Here is one big victory for Stanford residents and fellows: Press Release online from Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR/SEIU): “Stanford Resident Physicians Reach Historic Tentative Agreement after Thirteen Months of Bargaining” - “After thirteen months of contentious negotiations, resident physicians and fellows at Stanford Health Care reached a groundbreaking tentative agreement. This historic deal … includes a 21% increase in compensation, preservation of essential departmental benefits, a $50,000 annual stipend for a resident wellness committee, a $20,000 fertility benefit package, a retirement plan with a 2% contribution and 2% match, retention of essential departmental benefits, a new grievance and arbitration process, and crucially, a new fatigue mitigation policy providing all housestaff access to free rideshare services home after working a long shift. Significantly, under the terms of the new contract, the 2025 cohort of first-year resident physicians at Stanford will become the first interns in the country to earn six-figures.”

Also, it looks like residents and fellows are engaged more and more in unionization efforts and see some results. Could you reach out to some of them and have some video and podcast interviews?

Hello Kim and Dr. Wilbur: could you have some interviews with residents and fellows? The burnout and dropout rates for residents are quite high, and they have even more needs to stand up and speak out.

AGREE that nothing is unsurmountable (great title!) - helping a good doc who has been to prison get his license back. He is a good guy who fell into an insurance scam through no fault of his own. His board even said he could be "rehabilitated." So YES! You CAN fully control your destiny - even after what seems to be insurmountable.

PHPs should stop forcing docs with no substance use issues into AA, 5-year contracts with frequent urine drugs tests,. A letter I just got from a doc who lost his license for missing urine toxicology tests he did not need. He wrote this to the FSPHP President and asks that I publish it - which I will do soon (a few quotes): " . . . you demanded I surrender my license was because I failed to call in for urine testing four or five times. Urine testing. I was being monitored for drugs and alcohol. I’ve never had a drug or alcohol-related problem. I had two comprehensive in-patient evaluations from two PHP-preferred facilities: Menninger and Pine Grove. Both opined I had no evidence of drug or alcohol-related issues. And they were right! Why was I then monitored for drug and alcohol-related issues? Why require expert evaluation if you ignore the experts' findings? Why was I required to take random urine tests? I believe you told me it was "standard practice" in your “health” program for everybody. Why? As a physician do give your patients the same treatment no matter their health problem? I was strictly compliant with your requirement to abstain from alcohol. I wasn't dodging urine testing, although I did resent it. My mind was on other things: my patients and my work. Is urine testing really part of a program for physician's health? Or is it just CYA for the licensing board? I think it's the latter. What a waste of time and money! I was required to attend AA and NA meetings! Yet another waste of time and completely irrelevant for me. . . ." (I think you get the essence of the problem here) --- I am very happy that Dr. Courtney McKeown had a good experience and that is more likely when you actually have the problem for which the PHPs were originally created,

Watching now. Good discussion. The right program with compassionate help can certainly be useful for substance use (for which PHPs were originally created).

Thank you Dr Olson for pointing out the pressures faced by female physicians. I can see that with some of my female doctors- there is an almost hands off approach emotionally. Almost a push away from their female energy side. As humans regardless of how we identify, we still have male and female in us. As humans we can all reach out with our maternal energy side to help one another. ❤

Very moving story, so important to advocate for physicians, because patients and their doctors are united as one. But what struck me about this video, is that when you see Kim's face, the light is there.

Hi, Your video has no views, no one is watching your video. Your video quality is very good but still not reaching the target audience. People with poor video quality have more views and subscribers than you. You need to solve your problem.
