Hey buddy! Love that hockey season is back! Of course this has hit CBJ so hard. When you're in the building it's so different, almost somber. It's hard seeing Monahan on the ice. It also brings back memories of Kivi. I love your videos. You are so knowledgeable! I'm going to catch up on your other preseason videos & of course watch them all season! Hope everything is good with you 😊 ❤

As a Sens fan sadly, no, I don’t think they did enough. I know there is a lot of hype. 1 they have not proved it 2 there defense was not good at all even on a 2-1 loss to Buffalo being outshot huge. This is not a recipe for success.

Seider's numbers last year are extremely deceptive. He was almost never deployed in the offensive zone all season long and was given the hardest defensive assignments in the league by a mile. Nobody is even near to close. Despite that, the dude still put up 40+ points and over 200+ hits and blocked shots. He also had 9 goals. Nobody is "hoping" he turns into a number 1 defenseman. He already is at 23 years old (not even prime). Also, Seider is a two-way defenseman (not an offensive defenseman as you stated) deployed as a defensive defenseman with very little help (his partners are not 1st pairing quality). He currently is, by far, the best defenseman on the wings and is one of the top 20 defensemen in the league. Furthermore, Seider at 8.5milx7yrs is VERY good value. His market comparable (and projections) were above 9x8. As the years pass and the salary cap increases, the % of cap is going to be very team friendly. There was no discussion of Raymond...so I have no idea what your problem there is. His contract, in general, is also seen as a team-friendly deal. The Wings have a projected 19 million in cap space for the next off-season (25-26) with no major rfa/ufa players to sign. So they are fine when it comes to the cap. TL;DR Your discussion showed a lack of nuance understanding of the analytics behind Seider's numbers. Showed little knowledge of the current professional opinions of Seider's current, much less projected, talent. This lack of understanding lead to very wrong conclusions regarding the value of Seider's contract. For Seider's contract to be viewed as poor, his play has to severely regress over the next several seasons. Finally, if you are going to put Raymond in the title, it would benefit you to actually discuss him in a meaningful way. Why is his contract bad? Sorry, but I cannot like or subscribe if this is the level of content you are going to bring.
@HockeyBrigade
@HockeyBrigade 2 күн бұрын
I don’t think the Raymond contract is bad, I think I said it in the video. As for Seider he is playing a hard role at a young age. I get that he’s got a lot of potential however, I do think it’s just a lot of these long term deals that bother me. I think both of these deals could be good for the team, but the length is what bothers me more for Seider. I get that it locks him up for years, but I’d be happier with a four year deal. The team in general has potential, but we still have to see. I’m glad you gave your opinion though, because I genuinely want to hear what people have to say. And like I always say, I want players to prove me wrong. Best of luck to the Wings this year 👍.
@dannik9932
@dannik9932 2 күн бұрын
@@HockeyBrigade This will be a long post. Rebuttal: The term is what makes these deals good. A 7+ year deal buys up some prime ufa years. A four year deal would mean you have to pay MUCH more in 4 years as the player enters their prime. It is not cost-effective for higher end talent. It would be especially bad when 3-4 years from now is the time frame you would also have to be paying upcoming players like Edvinsson, Danielson, Kasper, Cossa, ASP, or MBN (provided they pan out as projected). If even one of them becomes a star player you are building future cap trouble for yourself, especially if you are going to hand out another short-term contract. In that situation, you now have 3 or more star players (at least 2 ufas) to pay at the same time. The more times you have to make a contract, the more expensive they become. I agree that you don't pay big money for potential only though. However, Seider isn't just potential. Again, he is ranked top 20 in the league by many professionals. He is CURRENTLY worth the contract he got (meaning he isn't even being paid up to his potential). As for Raymond, your words were "I'm not as bother by (his contract)." That is not a positive statement. It means you are bothered by it, just not as much as Seider's. Seeing as how the rest of the video is justification for why you think Seider's contract is so bad, one can only assume that, by comparison, Raymond also received a bad contract. However, Raymond is making what his skills/stats say is market value currently. As the cap rises, this contract gets better. The only way this contract goes sour is if Raymond regresses. I agree that Yzerman has some stinkers on the books, but most of them are short-term. The worst contracts are Husso, Copp, and Holl. Both Husso and Copp were seen as good signings when made. Neither has lived up to expectations (Husso due to injury affecting play (hopefully the reason) and Copp due to play). Holl was a gamble that failed, but is only a 3-year deal. Chiarot isn't bad for his cap (ufa is always expensive), the problem is he currently has to play higher than he should. Yes, all of them are problems, but will be gone in the short-term and won't affect the Wings predicted competitive window. The wings only have 3 long-term contracts (6+ years): Larkin, Raymond, Seider. Yzerman doesn't give term that much. In addition, the highest paid player is 8.75mil. There is a lot of cap room to add future talent. Recommendations: If you are truly interested in improving your content (which your response seems to indicate), then you should start these conversations by acknowledging/discussing professional opinions and the general consensus regarding the topics (in this case the Raymond and Seider contracts). Then you can explain why you think those opinions are correct or not. Doing the above not only helps you build credibility as a knowledgeable source, it also improves the depth and breadth of your analysis. It also adds more weight or respect to your opinions.
@HockeyBrigade

