we're all still trying to reach it. If your composition is great, or if you got really passionate shot, or one that makes you smile, you're on the right track. As I have said for years, strive for photos that, when people see them, say "Oh wow" instead of "Wanna go get coffee?"

So, here is my real question; who came up with the "first 3 songs" rule? And... why? Do they just want the pit empty for the majority of the show? And after 3 songs, the bulk of the crowd is there?
@TerryWelchBoiseIdaho4 күн бұрын
@@JamAshleyFilms The first three songs is when performers model for the photographers. It takes a lot of energy that is directed at the pit, and not so much at the crowd. It's photo-op time. They hope to put on their best imagery, up close. It's the weird angles and the looking Down's at the camera. It's the close-up screams or cries or whatevers. After the first three, performers direct their energy toward the crowd. Not every performer knows how to take advantage of photographers in the pit, but the media-aware ones do. The visually-aware ones do. And it shows.

Good ! Wish you would talk about the film itself, where to get, processing, display, ditigitizing, etc. Cameras: 500 C/M, Leica CL, Omegaview D, Autocord, 4x5 Speed Graphic, unmetered Nikon F and Nikkor 50 /1.4, handheld meters ?

Interesting video. I have to say I was more inspired by the choice of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” sound track, which has a nice pointer to never giving up on film. Though the cost and disappoint at missing a film shot gave way, for me, to the flexibility of digital images… which then became easier to emulate as film in post manipulation. Maybe it’s because I started out over so many years with only film…. thousands of negatives… that it doesn’t carry that nostalgic charm. I can see how it would though for younger shooters. It’s just too costly to take a chance, for some of us. Getting back to the music’s great sound! It is clear that Astley got his style from another band that made their mark in 1981 called ABC. They put out a killer album called “Lexicon of Love” in 1982, that is an obvious influence and still one of my favorite releases. If you’re into that sound, versus a style choice for this one video, I highly recommend the “Lexicon of Love” album. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Just little tip. Although the Contax T2 is a great camera and as you say is a bit expensive, the Contax TVS is just as good and can be had at a third of the price or less, $200-300. I picked up a TVS this summer and it blew me away by how good (Sharp) it is.
