I am currently reading Daddy's Gone A-Hunting and it is a stunning book. The prose is so beautiful. It touches on a reality of womanhood and motherhood and the stifling expectation of conformity in gender roles in a subtle and excruciating way. I wish I owned it so I could annotate it but it's a library book 😅

I really love your videos because our taste usually aligns quite well so I want you to give the spring a try! I really liked the seasonal quartet. It’s not a life changing series but each book is a nice and easy read about humanity and hopefulness (to me that’s what they were at least). I think they can easily be squeezed in every season and I think you won’t regret reading them :)

I read "Say Nothing" recently. As someone who had almost no prior knowledge of Irish history nor the IRA, it was an interesting read. Despite not reading romance at all, I found "Alone With You in the Ether" quite beautiful. And last but not least, I think your gut might be right about "The Goldfinch". As a fellow "The Secret History" lover, I found "The Goldfinch" to be underwhelming. I loved the first half, but it lost me in the second (and it's really long, so...). Only one way to find out I guess 😄

I 200% recommend Kang's Human Acts, maybe even more than The Vegetarian since that one's quite disturbing & twisted and probably doesn't work for everyone, but Human Acts is a must-read, I think!

I'm a newer subscriber of yours, so it's nice to see your tbr and look forward to hearing your reviews when they come! Really like the cool, calm atmosphere in your videos, super relaxing. Many of these titles sound really interesting! I read The Three Body Problem and really enjoyed the first one, but ended up dnf'ing the rest of the series as I felt there was too much of a tone shift, but it had also been about 1.5yrs since I'd read the first one. Definitely an intimidating trilogy. If you enjoy book 1 then I would recommend not doing it like me and waiting too long to read the rest hahaha 😅

New subscriber, but we have VERY similar tastes (like...scary similar). I tried with the Goldfinch three times and just couldn't do it, finally re-homed my copy this year and I feel FREE. I also thought Say Anything was a big letdown. I listened to it, so maybe it's better when reading? But I expected a lot from it and it just didn't deliver. Still think you should give it a go, but maybe lower your expectations lol. Also you have the second and third one in the Dangarembga trilogy! The first book is Nervous Conditions. Finished the trilogy this year and really loved it! The second book was a bit of a slog, but as a whole, the trilogy is fantastic.

also re: orlando, i think you actually might enjoy this one out of her other works because it is pretty historical and references of lot of events in england/london as it time hops across different centuries. it definitely takes a lot of concentration but IMO is very worth the investment of time and is my favorite by her. also the film with tilda swinton is such a good watch after completing the book! kind of wraps everything up

I haven't read any China Miéville yet but I want to, and recently picked up a book that's said to be similar to Miéville's style. There's also the new book with Keanu Reeves, The Book of Elsewhere that looks interesting. I'm new to your channel so I don't know your reading preferences but I adamantly didn't like Alone With You in the Ether! It's not really a romance... I didn't like the characters, their flaws, or what happened. Thankfully I read a library copy, and was thrilled when I returned it 😂 I have 1Q84, Dracula and The Goldfinch on my shelf and I'm so keen to read both. I've heard good things about both. It's good to think of the Three Body Problem as like a prologue for the rest of the series. Once I realised that it made my reading experience of it this year much better and by the end it was getting good so I bought the next two books. I haven't read them yet 😅 I'd love to read Mary Oliver, there's a collection I can't remember the name of that I've heard great things about. I've got a few books by Virginia Woolf which I'm looking forward to reading: To the Lighthouse, A Room of One's Own, The Voyage Out, and The Waves. I've read Mrs Dalloway and that was a trip!😅 I've pre-ordered Playground by Richard Powers because it's on this year's Booker longlist. I started Bewilderment by him and was enjoying it but didn't get a chance to finish it before it was due back at the library.