I definitely am open to criticism, so I think it’s fair to question why I wanted the shorter deals. My mindset is typically that the prospects, even the top ones aren’t usually going to be as good as advertised. And I’m under the assumption whoever is the GM is going to pay other people too much money before those new deals are even signed. Seider’s defensive numbers didn’t rank highly especially at 5v5, or on the PK. Now I will say he definitely doesn’t get a lot of O-zone time, but his shots weren’t especially dangerous anyway. Now I think him only being 23, is good and you lock him up for that prime. But, I just don’t like long deals in general, with injuries being a big concern too. I know I’m too conservative with deals, but I just hate seeing teams possibly get stuck in the future.

This coming season, the Sharks will finish last in the Pacific Division with a record of 6-72-4 and miss the playoffs in their final season in San Jose. On April 14, 2025, San Jose Sports & Entertainment Enterprises will sell the Sharks to a Houston-based group headed by Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta for $1.25 billion, including a relocation fee of $195 million to relocate the Sharks to Houston if the Sharks fail to extend their lease agreement with the city of San Jose and their current home venue, SAP Center at San Jose and on April 17, 2025, the NHL Board of Governors will approve both the sale and relocation of the Sharks to Houston in a unanimous vote, so after 33 years in the Bay Area (excluding the 2004-05 NHL season that was wiped out by the lockout), the Sharks will relocate to Houston to become the Outlaws and play at Toyota Center in the 2025-26 NHL season, so the Outlaws and the Stars will begin the Lone Star State rivalry.

I’m cautiously optimistic about Lindy returning, iconic is right - those were some good days in Buffalo (though not as good as Hasek era obvs…. *sighs in highschool nostalgia* Since culture and heart are a huge part of what’s been off about Buffalo these last years Lindy actually could be a huge way for this team to turn things around. We love hockey here, it’s just been a rough ride for a while lol. I’ve been singing Luukkonen’s praises since the beginning and was obvs thrilled by that second half performance in ‘24, what he went through in 2019 w those hip surgeries showed massive heart and clearly paid off. I’m really hopeful for his future in a way I haven’t been in a while w goalies in Buffalo. In fact I just ordered his jersey, and I haven’t bought a Sabres jersey in like… 10 years 💁🏼‍♀️ Of course he needs some scoring in front of him and the blue line, which really doesn’t look too bad 🤔 I’ll be at the oct 12 game vs Florida, expectations are moderate lol but looking forward to seeing what they can do this year.

Personally, I've grown weary of the NBA's current culture, where individual stardom often overshadows team play. Utah fans are known for their unwavering support, whether their teams win or lose. as a caps fan since the 70s ,they have to be better this year, i love they made playoffs but the grind on them and the fans was tough, could we win more that two games going away? , caps always make winning dramatic even when they won the cup trailed two games to nothing vs columbus before going with holtby in net, caps trailed in every series so caps fans used to winning the hard way but last year was brutal. pld has got to work out, other trades and signing were golden, i love roy and chicherun signings and mangepane is a perfect fit imo, with new jersey a lock to make playoffs or win metro that leaves the islanders or caps to miss the playoffs next year, if ottwa,det,buff get going both wildcards will be replaced from last year. its a tough division when caralina may get knocked out next year, cant wait til it starts, also congrats to florida, they deserved it ,presidents trophy followed by back to back stanley cup appearances. good video i enjoyed listenening to your opinion.

There is no debate on this. I don’t care that Bedard scored the most goals. Look at his +/- for every goal he scored the opposite team scored umpteen goals while he was on the ice. Brock Faber was top 5 in for defenseman in minutes played, was a -1 at the end of the season while playing every penalty kill, and he tied Bedard in assists as a defenseman. AND he played all 82 games because he’s smart enough to keep his head up. Go look at every season in the history of the NHL and count how many rookie defenseman achieved all this at Brocks age. Bedard will probably win because the votes are cast by writers, most of whom have played a single game of hockey.

Personally I don’t have skin in the game to bother me if he does. I truly don’t know how everything’s taken into context, but Bedard didn’t get a lot of talent to play with. That said, Faber’s playing 25 minutes a night and having the numbers he did is impressive too.

The biggest issue with Bedard is that if he continues to play with head down, he will be retired in 3 years due to concussions.
