Another very enjoyable episode. Love the history and showing how versatile an EV can be. It occurred to me you would probably be one of the few people that take your car on dirt roads regularly. As an Atto owner myself I would love you to do a full episode on your experience and what your thoughts on tyres etc may be for dirt road driving. A lot of comments on the forums tend to say they don’t recommend it or it’s not designed for it but personally as someone who has done a lot of dirt roads in other vehicles I really can’t see any reason why not. Just an idea anyway. Keep the videos coming.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I agree there is really no reason not to take the Atto 3 off road, provided the roads are in reasonable condition and not too muddy as well. I suppose it depends how much you like cleaning dust and dirt off your car! Look out in the new year, I have a few episodes coming up you may be interested in. Cheers G

Most estimations put A/C use at about 1kw per hour extra, travelling at 100 km/hr.

The reason it appears to be complex to install a "hard-wired" dashcam is due to the removal of internal dash panels to get to the fuse box and associated wiring to be hidden. I have seen DIY and find I do not have all of the required tools to get it done right nor want to damage my car which wont fall under warranty if I do it myself. My MG4 will get the Navman MiVue Pro 4K installed very soon by Voltaic in Welshpool (Perth, WA) at the same time they will install the electric tailgate from Aliexpress.

By holding down the “rotate screen” button on the steering wheel you bring up a sub menu on the screen and can set the button on the wheel to lock a video or take a photo instead of rotating the screen. Super handy quick access if you want to save a clip from the camera, particularly if you don’t use screen rotation.

I’ve got an Atto 3 with the same ocular unit. I throttle back mine to 15 A to match the solar. What can you achieve out West ?
@bydatto3946127 күн бұрын
I can get as high as 24 A in the middle of the summer ( only for a short period of time though ), but most of the time 15 to 20 A for a few hours at best. I have a 5.7 kw system currently with mostly North facing and some East facing panels. Early morning or late afternoon definitely 15 or lower! The new house we bought has a solar system too, a little larger than my current one ( 6.6 kw I think ) , but only East facing panels, so most of my charging will have to be in the morning until I can put up some new panels facing a different direction. I hope to have over 10 kw next year, possibly a battery as well if I can stretch to that. Thanks for the comment!

Several problems in update 1.71, the voice assistant is not possible anymore to Shut off. It goes on randomly during Conversation.. earlier version 1.7. upgrade had a choice to turn it on or off, ..and turn it on by the wheel button.. it is not possible in the 1.71 update. And the Wheel sensors are not calibrated anymore.. and reports wrong values. And it consumes more Energy now Per mileage then in the earlier upgrade. Hoping for the upgrade that works.

Hi, the slow speed is not the charger. It's the car. Look up the charging curve for the Megane and you'll see 'up to 130kW'. From 30% battery state of charge and upwards it can only charge at a fraction of that. These chargers can do 350kW but the charge speed is dictated by the vehicle attached to the charger.
@bydatto39461Ай бұрын
@@okanepaddy Yes, I'm aware if the charging curve, I've driven dozens of EVs. The curve is flatter than that of my Atto 3 which is what I was pointing out. I can get nearly 90 kw, even up to a battery precentage of well over 70% which is probably a reflection of the battery chemistry. In my opinion, the charging speed is too low on this vehicle

The mesh may be less aerodynamic than the flat wall. There is a lot of engineering reasons why, but you could try a test with covering the front face of that trailer and see how it goes.

