And this is the real shit. Emily is the real deal. Such a sweet soul and an amazing educator. I learned more from a 30 minute video of hers than 10 years of BS private lessons. May the great Lord keep her in his or her graces 🙏🏽

I’m so glad I got to see his solo show, circa 1990. He was inspirational! RIP, and thanks, Joe.

Back in the early eighties I read an article in guitar player mag... obscure artist, new, highly regarded. So they used to be this record store on Guam, which carried a lot of surprising releases for a record store on Guam.... I popped in there bam!!! They had it, I got it and I practically wore that grooves off of that record. For some odd reason that record store carried a lot of stuff that was reviewed in guitar player and I picked up some good releases out of there. The only other record store of note that I ran across in those days was Byrdland records in Virginia Beach but this one in Guam was spectacularly similar. They carried a lot of Japanese Jazz releases as well. I had a question for Bruce so I wrote him a letter in care of the record company that handled the In Transit album, I included a self-addressed stamped envelope and Bruce wrote a very nice letter in return, which I have to this day.

Wow what an amazing talent. Jazz really is just a completely different language. Unlike any other music you could ever find, and this man was so expressive. This solo had me just closing my eyes and rocking my head side to side. I think it is the lack of lyrics that makes it even more compelling. It can speak to anyone just through feelings alone. Amazing. Steve Marcus, rest in peace. Thank you for bringing me these feelings with your art.

Well over 40 years since first hearing it, every note memorized and repeated in my head maybe thousands of times. Had no idea it was improvised, nor the backstory until today. Truly a pivotal piece of music in my, and I'll bet many others, life.
