I'm just curious if you noticed that the beat in Mary Boone was from a 90's song called Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand by Primitive Radio Gods? I love when bands sample or mimic the songs of their youth. This album is actually my favorite of VW. I think lyrically it's their most mature and thought provoking albums. I always thought they were a little amateurish in the past, but enjoyed their instrumentation and production. But this album is literal perfection.

This is their weakest offering for me. Very few hooks or memorable moments. I was expecting the blues rock catchiness of Boogieman Sam or This Thing but it just didn't deliver.

It's pretty good. A lot of these songs are kinda monochromatic. Billy's vocals are kinda samey and without much range from track to track. The songs with big hooks are great, but a lot of them seem a bit undercooked to me. Real drums from Jimmy are a plus. A big nit pick for me (for most of their recent songs) is that the titles aren't obvious from the lyrics. Why not name these songs after the repeated chorus lines? Billy gets a little pretentious instead.

David Comes to Life is still my favorite Fucked Up album/probably among my favorite punk albums but honestly Dose Your Dreams is pretty underappreciated. Took some time to grow on me but I think there's a lot of really great tracks on there that go unloved, so it's neat to see it top a ranking list. Super solid rankings overall!

So I actually happened to see Bambara live before this album came out when I went to see Daughters. I thought they put on a good show but I wasn’t familiar with their work at that point. Just recently I remembered they existed and listened through this album and it instantly became my new obsession. Honestly, the bass lines alone were enough to sell me but the narrative, the lyrics, the style all really pulled me in. Wild to me that Sweat is your least favorite track. I get it from a purely sonic perspective, but it’s just lyrically the song that hits the best for me personally. It’s a little repetitive I guess, but I like the simple yet brutal musings on death itself. The final line has been getting me through grief as of late in the wake of a recent family loss. It’s such a brutal yet uplifting track, it’s hopeful in a way that I need. It’s beautiful really. Really funny that you called Serafina a “boy meets girl” story. It’s literally about lesbians lmao. Obviously this is meant to be a short review and not necessarily an in-depth analysis but I love the narrative that’s being weaved. A vignette of stories that coalesce and weave in and out of each other, the way Death the character is presented, the underlying love and hope in this weird gothic dark series of stories. Anyway, idk if you’re even still active, there’s just no one on KZbin or really anywhere talking about this album so I wanted to shout my thoughts into the void. Thanks for making this review.

I love this song. The last several singles released IMHO were not very good but this one speaks to me and I love the instrumentals. I do wish they had given it more lyrical consideration. I feel it was a bit uninspired to leave half of the song repeating the same line over and over. However, I think this may be may favorite song if they play it live.

Hey man if you don't feel it you don't feel it. I feel as if the killers only really needed excuses for wonderful wonderful and since then have just redefined themselves. Bright Lights is just a song about hope. Referencing the old adage of leaving lights on to help find your way home, back when electricity and cars didn't exist. Living in AZ I can relate to driving home on a long desert road, thinking about the toils and hardships I have or am experiencing.

It's not good. ITM was not good. Their best song since WW is We Did It In the Name of Love, and it wasn't even an official single. Some of us still hold them to a higher standard. They can do much better.

We did it in the name of love is so weak imo. I couldn't tell you anything about that song. I respect your opinion though 100% but I love a good number of ITM. Dying Breed, caution and fire in bone especially.

@@armandogranado1955 ITM had a couple of highlights, namely DB and FIB, but the rest were particularly weak. Dave was really missed on that album. I like ITNOL because it has great bass. lyrics, synth, and melody. It's a moodier, darker song instead of the bubblegum rock like BL.

Their most poetic album is Sam’s Town. That was the peak of their songwriting. The lyrics on that album are unpredictable. Day And Age is also great for lyrics. After that their lyrics became cliche. Still love their new stuff as I’m a fan of that 80s Dire Straits vibe, but I listen to that 80s stuff in a corny way as you stated

You seem to be missing a major chunk of context. This is a portrait of grief. What you call inconsistent, I would call impressionistic. Most of the things you cite as “missing” or “lacking” could be considered luxuries when processing a tragedy of this level in a public manner. We’re lucky we got any fun elements from them, and it was important to them for that element to be present because they’re celebrating Joe’s impact on them as much as they are mourning the loss of him. It’s as focused as anyone could be while still in the process of this.
