Dude, you’re a lifesaver, that was the best DIY video I’ve seen in years. The Milgard warranty people are useless for second owners of “lifetime warranty” windows. You just saved me about $400 in quoted handyman labor for something that took me about an hour to do. You rock! ❤

Thank you so much for this video - extremely helpful. Didn't even know these were called "window balancers" before watching - let alone how to replace them. On another note, I share your frustration with Milgard. After fighting with them on the warranty (what difference does it make for warranty purposes who owns the house) they wouldn't even respond to requests for directions on how to repair.

I called Home Depot, gave them the numbers on my balancers which I saw written on them, when taking the window out temporarily. Home depot ordered them from Milgard and I put them in. No weights or measurements to take, just two numbers on the sides of the balancers. I do agree they are cheaply made.

Thanks for taking the time to save all the rest of us time and money. And, to answer the question about why Milgard makes it almost impossible to get replacement parts, they'd rather we call their sales people and be lectured on why we should buy new windows instead of replacing the cheap parts and extending the life of perfectly good windows. They have no interest in us "second owners" of aging homes expect to sell us new windows.

Saved me a bunch using Swisco. The size I needed was not common on other sites. The local dealer and other sites wanted over $50 each! It was going to cost me over $100 each window for 16 windows!

Thanks so much for your helpful video. I have a Milgard window that has a broken balancer and I will follow your directions to replace. Agree with your frustration with Milgard site being totally unhelpful for replacement parts. Very odd as typically manufacturer's sites are easy to maneuver and helpful.

That is the wrong pump for that task you are not doing anything using that pump it moves water way to fast and it is doing nothing buy the kit it comes with all the right stuff to do that with. But as of now you have done exactly zero flushing of that the waters just moving way too fast I'm much smaller pump that goes much slower.

@aceofspades6667 No real issues. Only problem I had dealt with restarting it after I had to kill our gas supply for a few minutes. I was replumbing the gas line under our gas cooktop during some cabinet renovations. I turned off the gas supply at the meter. When I turned the gas back on, the water heater logic went apeshit. Error messages non-stop. Took 15 minutes of fumbling with the controls, acknowledging further error messages, etc, til it somehow started working again. With my old dumb water heater I'd just have had to relight the pilot. Could do that in my sleep. So, it's worked fine since then. But it made me realize going efficient and high-tech has its downside, and I am now at the mercy of dozens of sensors, circuit boards, etc that could go south at any time.

Two years? 25+ years ago we bought a new cookware set. It came from Sam's club for $125. The set is aluminum hard anodized. I've used them everyday since then. I love them. They are indestructible. But, at first I couldn't figure out why the pans became so sticky. You couldn't fry an egg and keep an unbroken yolk. So, I researched why foods stick to cookware, even non-stick cookware. What I found was that food will stick to any surface eventually if it is not impeccably clean. So, I seasoned my pans well. Then, I stopped washing them with soap because it can't maintain the surface. Now, I heat the pan to soften food residue and wipe it off with a paper towel. When my pans need to have any burnt, stuck on food removed, I use coarse salt and a paper towel over heat (for aluminum). Or, a heavy duty stainless steel chainmail scouring pad (carbon steel, cast iron) to clean it. If the seasoning becomes damaged, I spot-season it on the stove top. I don't season in the oven ever. It's not necessary.

after 2 years, are they still non-stick?
@ThisTall Жыл бұрын
My main concern with buying these, isn’t the non stick, but how thick and heavy the base is. 9 out of 10 times non stick pans are so lite the handle weighs more then the pan and the small pans will hardly sit level without weight in them.
@BCSpecht898 ай бұрын
HexClad pans are uniformly thick and heavy. No one would claim that they are lightweight. They are a hybrid design that is meant to combine some of the features of stainless steel, nonstick, and cast iron cookware. They heat up quickly and uniformly. They brown and sear foods beautifully. They maintain heat much like cast iron. They provide even heat distribution so your foods will cook evenly, and your sauces will simmer uniformly all across the surface. They are wonderfully easy to clean by simple handwashing. Their nonstick surface helps foods release easily, while the raised stainless steel pattern in the cookware sureface helps to protect the nonstick material from metal utensils if you choose to use them. But please note, they are not, strictly speaking, nonstick cookware. They are not designed to perform the same as a dedicated brand of nonstick cookware. If that's what you want to cook your eggs with no oil or butter like The America's Test Kitchen test, then buy a true nonstick Teflon pan and be prepared to replace it every 2 years or so. With reasonable care, HexClad will last many years. Only you can decide if they are worth the price. There seems to be a lot of HexClad haters out there who want to discredit this brand. I've seen them doing torture tests on these pans such as digging the tip of a sharp steel utility knife into the nonstick material to see if they can gouge some of it loose. Or they will run an electric mixer all over the surface to try to damage it. That may be the way they like to treat their cookware, but it certainly is not the way I treat mine. Their abusive treatment of their HexClad pans seems like nothing more than clickbait rather than reasonable use. If you are curious about HexClad, buy one pan, preferably on sale, and try it out. I recommend the 10 inch skillet. That's what I did. For me, it proved to be everything the manufacturer claimed.

Thanks for the review... still thinking about this set do u still love it?
@buck4mt Жыл бұрын
I do still love the set up pans. As I washed them today, all I could think is that we've owned them now for 4 years... and they still look and work great! I have had others comment that they didn't last as long for them, which I find strange to hear. I do tend to cook things on lower heat for a little longer versus high heat for shorter lengths of time. I don't know if that has anything to do with why they continue to stay in such good shape with so much use? All I know is that these pans have to be one of the best purchases that we've made. I hate dish washing, but find it so satisfying as I wash these pans. Anyway, thanks for your note. If you do end up getting a set - I hope you find the same and love them as much as I do.

