Drafted bicycle records are a thing, since late in the 1800's where a single rider traded off the lead, to tandems and quads cutting the air for the recordrunner. Any disparaging remarks are from jealous critics who should get out of their La Z Boy and try it for themselves!

Drafting does not seem like it is human-powered. I am sorry, but it does not seem right. I used to see cars and motorcycles that would draft tractor-trailers on the Interstate.

I was a bicycle racer and a big part of prepping for racing is to follow the draft of a vehicle at a higher speed than I could maintain on my own. I drafted (rode in the slipstream) my gf’s van with the hatch open. I was feeling like the man with people staring at me riding a bicycle down the Hwy at 55mph, until… I began to sweat and my sweat was flying into the van. Point is, based on how the wind acts, it can actually push the rider. Thus, it is not human powered. It is a female riding a bicycle, not entirely using her own power.

If your not peddling to achieve a certain speed then your not doing that speed by yourself. Not impressed at all. That like riding your bike down a mountain and saying you did 100mph.

Yeah, NO.. Nothing against this rider or team (I thinks it's really cool what they are doing) but it is NOT HUMAN POWERED. They are artificially removing the wind resistance and that should not be called "human powered" because it isn't.

Doesn't seem right unless the aero is on the bike itself, and they should get to full speed under their own power. An astronaut riding an exercycle on the International Space Station can go thousands of MPH, but he doesn't get a medal for that.

Can anyone seriously say they the rider is peddling at that speed, when their legs are only moving at normal racing bike riding speed. Their legs would be a blur if that was the case. All they are doing is draughting the tow vehicle and peddling to keep inside the narrow 'zone' between moving forward or backwards. The tow vehicle probably has to slow down enough at the end for the rider to be safe when leaving the 'zone'.

I'll contribute to the comments, these speed records are bull shit. Without the vehicle sucking his ass along , this jasper couldn't get to 40 mph. I'd like to see these cyclist start from a dead start. Knock off this phoney record crap.

I have a speeding ticket for doing 98 kph in a 60 kph limit on a bicycle, without being towed.actual speed 112 kph. The cop did me a favour as the 112 would havve given me prison time. So he fudged the speed.

what's with all the negativity? In non spandex/aero clothing my DH bike being pedaled to its max down a steep canyon asphalt road tops out around 55mph. So I think taking measures to go these speeds on a pedal bike is pretty awesome. How many of the people commenting want to get towed on their bikes over 100mph?