As I mentioned to you, in the menus under autopilot you can have this setup as one push down to activate autopilot which means you get active cruise control with lane keeping (tesla calls this auto steer), or you can setup that up with double push down on the right lever for autopilot. Single push of the right hand lever will get you active cruise control. Of course you get lane departure warning and emergency lane departure warning in all modes whether it will be cruise control or autopilot. I believe this is part of the requirements of getting a five star ancap rating. You can of course disable these so called assists but they reactivate next time you drive 🙄
@bydatto394612 ай бұрын
Is this different to previous Teslas? In previous test drives/ hires , I pushed down once, and it would engage cruise control without any lane keeping features ( or whatever Tesla calls them ) Or is this a deliberate menu setting that this dealer has set up? This is the part I don't understand. Is this now an integrated feature of " Cruise Control" ? I pushed down once at all times during the test drive to engage cruise control. It still doesn't explain either why the car jerked violently a couple of times ( towards the car in the left lane of a double- laned road ) and then disabled the feature. Either there is a fault, a menu setting has been changed to showcase this " feature " or cruise control itself is now different. Or perhaps there is a different way to use "normal" cruise control that is now different to previous models I've drove. Either way, for a test drive, it was disappointing and unnerving, and not intuitive. I'll call you later! 😂

Thanks best range speed in the Atto3 is 85kmh. At that speed you should get around 15KWhr per 100km. The Atto is quite draggy and energy consumption rises quickly above 90 kmh.
@bydatto394612 ай бұрын
Unfortunately it's a busy single lane highway, so going 85km/hr would probably piss of a lot of drivers! Especially during the day when I mostly drive. It would also add about an hour to an already long trip as well if you want to do it in one go. However, it's an interesting thought experiment, if it was a 2 lane highway all the way, and I could really get 15 kwhr/ 100 kms, then it would add around an hour. I would only have to charge once, so I could take away a 30 min charge stop, adding only about 30 minutes overall. So I guess an alternative way to do it. I usually take my time on these trips, and don't often do it in one go, so it doesn't bother me if I have to charge more.
@jimgraham67222 ай бұрын
@@bydatto39461 I have carefully checked our Atto for range at various speeds on a very long straight stretch of road not far from where I live, so can confirm the 15kWhr at 85kmh. You can even do slightly better at 80kmh. However the road has to be dead flat and no wind. Undulations, slowing, speeding up quickly reduce economy. Actually it's not very different from the diesel ICE I used to economy check. For most cars such as diesel Mercs, 80kmh is a sweet spot for maximum range. An exception in my experience was the Citroen ID19 with sealed underbody and adjustable ride height. It was very economical for a mid sized sedan of that era and achieved maximum range at around 100kmh. In the 1960s I used to drive mine non stop except for refresh, from Adelaide to Sydney with no problems. I used to race my mate on that trip in his e-type. I generally won because he had to make two or three fuel stops. They don't make them like that anymore.

@@bydatto39461 Just another question if you don’t mind. As you do a lot of trips from Kalgoorlie in your ATTO3 do you carry a spare wheel and tyre or do you rely on the supplied sealer?
@brettbarnes73702 ай бұрын
That was a funny video on how you both look after your EV’s. My ATTO and my wife’s ICE Hyundai are the reverse of you guys. Therefore I am a bit concerned about red dusty gravel roads as I am taking a hike down to Albany next month and visiting some friends who live in the farming area of Donneybrook. My question is , can you wash off most of the red dust from the ATTO or is it engrained forever under the wheel arches and body of the ATTO? Also if I drive slower on the gravel roads will that reduce the dust on my ATTO? I don’t want to be too precious about it however I do like it looking sparkling clean. My neighbours just took possession of a BYD Sealion for him and a Seal for her. Keep the videos coming, loving them.
@bydatto394612 ай бұрын
Thanks Brett. The paint is pretty good on an Atto, mine always comes up good when I wash off the dirt and dust. I don't have any staining, just give it a good pressure hose everywhere and you should be fine. The problem with gravel roads is the potential for chips from other drivers, especially trucks. Even the windscreen is at risk if other drivers pass too fast or close. The underside might get a few dings, but if you are careful it's nothing serious. But even on bitumen you can get a chip! All my windscreens chips on previous cars were on sealed roads, so go figure. The seals are also good on an Atto, but you will get some dust trying to get in the seals, so I usually have to specially clean the around the seals on the boot and door. Driving slower won't really reduce the dust much ( unless you crawl along ) that's just something you'll have to deal with and clean off after. We've noticed on some of the Wheatbelt dirt roads, that the car will detect a high level of cabin particulates and do an air-clean to purify the air so that function works well. All the best!