Watch out, their lifetime warranty is actually 5 years. They consider five years the average lifetime of these pans. Saw another KZbinr read it in the fine print.
@buck4mt Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. For me, I never really think anything really lasts a lifetime anyway. If a set of pans are used constantly and still look like new five years later - I guess that is a win in my book. I know none of the other pans we've ever had have ever lasted this long while looking this good. Especially for non-stick. Most that we owed in the past would start to have the non-stick surface start to flake away... and we all know that certainly is not healthy.

Can’t say I was impressed. The wok scratched instantly and that lifetime warranty doesn’t cover a lot we had to fight with them to replace the wok.
@buck4mt2 жыл бұрын
We don't use the wok much in our house. I probably should use the wok more, but we use the other pans so much that I essentially cook with them, wash them, and set them aside to dry... and then just grab them off the drying rack next time I cook. I hardly ever even open the pans cabinet anymore... so I forget to even use the wok and instead just use the pans. Yikes, this clearly shows my bad cooking habits. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear you scratch the wok... how did it happen? After years of use I haven't scratched any of the pans... and I'd love to keep it that way - so I'd love to hear how it happened if you don't mind sharing? Also, thanks for sharing your comment. My experience with these pans has been so positive. However, it is good for people to hear the negatives too - so thanks for sharing your experience!

@@buck4mt I used metal tongs to get stir fry out and it really marred it. It was a fight to get them to replace it as the Costco representative had told us if any scratches in the nonstick layer happened they’d replace it. As far as the other pans I can’t complain I’ve never had any issue with sticking which seemed to be most people’s problems when the complain about hexclad. I just think for what you pay their warranty should cover damages especially if you’re gonna tell people to use metal on the pans.

@@TheHuggybear516 Thanks for letting me know, I'll avoid using metal tongs. Regarding their warranty - I couldn't agree more with you!! They certainly go out of their way to promote that it is okay to use metal cooking utensils, so if that's what causes a scratch - they should certainly stand behind their warranty!

Hi Buck, thanks so much for your review from an “Average Joe’s” perspective - I too am no professional chef, just a regular mom cooking for my family every day, so I appreciate your practical point of view. I also loved how you posted after using the pans for 2 years - so many reviews were just unboxing and first use, which really doesn’t apply to real life in the long run. I’m tired of having to replace my non-stick pans every 3 years and these look to be a good longterm investment. Your review has made me feel more comfortable investing in a set from Costco myself. Ps: I also found your simple “low-tech” approach to recording the video entirely charming! Thanks :)
@davidr98762 жыл бұрын
As an owner of Hexclad myself, here's my take. They tried to create a pan where you can use metal utensils on a non-stick-coated pan. But what they created is a pan with all the downsides of stainless steel (food sticks more than a non-stick pan) coupled with all the downsides of non-stick (off gasses over 500 degrees, which it's possible to do on the stove and the non-stick will degrade after a couple years. Plus, their lifetime warranty is for manufacturing defects, so not really something you will be able to collect on when the pan sticks like crazy. Since the surface is not smooth (non-stick valleys between steel peaks) and the pan WILL degrade. Also, for the price, you could be buying high quality pans that will last a lifetime and be more non-stick and you can heat to higher temp without worry of vapors being released. On the plus side, the pans hold and distribute heat well. But I think the stainless plus non-stick form of this plan is a gimmick. Get yourself a good stainless pan and a separate non stick that's cheap and you will toss after a couple years. Or just learn to cook with stainless or carbon steel and forget non-stick-coated pans altogether.
@buck4mt2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for adding your personal experience. It is helpful for others to get more than one perspective. I'm shocked to hear that you find that food sticks to your pans. Ours are still holding up extremely well and we use them daily (or really close to daily). They still wash off so easy - I love it. But, I do confess that we often cook at low temperatures, so maybe that's why? Anyway, thanks again for sharing your experience.

I was thinking about it all wrong, I was thinking a fuse issue or turn signal relay, but it makes more sense now that I think about it that it's the actual turn signal mechanism. (I have zero experience before now with this issue). I can get it to work most of the time as long as I turn it on slowly enough. If I turn it on quickly it doesn't work at all on the left side. I use my signals religiously so this is one issue that has been really bugging me since it started to happen. As long as I have enough solder I think I should hopefully be able to fix this tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Great video. Thank you! Had watched it several months ago when our windows were giving us problems and again a couple days ago, but stopped before you measured the width at the bottom. Then I decided it was a good time to pull the window out. I remembered to measure the length and weight, but forgot about the width at the bottom shoe. I too narrowed it down to the 380 & 385 and now, two days later, I finished watching your video. Lucky me, I need the exact same model as you and can reason to the 1" width from all the pictures I took. Thanks again.

That's what the lifetime warranty is for if you actually have problems. Better than paying for other expensive cookware and having to still replace them. Ours works flawless for five six years, without annual flushing. By year six, water started getting cold mid-shower temperamentally. And it gets very frequent in the seventh year. I’d decided to flush it yesterday. No pump at home, just two used shower hoses with 20mm threaded ends. Manually injecting 1L of vinegar repeatedly for about an hour or two, until vinegar turns blue-ish green. Purge and rinse everything, and its all back to good now.
