i actually use ranger armor for most of hardmode with the ranger hallowed armor set cus i value the dodge over just taking less damage and while i can see an argument for terrablade going in A tier its just too hard to get for it to be in S especially when post plantera has many of the best weapons in the game and at that point when you are so close to pillars i personally prefer to just tough it out with whatever trash im using atm until i can use pillar weapons

@@IvanBaAl961 yeah that's fair. Swords are nice for bats/keeping enemies at bay. But I still don't think that lands them above C tier, especially if they're hard to get. I'd rather just kill them with a ranged weapon before they get close to me. Or if they're in the walls, use bombs to open it up and then shoot them. Exceptions are the early game swords like blade of grass, volcano, and lights bane. Most swords in hardmode are just too much risk to get for what they're worth. Also, I'd consider ftw/gfb the hardest difficulty. Yeah they're special, but they're still the hardest difficulty. Also I've basically only played legendary hardcore for about 3 years now so my view is definitely biased. But with contact damage of legendary ftw/gfb, using swords later on is just definitely not worth it. Things WILL one shot you. Not worth it in hardcore, C tier.

@@IvanBaAl961 as I said in the video, in easier difficulties everything will in general be more viable. This especially applies for swords due to ftw contact damage. So yeah, in easier difficulties they'll be a lot more viable.

@@HardcoreElimination I completed FTW. There are not that many one shot attacks and swords are supposed to prevent it anyway (since it's more often contact damage). Mistakes kill regardless of weapon. I guess, it also depends on skill and playstyle, which weapon you can wield better.

But I'm not gonna go out of my way for them. And they're certainly not gonna save my run or make a huge impact on it. So overall, they're... fine.

In the end I decided it's a pretty chill run and the most interesting thing about it is all of the changes from normal, everything feels so weird and ancient. tactical shotgun with cloro bullets has higher dps than sniper doesnt it? havent really used either outside of pvp for a long time but use to be my go to for duke

​@@gnomewarlord9889 I think the reason tactical shotgun is considered a staple for duke is that it gets the job done while having a higher number of projectiles that can help get rid of the bubbles quickly without swapping weapons. The DPS is not better though, it's pretty bad compared to other post-plantera weapons. Defense is the big issue -- duke has high defense, 50 in phase one and 40 in phase two. That's reducing your damage by 25 or 20 with each shot. But it sucks for tactical shotgun, because that decrease is applied to all 6 bullets, for a total reduced damage of 150 or 120 per round. You can help close the gap a little bit with damage boosts and ichor, but the result is the same, sniper rifle wins every time in terms of DPS. Plus, if you're switching weapons to apply ichor, that nullifies the main advantage tactical shotgun has over sniper rifle anyway, because the task of popping the bubbles becomes relegated to the sidearm. In theory, against fishron phase 1 and 2 with some generic DPS boosts and ichor, sniper rifle has roughly 25% more DPS than the shotgun (this is the best case scenario for tactical shotgun, without ichor that figure can reach as high as 60%). It's worth noting that in phase 3, when the defense drops to zero, the performance of the two is almost identical. Let me know if you want to see these calculations in more detail. I also just ran some killtime comparisons, and the calculations are congruent with what we see empirically. Overall, it's very important to consider enemy defense when evaluating a weapon's effectiveness in my opinion. The more projectiles you have, be that a result of a high rate of fire or multiple bullets per shot, the more impactful defense will be. This is the reason that musket and undertaker can often outperform the minishark, and the reason I would consider the clockwork assault rifle a downgrade from the phoenix blaster.

I feel like in higher difficulties like legendary, it doesn't really heal enough for how much defense and how much damage enemies have. I'd rather just use a weapon with better damage and then focus on dodging.

Also it's fairly difficult to obtain in hardcore. Post plantera dungeon is extremely dangerous, so you'll want to set up a teleporter right to the chest if you want this (talking about legendary hardcore), which is just a lot of work for a mediocre weapon.

​@@HardcoreElimination Unless you're trying to tank contact damage in Legendary/GFB, Vampire Knives heals more than enough to keep you alive, you almost have to try to die when you have the equivalent of a Greater Healing Potion with a 5 seconds cooldown. If you think healing potions are useful then it's undeniable Vampire Knives are at least S tier if not the best weapon in the game. In Master Mode you can get hit by nighttime empress literally over 30 times and still be very well alive with Vampire Knives lifesteal. No other weapon in the game (besides remix Aqua Scepter) has comparable feats and impact on reducing the game's difficulty.

@@Shyguymask that's fair. Tbh tho, I mostly play multiplayer hardcore eliminations, so since there's only 1 available, we often just skip it. It kinda sucks to have a weapon that only one player can get. Not to mention that it's just significantly worse in multiplayer. The damage it does is horrible compared to other weapons of its tier, so with boss health scaling, you're basically going to be having 0 impact while just keeping yourself alive, which.... isn't really great. That's just putting much greater risk on everyone else by extending the fight while they don't have life steal. So I generally just don't ever use it. So it definitely could be a lot better than I remember, but with all the nerfs it has gotten, I generally find it's not really worth it and it's just better to go for a weapon with more damage. But yeah in Singleplayer definitely go for it

@@Shyguymask Taking 30 hits from empress is meaningless to this guy, he has never fought her 😜 My 2 cents is the vampire knives are pretty much a free upgrade in terms of risk, if you're willing to put in the grind and you remember to put a teleporter to make it safe. Sure, it's a mediocre weapon damage-wise compared to other post-plantera weapons, but when the competition is *megashark and chlorophyte shotbow*, pre-plantera weapons, the damage is genuinely good. For a quick reference, kep's dps tests have chlorophyte shotbow and vampire knives tied at 56 seconds for golem. But this is with optimized DPS setups, if your armor is tank melee anyway that skews things against ranger. I don't think you'd be putting your teammates at a disadvantage either because being able to outheal/tank a boss more effectively means being able to pin it in one spot which helps everyone aim better and kill it sooner.

@@Miguel_I_guess hahaha I understand. To be fair, this is a list geared towards hardcore terraria. Queen slime is just an optional boss, unnecessary risk for hardcore. And most players aren't gonna be running summoner, so it's basically useless for the purposes of this video. Twins on the other hand, aren't locked behind an optional boss. You HAVE to fight the twins, so it's basically a free weapon. You should have gotten a black lens at some point, so it costs essentially nothing. So even if you're not running summoner, getting just a free good summon, free extra damage, is pretty good. This list is just based on our experience and our opinions in hardcore. Doesn't mean you shouldn't run what you enjoy, or go pure summoner like you did! It's just an idea of what's kind of the 'meta' for hardcore. Going summoner is super fun, and having an army of mini blades is really cool!

I feel like I could easily do a run without hunter. Like it's good, but just not really that impactful all the time. Compares to recall potions and dangersense, no competition
