Do not take it out like that, it is made to come out we ith the transmission cooler as a unit, you will be hating life putting it back in.
@DUBiEakaDUBiE2 жыл бұрын
Well, i know its my first day playing mechanic, and it would be easier pulling trans cooler with radiator as an assembly. But... how much fluid is lost when disconnecting the trans cooler, how much extra mess, and then do you have the fill port adapter to top off the trans? Then what fluid type? How do you know trans is full? How familiar are you with servicing the 5R55S? For most attempting this, i would recommend fighting the bolts that were put in the wrong way and only have to deal with the cooling system. Thanks for the input though.

I got one about 3 years ago. It's great and even though I 'push' the 1750 spec a bit (2000# of topsoil) I don't haul but a few miles and it's been fine. However the casters are crap. The bearings fell out after 3-4 uses/folding/storage cycles. Finding casters the same diameter was impossible so I got a set that were a half inch bigger. Makes it harder to tilt up onto them but far superior construction and are holding up well.
@DUBiEakaDUBiE2 жыл бұрын
I havent folded mine. Planned to keep it that way but welded together for strength. Have gotten some awesome casters from Trailer Suply before for other projects. Wheel bearings have held up fine so far, about 2000 miles so far.

What HF welder would your recommend to do this with?
@DUBiEakaDUBiE2 жыл бұрын
Anything you can afford. More money = better weld. Prep work is most important. I used Forney 130 MIG, Low speed High Heat. Worked great so far.

So far so good. Drug it around for about 1000mi so far and its been great. Suspension is pretty stiff with no load, but it is super light to pull. Cant beat it for the price. Will be checking bearings soon.

How do you get the bottoms and middle bolts in
@DUBiEakaDUBiE2 жыл бұрын
Once you get it out take nut clips off radiator and put onto side brackets so bolts will go it from motor side of radiator. Ratchet end box wrench works good to get them out. Its a PITA to get out, was designed for the entire unit to come out as one piece. Hope that helps. Go to about 3:30 in video.

If you don’t have a press what’s the best way to get a bearing in and out?
@DUBiEakaDUBiE2 жыл бұрын
I have been able to beat them out with a big hammer. Heat the spindle before smacking on it to get out and try not to damage bearing surface in spindle. Use a bearing driver to get new in, heat spindle and freeze bearing. Just make sure your straight when driving new bearing in.

How tight do you turn the bolts? There are no torque specs anywhere except for the wheel itself...some of sheet metal bends with no force at all like the two 19mm that holds the leaf springs on....also the u-bolt spring plate bends quite easily when torquing down....any advice?
@donaldwatkins14602 жыл бұрын
I’m going to get a box of 3/8 flat washers to keep from scraping up the paint and a little added strength. I haven’t found any recommendations on torque. Guess it’s going to be “two grunts” and a best guess!
