Meanwhile, wearing the “pretty” watch in rugged catclaw and challenging desert conditions is not nearly as “pretty” as when I wore the way less glammed up Instinct 2X.

@@vanpatterson2080 The sapphire crystal varieties have harder to damage screens and so in a way the sapphire options are durable and can withstand some rough conditions AND if I was working in an oil rig setup nonstop I think I would have kept my Instinct and either swapped watches depending on activities (work or a day out, advanced sleeping metrics etc) although that would only be my approach because I know how much more rugged and protective the plastic/polymer Instinct case is vs the painted metal case in terms of avoiding/hiding initial damage. On the same coin, the Instinct does not have a sapphire crystal and so anything that might make contact with the screen could scratch that watch lens a bit easier than if it were a more scratch resistant material like sapphire or power sapphire (proprietary Garmin glass I think). All of this being said, any of the watches you mentioned would be great in the field and can likely handle the majority of basic and even technical off grid or work use. I think the Instinct series is as rugged as it gets IF my work situation called for many brushes with actual brush or regular impacts (think even overhead kettlebell snatches with watch face accidentally not being moved to inside wrist). I’m a big sometimes clumsy person who seems to regularly bump my wrists and sometimes my watch on doorways, nearby counters and sometimes rugged narrow rock corridors if I’m tired enough, so far though the sapphire crystal on my Fēnix has stayed flawless despite the smaller bezel and so far my bezel shows zero markings on it almost as easily as my former Instinct used to get banged and surprise me with no damage done! One other thing to consider is on these newer flavors like the Fēnix and Tactix, the watch bands are super easy to swap! I spent this past summer swimming regularly and it was nice to be able to swap bands both to deep clean the watch body and also to have one “chlorine and other fluids” band and another basic “always clean” band… This may have added confusion to the decision you’re making BUT I absolutely would go with an Instinct first and foremost if I was mostly hiking/climbing remote rugged areas or working inside a rig power washing it and doing other intense labor, but still… Despite my preferences the Fēnix still would have the more durable glass AND I bet it would continue to surprise me just as it has so far against rugged catclaw and other scraping vegetation and rock surfaces! Far as the heat, for both watches they radiate well when left on our wrist in those conditions but the Instinct might have a slight edge when it comes to overall temperatures IF you go with an OLED version because temp does factor into battery life and OLED will use way more battery life on a daily basis during some extremes (cold included) which may lead to some variance in the long run if you can’t get to a charger every so often. For most of us, charging won’t be too much of a problem overall. For me, neither the Instinct 2, 2X or the Fēnix showed any heat related difference and for all of these (all have been solar editions for me) I’ve literally chosen all day hiking routes that kept my watch facing the sun for maximum durations and I’ve had fun using the “solar meter” (lux, I think?) to try and actively face my watch towards the sun often enough to enhance the battery’s lifespan! I have never just taken any of these devices off to let them sit facing the sun though, without being on my wrist I feel like these electronic devices like any other device might get a bit damaged by extreme heat in a place like West Texas where temps in the shade can be over 115 or greater! Tough call but all the watches you mentioned are pretty tough devices! Good luck with your selection! Have a great weekend! :)

@SpiritualDevil I appriciate it. I loved my old instinct. But recently started rucking where I moved to in AR. LOTS of public and trail lands. Lots lof long range shots too. So really want the tactix for the AB and topo. Wish they had an option to customize with gorilla glass or such and certain features. Basically for the job I'd love a mic and speaker so I could at least hear a message or such. Not necessarily to talk into. But would be nice. The topo, GPS, and AB is my niche for personal. Though on occasion the job calls for predator controll which AB can be handy for too. Solar. Good glass. Touch screen. AB, topo, GPS, and mic/speaker..... If be a happy fella. I'm really hoping the tactix 8 coming out does that like the Fenix 8 (from what I've seen about it thus far) but am dreading the price the tactix 8 is gonna hit. Especially with applied ballistics. But... If it will actually hold up... It's worth the money. Lol I won't trade up for a while. Heck I'm still rocking a cat s61 flir phone that's prob 6 years old now or more lol cause it simply works and I haven't found a way to destroy it yet. Submerged in a tank of diesel for a week. Dawn and the kitchen sink.... Can't even tell it was wet lol

