Whoever ordered a fully paved, 4 lane, macadam highway is going to be delighted with that section draped across the foredeck of this ship. And all of those smashed up cargo containers are providing sufficient cushion to keep the roadway intact for the long voyage. Clever idea, if you ask me😂😂

The structure should have been removed far more quickly and efficiently by employing diamond studded cable saws. Shop salvagers employ the process to quickly slice and dice whole ships into manageable removable sliced sections. The east coast contracting community is as corrupt as all get out.

Because the ship is their home and job. They have no place to go and are still needed on the ship. They are also far from the explosions with hundreds of steel containers between them and the explosion's.

So how many marine salvage projects have you participated in? Competent marine salvage requires extensive engineering and technical experience BEFORE the first move, to ensure everything goes smoothly and no further damage is done. It's a VERY risky business, and all risks must be identified and mitigated. I'd say that the Unified Salvage Command is making extraordinary progress, under the circumstances. There have been ZERO untoward incidents so far in this extremely complex project, which is due to their very thorough and professional approach.

The DALI is still a fully manned and fully operating vessel. Its diesel generators and all auxiliary systems are still running, powering the hotel load and all other essential services, and will continue to do so.

Many of the containers are refrigerated/freezer. They get power from the ship so the ships generators have to be kept running. Basically everything is running except the main engine which only turns the prop.

NO! None of the crew have been discharged. They have numerous agencies advocating on their behalf. Among these are their employer, their union, their respective embassies, and many non-profits oriented towards seamen's welfare, such as the Seamen's Church Institute. Much has been published in recent weeks about the crew and their situations. For now, they all must remain on board to husband and operate the vessel, for the duration of the investigation. USGC and NTSB, the primary investigation agencies, are not the most alacritive in their investigations. They tend to grind things into a very fine dust, before publishing their respective reports.

They have 2 forward ballast tanks filled with water. She will not float again until the crew lighten the bow. It may be actually stuck in the mud. Mud can create a suction that is hard to break free from

Naw,they will put a patch on it to get it to a dry-dock and probably put a new bow on it. But first they have to get all those containers off.

The bow certainly does require extensive repairs before the DALI can put to sea again, according to a cursory visual inspection, but a competent marine repairs facility could likely complete those repairs in about 60 days or so. If it's still making money, that's probably what will happen.

Did not go the way I thought it would, according to the model shown to us. I thought all of he bridge pieces would slide back into the water landing on top of each other for easy clearing up. Somebody made a miscalculation when explosives were placed. Really disappointed.

@marylou: hopefully your life can go on without long lasting negative feelings. See? They did what they had to do without regards as to how it may impact your apparently fragile psyche. The animated model DID NOT take into consideration the containers remaining on the bow, some of which included various HAZMATS. That’s WHY it was rigged to tumble “head first” leaving some of the lower structure behind rather than expose the HAZMATS to direct contact with the explosions. I hope this explanation helps you come to grips with your disappointment.

After more than a month of 24/7 rescue and salvage operations, I guess the Unified Command can use all the help they can get. HOWEVER, I have no idea who these folks are or what they are doing regards the “rubble mission” WHATEVER that means?

The rubble is the large steel pieces that are on the bottom. As the work above the water is complete, that leaves the very hard work, cleaning the bottom. Dredges need a clean bottom to deepen the channel by removing the mud/dirt. This boat gives them another set of underwater eyes and crew. There are video's of the early sonar. "Gus" needs help.
