I played this on my violin for my dad today while waiting for the funeral home to come pick him up. Music was the most important thing for him after my mom died and he loved this song.

Bringing in the tiny nuances in clawhammer banjo is xtreme difficult but exponential effictive.

If you are of this world, the world will love you (big star, hall of fame) but because you are not of this world, the world will hate you (refuse to make you a star)

This is a Beautiful Song, but I think it would be MORE PERSUASIVE if the Lyric states that: "I ENJOY TALKING TO MYSELF... AS IT HELPS ME REFLECT ON ..." People Do TALK to Themselves and it's a Positive Release, and SATISFYING. Any Thoughts? Curious.... Truly..... ❤ 😂

This song broke through a dam in my heart to a place I'd almost managed to forget, and an ocean of sorrowful tears poured out of me. I guess I can carry a torch with the best of them. Now that is some seriously great songwriting! I didn't think my weary heart could feel this much any more - but oh yes it can. Wow.

CSB: When I got married back in 1991, this was a very well-known tune because of the Ken Burns' series. My fiancee wanted a string quartet at the wedding, so I asked my landlord (a fiddle player) if he knew of where I could find an arrangement of this song. He said, "Why would you want an arrangement? Here's Jay (Ungar's) phone number." I called, and Jay picked up. Sure, they could do the wedding...AND the reception. The cost and travel would have been affordable....and we could have a GRAMMY WINNING musician play the wedding. I thought it would be perfect, since the wedding was being held outdoors at a historic Virginia hotel, complete with split-rail fencing and wide country views. She nixed the idea. She wanted a DJ for the reception. Instead of a Grammy winner, I ended up doing the Electric Slide and Chicken Dance.
