Thanks a bunch! Good loopers aren't easy to come by, especially free or cheap ones. This one looks great, and does tape sound, too, which is awesomeness since I was born in 89, and I used to hear tapes, and crumble up paper to put in the holes to record over some of them via the radio. lol :3 Nice pad, too. Kontrol makes good stuff. I have 8 programs on my Akai MPC MK3 Mini, so I can set the 8 endless knobs for 64 knobs. Lol. No need for the controller, but, I have to count how many knobs, and switch programs. Lol. My computer is a touch screen, so I can manage that way, too. Shalom. :3

Hit the NRPNs to really get weird. I find distortions, (up to 2) layers of reverbs, or mixing the oscillations of the mod. LFO with those of the chorus/tremolo effects are enough to remove its "dreadful midi music" timbralities. I think only the Circuit Tracks comes near in portability and sound design depth, then maybe the organelle or OP1. As much as I don't mind the LED pad fad, I wonder what is keeping gear designers from giving us a three-octave, knobby groovebox with a minimalistic display. We all could do with sumthin like that, I figger?

I have a Qy70 and have to say that this is not a rptouch on the older qy series of which i have two. The only problem with the older sequencer is it took midi via a 3.5 inch floppy drive witch sadly was a cheap version of the floppy drive and has a habbit of packing up, which has happened with both of mine. You can pug stuff in via playing tbe midi to memory but this restricts to ten channels very much dependent of the amount of available memory. For the life ipof me i cannot understand why Yamaha have such a dim view of this older model which to my mind is gead and shoulders about others. Anyone who knows how to replace this with an up to date floppy drive could make themselves a fortune as tgere are hundreds of people with the same problem. The miblie vertion is nothing like the older version which really is very well build other than the floppy drive. Would be grateful for anyone who has one of the older sequencers and has overcome the problem. The major problem being the old floopy drive is conneted via a ribbon cable. If someone have over come this would be very interested to know how with a vidio showing how. This would not detract from the money to be made by offering the service of correcting the problem.

@@warblur you’re definitely looking towards a 505. The 404sx/a’s looping functionalities are hardly considered a feature. I’d never rely on a 404 for live looping. The 404mkII has live looping, but nothing’s as instantaneous as a 505

"Ambient muddled mess". I was relieved to hear you say this. When I'm trying to get an idea of what a device sounds like, and what it can do, I find myself having to sit through so much of this 'mud' on KZbin. I wish i knew why it ('ambient' mud ) has spread like Covid with KZbinrs. By no means am i saying that the ambient genre, in general, is mud; bur rather, that there's just so many bad "musicians" doing it on YT -or decent musicians making bad ambient. It's really a great disservice to the medium, as well as to all the 'ambient' subgenres out there.
@yukesmusic2 ай бұрын
@@vvcv__00 one of the objectively funniest things I’ve ever witnessed in my career as a musician was an associate’s ambient synth jam getting copyright-struck, due to being supposedly indistinguishable from a lot of other Microcosm/Mood/OP-1 jams previously uploaded to the distributors. There’s a singular instance where ambient music as we know it was invented: Brian Eno, sitting up in a hospital bed, listening to a vinyl of classical music played too quietly to distinguish anything but a faint melody. Just as easily focused on as it is ignored. While it’s inarguably fun to make this sort of mud (there’s the answer to your question,) I think it’s important that your ambient sound is focused, clear, and with purpose.
@vvcv__00Ай бұрын
@@yukesmusic That's crazy man, and too funny (the first paragraph). Perhaps a bit sad too. Thanks for that bit of music history (the Eno bit), very interesting. Out of curiosity, while listening to Bach's violin's Partitas/Sonatas (my favorite piece of music -single-handedly) at very low volumes the other day, I 'think' i was able to 'get' the idea Eno experienced. It was a very intriguing/creative, and inspirational exercise, simply by turning the volume down for a few minutes. Like taking entire chapters out of a book where you can interpret, then place in your own ideas as to what happened within the story. Now, reading what i just wrote, i realize that Eno's experience is similar to what the abstract visual art movement is about. Opposed to non-representational art -which many incorrectly call 'abstract'. I heard an 'abstraction' to what i have heard to that work of Bach's.