The Enduro 3 looks awesome! It has just the right detailing to set it apart and it seems to have every overall feature including the ECG sensors that I rarely but *sometimes* use for my own data gathering reasons! What a great deal! The Tactix is nice like you already know but as you said, the price difference seems unreasonable basically for the tactical options most civilians won't use AND a green vs. red light option! In hindsight although both the Instinct 2X and Enduro 3 both have awesome battery life (mine being the Fenix my case, also awesome battery life) every so often I come across a situation where I do miss having a backup when I have an unplanned activity (last second long distance hike, etc) and I don't have a full charge OR more realistically when I want to wear a watch AND do some more rugged outdoor type work... The Instinct 2X and the Enduro (and Fenix) are two way different watches in terms of "protective bezels" as you know. IF I had it all to do over again, I'd still have my Instinct 2X and that's what I'd do some of my off grid camping/backyard gardening/working with power tools type activities with while using the Fenix/Enduro type watch for pretty much everything else including the advanced sleep data that the Enduro will provide. Enjoy the upgraded data and if you do keep the 2X know that you will have two very well outfitted timepieces with very accurate data AND you'll basically be able to switch between "G Shock" style attire and "Premium Style" type devices while definitely enjoying both for their own amazing qualities! In the "long run" :) I am very satisfied having just the one device, but IF you are like me not wanting to scuff up nice items when doing some rough and tumble outdoor activities OR if you like the green torch in the 2X Tactical, you may in fact want to keep both! I wish I did! Plus later you can make your own side by side comparison and help others like us try and work through this type of decision in some cases! @@SpiritualDevil Thanks for the awesome comprehensive reply. You've picked up on a few things that I also think of, because I'm a one for small details. I prefer the Red flashlight, rather than Green. When I got the Instinct, I didn't realise it was Green. A small thing in the overall scheme, but I noticed it. Yes the Instinct has amazing battery life and there's probably not much difference between the Instinct and the Enduro. One other thing is that I do a lot of Ocean swimming and although I have never had any issue, I might be worried about losing a more expensive watch in the surf. Mind you, with the amazing discount I got, the Enduro was less than 50% more expensive. One of my mates did lose a Feniz 6 in the ocean once, but that's the only case I have heard of. We all take our Wedding rings off before the swims too. Once gone in the sea, it's gone forever. A watch, I might be able to dive down to get, but not a ring. The deepest water might be about 20 ft, so I'd definitely have a few goes at finding a watch if it ever did come off. I used to freedive too, so dives down are easy. But...to be honest, with a new watch, I'd want to wear it all the time. I have a mate in the gym who just bought a new Garmin. I met him last night and asked him where his watch was, because he was wearing his really old Casio. He said, Oh I didn't want it to get knocked in the gym. I thought that totally defeated the object of buying a new watch. I understand people having a tracker/smart watch and then a very dressy analogue for going out, but the gym??? He's a Doctor too and earns enough. Oh well. I'm expecting my watch to be available to pick up on Monday, so i'm really looking forward to it. It had to get delivered from another store, so it's a delayed Christmas gift to myself :)

@@Francesco-sw5cm The TracBack feature is on many of the Garmin GPS wrist devices, not just the Instinct Tactical line. It is a feature I’ve used a few times when I really go far off into places that are not easy to navigate by landmarks and each time I’ve been reminded of how one of my closest relatives recently got lost and had to call (SOS only signal on their phone) for help finding their way back to civilization. I’d warned this relative before about the guide they’d been relying on. For me, I like having the ability to TracBack even if I have an experienced guide! Never can tell what might happen out in the middle of nowhere with no landmarks in sight! :)

The Instinct 2X reminds me a lot of my old school Timex with Indiglo. The numbers are always easy to read (dark or light, esp with the "glow" background when needed) AND It just looks like a plain watch. I don't know that it has a bigger dial, but it is more rugged AND I hear rumors that an Instinct 3 is coming out. TBD. I still enjoy the Fenix (non oled) and between the two, the Fenix is amazing like the Instinct BUT it seems easier to scratch. When you try 'em (maybe at an REI or similar store) you'll know what I mean!

