"In eyes not yet created, on tongues that are not born" god this line is just so beautiful and deep, Bastille really is a genius!

it's 2024, i still listen to look after you by the fray, it's somehow the song i used to listen to back when i was starting to develop a crush on my current husband almost 4 years ago. i suddenly remember that this cover was how i was introduced to this song, i have forgotten how i used to listen to this cover all the time when i was 12, i was obsessed with 1D & louis tomlinson ! now i'm 23, all grown up and is now a mother with a baby in her tummy ❤

Poet was apart of the itunes album my dad bought me in 2014 (crazy coincidence, as it was july 14 2014, which is bastille day haha), and my favourite song was of course pompeii, so i asked my dad to buy me the song, so on my account he gifted me a 5 track album, as all i was obsessed with was pompeii, so thats all i wanted. Lo and behold, it had pompeii along with 3 other remixes of the song. But then there was this other song, now this wasnt called pompeii, and i remember thinking hmm "this must be a very weird remix of it as it sounds nothing alike" (leave me alone i was 9, i wasnt a particularly bright critical thinker alright 😭), but after listening to it a few times, i fell in love with the words, and it became my favourite song. That caused me to actively seek out more bastille songs, and i of course became a huge fan which i am to this day. I was even lucky enough to attend the leeds millennium square bad blood x concert which was amazing, as it was my first ever concert, and it was the 10 year anniversary of the first bastille album i had listened to. So being able to actually hear those songs live by the band was something i never thought would be possible as i had begged my parents to let me go to the original tour, though they didnt allow me as i was too young. And to think all this happened because of a sneakily placed unexpected song on an album that i had just bought for their most popular song.

I'm sick of Bastille reading my mind and turning my thoughts and feelings into songs, please stop! 😂No seriously, though, this is beautiful, I swear that Bastille has no bad songs and every single one manages to strike a chord with me. It's spooky. This song specifically strikes a nerve because I'm terrified of winding up alone, dying alone with no friends or family to mourn me is my greatest fear. All I want is "someone I can cling to", a warm body to sleep beside at night. Somebody to love and be loved by in return. Sometimes, though, it feels like I will never find that person. The person I will want to spend the rest of my life with. I don't believe in soulmates or "the one", I'm not naive, but I do believe in falling in love and meeting somebody with whom you are compatible and marrying them (or cohabitating, if that's more your thing). I know not everyone wants or needs to be in a relationship, I know that I shouldn't rely on others to "complete" me but it's hard not to feel lonely at times and feel like there is something missing. At the same time, I have a hard time letting others in and I'm afraid of intimacy. I was abused as a child and I think that is partially why I have trouble trusting and being vulnerable with others. But at the same time, I still want to find someone that I can trust and be vulnerable with, if that makes any sense. To me that is what this song is about. It's about longing for love but also keeping your distance and pushing others away because "your mother warned of strangers and the danger they may bring".
