Went on the Northern Rock the Sunday just gone with the better half, and enjoyed our little walk around Boot. Of course we had to visit both pubs for some ale as it was indeed very hot 😊.

I've been to Hardknott fort in England when I was a kid. It sucked walking up there as a 7yr old, I don't doubt that it is the steepest road in England it certainly felt like it, lol. But it made me love Roman history that's for sure. I remember that they had a line in the walls that denoted what was original and which was restored to give people a better idea of visualizing what it would have been like.

That’s right it does have a slate line in the wall. It’s an amazing place. Can’t imagine what it would have been like stationed there in the middle of winter! 🥶

I came across your video after doing a little research into my family history. I just got married and I was trying to figure out how to change my last name, which turned into looking up both of our surname histories. My last maiden-name is Luce which is a derivative of Lucy. Richard de Lucy is a predecessor of mine which led me to Egremont Castle. Your lovely poem at the beginning reminded me of my ox horn that I got from a Renaissance fair a couple decades ago and that I'm the only one who knows the trick to blow it, so I immediately retrieved it and gave it a few blasts while I danced around, driving my dog crazy 😂 thank you for the laugh and amazing history lesson.

Loads missed !! Errrrr......They still have the airbase which because of its famous history and all the work it did in the war effort for Britain is worth a visit/drive past! It is vast, it holds a massive car boot sale every Sunday. Many planes crashed into the Firth that you are stood by either on their return or practice runs that it became known as Hudson Bay (Canada). A pleasant walk from the very far end of the coast road from Skinburness around Grune Point past the same firth is a great walk, the pill box (used to be two) from the war years are still there, sorry, one is, well worth a look. Can see Victorian lamps are installed around the green now, that is a new addition. Mount Criffel is shown at the coast there with a fine view of Scotland on a fine day, the odd times one can see the actual green fields! What about the old police station that would be worth a showing and it is right next to where you filmed. Are the allotments still there, they are worth a viewing as not many of them survive now! Well you said say if I had missed anything (words to that affect) I better stop now or you will have no space left. PS Silloth 40ish mile awy from Keswick town, close to Cockermouth, all the area well worth a visit!

One of our favourite walks Never anything less than boggy along the foot of Melbreak. Lovely video. Not spoiled by meaningless comments. Completely share your appreciation of Crummock water. Heaven on earth. Parking is free at Lanthwaite, on road side car park and Cinderdale. Either one is good for circular walk around Crummock water. We sometimes use the bus to get back from Buttermere to Lanthwaite, to avoid walking on the narrow, sometimes busy, road. Thank you, vey much.

Hi Paul, You dont mention it in your video. But are you aware at all of the Lifting Stones that are recorded on the old maps? Im researching them currently and have been out hunting for them once but to no avail. I cam across your video on the old Bloomery and thought id reach out. Im hoping to be able to recover them but concerned that either the recent logging or construction of the YHA track may have buried them.

Good video. The name Itunocelum is a bit of an odd one, because Ituna was the Roman name for the River Eden, (the linguistic connection is obvious) which is in north Cumbria, flows through Carlisle and discharges into the Solway Firth.

Thank you so much for giving me a taste of the delights that await me- in June I am making a bucket list trip to spend time in St. Bees with a dear friend I met in Ecuador in 1973- she visited me in Washington state, Pacific Northwest, in 2015 and now it’s my turn. I’m 77 and had not expected travel again, but I can still walk with trekking poles. So why not?! Such beautiful country and delightful people, like my friends and yourself. Iwill continue my education with your past videos!

I have just booked a train journey to St Bees, from Newcastle via Carlisle as well as the return from Whitehaven. I'll have about 3 hours between trains I was initially just going to walk to Whitehaven along the road but now think I would like to visit the beach first at St Bees, then walk along the coastal path to whitehaven .. do you think I could easily do this in my 3 hour timeslot. Regards from Whitley Bay
@ThatllDoVlog
@ThatllDoVlog 6 ай бұрын
From St Bees station to Whitehaven station over the coast will be about 7.5 miles. It’s up and down & probably a bit boggy through the fields this time of year so 3 hours may be a stretch. If it was me, I wouldn’t attempt it.

Love the walk-a-round. Our great great grandfather, William Wales (possibly spelt Wailes at the time) came from Cockermouth. Born 1880 Cockermouth UK Died 1884 Rye Park Australia Sentenced as a convict about 1824 to Sydney Australia. Would be cool if there are any Wales / Wailes surnames to make contact with.

I think you meant to say he was born in 1780 , interesting that makes him 104 when he died and 44 when he was sentenced that’s amazing if correct
