Cool stuff, but the Het Set is atrocious and doesn't work to get "MetallicA tones" at all. - Yea, if you want to sound like their last two or three albums, or the way Hetfield sounds live since he started using them like a decade ago, but it's so fizzy that you might as well plug into a Line 6 Spider. - Trust me, you need the 81/60s, which you can't get around. Though, some of their sound came from old standard pickups that came with their Gibsons and such. - And also a lot of their sound came from driving the speakers to their limits. You can hear them just pump into the microphone, which creates that punchy compressed sound. You're not gonna get it without at least a bunch of people nearby hearing it as well. - Just saying... Just getting the same or similar gear and setting it similarly isn't the whole picture, some parts are more critical, such as the speakers and microphones even. - The signature pickups just don't help in terms of the old sound, I don't know what they were thinking making those, but it was up to Het I guess...

Don’t they use that “plug and play “ technology? Like they don’t have to be soldered in, if you have the wiring they sell, you just plug in the pickups. Guitarfetish Xaviere guitars have been doing this for years… but not sure if the “het set” is trying to sell them as such. They have been around for quite some time. I have a set that I’ve never bothered to go through the work of installing.

I would even say you need the wired 80s version Meg 81. I recently wired one up and bam old school Metallica! I have a new 81 and it doesn’t sound the same.
