Little did I know that this was 1000 show and also my home venue and exactly why I skipped VA beach, This will forever go down as greatest tour ever, and I'm just blessed to have experienced it from coast to coast and back unforgettable and eclectic plus my fiance had decided she didn't care and eloped which put me in a whirlwind of heartache loaded with betrayal, lies, and it still hurts but this show and the other ones as well is why I'm still here. Phish, Dead, and festivals keep me grounded and I'm in dire need shows/festivals or what's the point of even living???? Outrageous and completely nailed..... I'll be at Dick'$ if I'm able...

Thank you, Trey! My 1st show of theirs was The Great Went. I missed The Clifford Ball because I was in VA. I used to have boxes of live recordings on cassette.

I can picture this like it was yesterday. It had actually been a bit of a hum-drum show, but it was a beautiful summer night. When those first few notes hit there was disbelief and then this rolling wave of euphoric applause. We were on the lawn and I recall everyone around us hugging each other, friends and strangers alike. It was an amazing moment.

This was my first show out of 12 shows between 1995 through 1998. Sadly it's been 25 years since I've seen them live. Getting old sucks.

Happy birthday Jerry, thank you. And thank you Phish for being awesome. I wish so bad I could have been at this show. (My first phish show was on the same date August 9, but 13 years later, no dead covers but we did get a very special “rocket man”)

Virginia Beach, I got shut out but was by the gates with my "Frosty Cold Beverages" getting ready for the crowds. Talking to "Burrito Tom" from Hartford I think. Everyone was blown away and then the music took us over and the lot was spinning and grooving. I have tears of joy from remembering.

First dead show 85. Was born in 68. Saw em 40+ times 85-90. Blue collar background no college for me. Started teaching and playing full time after high school. Had a savant like ability for transcribing and theory and all that. Hired by harcum college in 87 to give weekly music lessons. That area there were way more kids into the dead, and starting in 88,89...phish started showing up at the lessons, tapes. Saw phish Haverford college, my only show, in 89? 90? This very cute Bryn mawr student, a real ciao Bella, invited me. Phish were good players. Vocals were not good but I got it. The songs were way too abstract, I was also writing at this time. Phish tapped right into the dead scene and energy and WEALTH/abundance. This is why you know of them. I knew them, and now musicians far more talented. Phish is rich white kid music I don't blame em. I like that demographic. I'm one of them from a different background. Same with garcia. Over the years I grew to appreciate phish as musicians. The shit I heard about the bassist ...no comment. Terrapin is my fave tune. Maybe ever. So seeing this today I had to listen. Peace love light to all of you.

Love Mike fucking up the ending segment tremendously. Wouldn't want it any other way. Like Moe self proclaims "it's good enough for Moe" I proclaims the same for phish. They care and try; therefore it rules.

I was born in 97, reading these comments gives me chills. must have been such a special moment for deadhead turned phish fans at the time. Goes to show that the jam scene isn’t about ‘who’s better’ or ‘who was first’ and ‘who’s next’ , all that matters is people loving music and people loving people

This was my first Phish show. I had just gotten to my first duty station and life was a bit stressful and scary because I was just 19 at the time. I was there with people that I had literally just met. They treated me like family and it pushed all of the stress and fear away. I can still picture one of the girls reaction when this song started. She had tears in her eyes and a big smile on her face. It was such a happy moment. One of the best concert moments of my life even 20+ years later.

I'm both a longtime Deadhead, now 40 years and a Phish head, love the music and long jams. I love the beginning when everyone gets what they are playing, takes a little while, but they get it. It always puts a smile on my face to hear everyone go crazy. Phish does a great job on covering it, the way they should. And of course, paying respect to Jerry. Love this version. Thanx for posting this.

The day of the show someone commented that it was the third anniversary of Jerry's death the band decided right there and there to learn to play Terrapin although they had never done it before what a magnificent ethereal version I'm certain Jerry was looking down with a big ole grin on his face ☺️
