I was thinking by the time you was finished, all that would be left on the lift was 4 wheels, seats and a steering wheel! This work really shouldn't of been necessary on a vehicle of that age, definitely a friday 4:55pm build!

@mlc4x433
@mlc4x433 3 ай бұрын
I would disconnect chassis links then you can move the arb to see if it clunk's. If it doesn't it should be fine unless it leaks a lot. if links are shot they want changing first to see as they are a little bit cheaper

Great video thanks for posting! Roughly how long did this take you? And do you think it would be doable with the Landy on 4 wheel ramps rather than a big post lift? Thanks!
@mlc4x433
@mlc4x433 5 ай бұрын
Hi mate, it took about 4 hours to do it on the lift. It will be awkward on ramps as the height is not so comfortable to work at. I have pulled plenty of transfer boxes off with the truck on the ground so as long as you can lift the transfer box without hurting yourself you'll be fine. It will take a bit longer but definitely doable without a lift.
@druesteele
@druesteele 5 ай бұрын
Ah okay thanks. Do you think it would be easier to drop the gearbox and transfer case as one unit? I’m thinking of biting the bullet and getting a new clutch in there at the same time unless it’s impossibly difficult
@mlc4x433
@mlc4x433 5 ай бұрын
It's a heavy lump to manhandle and I would take transfer off anyway to make easier. if clutch is OK I wouldn't, depends how it feels and how many miles on it/type of use
@druesteele
@druesteele 5 ай бұрын
Okay thanks, understood. Basically there is backlash when changing gears which I’m 90% sure is the output shaft. But also a slight rattle when in neutral and clutch pedal is up so I’m thinking the clutch/something in there is on the way out. 100k miles. Normal driving and infrequent heavy towing. I think I’m about 70% convinced I’m going to attempt myself…!
@mlc4x433
@mlc4x433 5 ай бұрын
The gearbox is not any heavier than the transfer box, it's more awkward to get lined up with the clutch. You probably should change release bearing cylinder when you change clutch as it will fail straight after if you don't. I know because it happened to me

Delighted to see you slack the 3 bolts on the pump pulley. With the pump pinned, as you know, you need that variation to seat belt into teeth accurately. Have seen an experts video recently, and this necessary step was omitted. Having just done a 200 defender last week, i had referred to his video to remind me, as it had been a few years since I had done one. Interesting and clever move slackening cam stuff. I never did as with crank and pump locked, it was easy enough to hold with a ring spanner. The disco water pump bolts never provided the entertainment that the defender did, the 3 long ones. This os the real area of concern when doing a defender. they need to be heated at the block where they are seated. Sure as heck dont want to snap those out. Glad to say, i never did. And i have done a few of these belts over the years. Good show. You have better balance than i. The in the air engine wobbles somewhat.

When you have more rope on the spool winch is faster. Winch work really good when have 2x optima yellow 75ah 12v + 2 alternator 180a 12v and possible is fast overvoltage 24v. Maybe idea for next test.

I need to bleed my ace by any chance you have some pictures how to make the tool you make to bleed it..
@mlc4x433

I don't have any pictures, but I used an eezi bleed and a thin bit of inner tube to seal it to resevoir with a hole in middle. I then filled an inner tube to 8 psi and connected it to the eezibleed. This pressurises the system. Then you turn ignition on and off while you bleed it. Hope this helps