@@VolkerHelmich Also just as a heads up, the Instinct 2S (I think that’s the name of the smaller version) does NOT have the accuracy of the 2X. Just a heads up in case the smaller version comes into your picture for any reason. We had a 2X and a 2S in our household but the smaller one started recording strange results like .25 miles total distance for 1 mile plus hikes… Although the route looked normal on the phone app screen, the distance was WAY off… We communicated with Garmin and though the smaller Instinct was accurate for a year and a half, they claimed that the smaller version had less sensors and so was never accurate. I feel they misrepresented this aspect but either way, that’s why we looked to change devices to begin with. The only thing the Fēnix had that I appreciate behind the current instinct is the ECG capability. Even then though, I don’t use that feature too often. It was nice to use it and verify some things (like when my heart was doing funny things when I was in worse health) but overall if we didn’t change devices across the board here, I’d still have the 2X, but for sure the tactical version for the green flashlight capability…

Yeah, there is no way I'm complaining about how people treated me, really. I was raised how I was needed to be raised if you account for "the universe" and "karma" and all that. In contrast, however, I AM observing out loud in public that my father's thieving relatives continue to reach out to me actively to try and "bridge a connection" one on one when they know they cannot speak in a group of other "grown people"... Liars often hide behind disguises and the shadows of anonymity. With that in mind, the Truth is that I am actively being contacted by grown people who are trying to silence me from speaking about how they stole property from an elderly man who was using methamphetamines. Since the family took my father from rehab and since rehab AND myself were not made aware of where my dad was for over a month as they stole his property AND since the people who stole the property continue to reach out to me to try and get me to be quiet about it, I continue to explain more and more with additional video documentation in ways that can only lead to... His sister called and left me a voicemail just a week before telling me she didn’t feel bad about anything… But she refuses to talk with me with even just her husband present. Bullies often can only speak “one on one” and with guarantee of unaccountability… In other words, no recordings, no speakerphone, no “witnesses”, 100% bullying likely. To me, I *almost* feel crazy because nobody else seems to be able to relate… And then some say that I am offensive… Or worse… All for telling my truth in this place called KZbin. @@SpiritualDevil The way we communicate with each other is really important, sometimes it's even more important than what we're saying. I'm sure that you speak truthfully and express valid points, but the way you express yourself does not seem so conciliatory. Accusatory and condemning words that are repeated incessantly may turn people off from wanting to have the type of dialogue that you seek. If your true objective is reconciliation then you need to take a hard look at the things that might be preventing that from happening, including the things that you are in control of that may help you reach that objective. I can honestly say that if I were in their shoes, and being 💯 wrong with my deeds, I would not be very warm to the idea of having a forum with you just based on your way of speaking. I just think you need to soften your style, but without compromising what your feelings and message are to them.

I don’t mean this egocentrically, I mean that if I had a son, I assure you that I would be celebrating life with him for almost whatever reason I was granted. Love is love. To not be wanted by one’s own father OR the rest of the family? Maybe because I am only seen as “an extension” of destruction? On my channel I talk about a lot of experiences that I’ve had and they can sound… Unlikely… But watch enough of my “in the field” videos and you might see that I have unusual scenarios that you just might or might not be able to relate to! In the “long run” of it all, whether you yourself begin to journal or vlog or anything, you might notice some parallels between the power of the written word and also the power of public opinion. For me? I know that nobody wants to see something or someone struggling. Maybe I'll embrace the option and start looking into Chat GPT or whatever the AI systems are called lately. Meanwhile everything as far as options takes from the perspective of documenting and showing these situations as broadly as possible without other people sharing or contributing towards the success of said insights. @@RobHale81 I am feeling humbled and honored! I made my fastest half marathon time and then slowed down quite a bit on the long hills BUT I never felt like my legs would quit! I am feeling sore today but not all that torn up. Usually I really feel it two days later but I’m taking a preventative soak to hopefully take care of that in advance! I regularly run Cathedral Rock trails here in SA and I was pleasantly surprised at how well this area prepared me! Also, could we have had the weather and temps be any more amazing? I hope you’re having a super fast recovery and that all went as expected! Have you ever run in some place like Big Bend National Park? That’s where I spent my prior week leading up to yesterday!

@@VolkerHelmich I saw your question the other day but I was out of town and on the move, sorry for the delay! It does sound very intriguing to be in a position to discuss and have positive influence over these scenarios and so yes I think I’d be very interested in municipal office! I only don’t know how to begin said journey at the moment. My marathon attempt turned out to be a marathon success! I was slower than an elite runner and I walked and ran my distance BUT I felt strong at the finish AND I am not overly sore today (the day after) and I’m somewhat impressed at that! I feel like if I attempt a marathon again I will be much faster without any toe pain and with another year’s improvements to my overall health, though only time will tell. I am so lucky it was colder yesterday (vs the sunny 80’s we’ll have today) since I am certain the cooler temps played into how long I went without ever touching “zone 5” for my heart rate during yesterday’s hours long effort! We got to run “on base” through Fort Sam and the soldiers cheering us on really had me smiling for several miles since one soldier in particular singled me out when I recognized his “who’s gonna carry the boats?” encouragements! He saw that I knew what he was saying and he pointed at me and said emphatically “They don’t know you, son!” I laughed and kept smiling for almost three full miles like a crazy person. I could definitely have used a better night’s sleep the night before and maybe some orange wedges in the last miles (none were left for slow people like me) BUT some kind residents were also passing out pickle slices and additional water along the way. I feel like there were a lot of people from the city helping us all out. I’d love to be able to return the favor for sure!

That is AWESOME! I would never expect to find one of these having been trashed. I even asked the vendor to sell me some scrap coolers if they had any since I wanted to "cut out the bottom" and make a raised garden bed from one of these (lid-less) so that the GITD feature might attract pollinators at night to further tend to whatever ended up growing. Either way, that is awesome! I guess the wheels were damaged or are not very functional? The smaller size I have does not have wheels so I have no experience with those. @@SpiritualDevil i found an orange one, its really faded but i think it looks better this way, the top is yellow now but the insides and bottom are still orange. it smelled pretty bad when i found it but nothing a few days of bleach/water and sloshing around in the bed of my truck couldnt fix. the wheels are just old and dry rotted. i emailed gnarwhal and they said they still have all the parts in stock that i would need to replace and suggested i get some new latches as well for spare parts.

@@the84jeepcj77 That color is pretty awesome! It was not in stock when I had ordered mine. With regard to the latches, I have been wondering about how hard or easy it would be to replace those, I don't like them as much as the YETI latches. Gnarwhal's latches are very stretchy and pliable (i.e. they don't hold the lid down as securely as they could) and I sometimes think about upgrading those.

I really had not although lately I wonder if that is my only option if I am to take on some of these situations in a "timely" manner. The start up seems minimal, attitude and signatures most likely! Plus whatever employment hurdles are set in place for said position(s).

@SpiritualDevil I think that if you can find a position or opportunity that affords you the chance to not only offer ideas, but also to implement the required actions, then the ballgame changes. Ideally you'd have the opportunity to organize a team, so that the scale of what you're trying to implement would increase tremendously.

@@VolkerHelmich I'll give this some serious consideration! I know what you are saying is true of course... I also probably come across as a bit skeptical with regard to accomplishing things "in the world today" BUT nothing at all changes if nobody tries! I'd love to give this a try! I'm also trying to get ahead of the curve here pre-loading stuff well into next year. While things "here" will be on auto pilot for a bit, I intend to make some serious progress towards the voiced causes and your route is definitely at the top of my list! To complete a marathon's distance was very do-able for me, but to improve my time for "the next time" will be the aftermath of shedding a few more unhealthy situations. Are you asking about the track back feature? If so, yes! This is available on the solar version. It is a very useful feature if you go "off trail" in remote areas where cross country and/or zone camping are permitted.
