Thanks for this video. It would be *great* if you could go into “when is it too small” a little more, as all the online content I can find is more about small people, Halcyon (et al) are a little vague about it, and instructors don’t really know either. Large backplates are special order so can’t try and see without spending a lot.

Thanks for showing all the differences that a smaller backplate can make. At what height do you think the threshold would be for a diver to consider a smaller vs larger BP?

Hi, I just got a Halcyon backplate and wing from a friend and the blatter is just a mess so I need a new blatter. However Halcyon's homepage is a disaster. It loads super slow. Have they stopped production or is this just a glitch today?

All those kinds of BCD's are garbage. They tend to float you face down. The only BC's I will use are the older ScubaPro jackets or the older horse collar type like USD and Fenzy.The Dive wings drown far too many divers. Look u the fatalities of the Sea Wing.

Don’t some people say jacket are better for all the extra weights you carry shove them in the pockets as a dive master

Bought a Mares Rock Pro BCD, and 1 year later, I regret it, should have seen this video 1 year ago, Wing BCD is far better, but the first wing I will buy I will make sure it can handle a backplate for doubles as well, wanted to mount 2x 10 liter on my back.

I started diving in 1998 with a jacket BC and around 2005 bought a wing BC, "wow " was my first dive with it. I like that the front is very open with this style BC so not a lot of crap to deal with. I will never go back to a jacket BC. Buy once, cry once.

Can you please list them and organize by right and left while I could capture most it was hard due to the divers accent and quality of sound recording

Too right. I started my son in a wing and backplate set up. He’s 15 and big. Fabulous free diver but not comfortable in scuba. I figured the rental jackets just weren’t comfortable for him, hence the wing and bp. Happy as Larry! Totally into his diving and very very happy to be diving with him. I’ve been using the Xdeep set up for a few years and absolutely love it - after 20 years of my faithful jacket - which finally died on a fast negative descent crazy rush in the Philippines! Last dive of the visit. 🥵

Can the Halcyon Carbon Fibre Single Tank Adapter adapt to the normal size back plate? I’m having difficulties stabilising my tank with the built in the carbon single adapter. My tank ends up tilting to the left of my body. Any recommendations on how to change that? Or improve the fit? I have the adventurer pro carbon bpw 😌

Can the bungee at the bottom be replaced? Mine is starting to not hold as well as it’s been stretching out over the years.

Attach a strap to your handheld light and the problem is solved for a lot less money.

I hire halcyon wing BCD once at one of the dive shop for 2 dives last year, When the first time I wear it feels different as I often use Jacket BCD and one of the dive guide said to me that you dont need putting too much weight. As soon as I dive I notice that it’s good for the trim. I agree with this guy regarding to the sizing. Halcyon does not need size, like a traditional Jacket BCD where you have to find a correct sizes that fit on your body. As long I found the right plate for the BCD. Hopefully it’s a good choice for me as I am currently working out for a weight loss.

If thats such a great feature, then why are they selling the same thing basically without the cord? Also a basic backup light should do the trick for the price halcyon is asking. Lets be real... Its not cave diving...

The Halcyon gear does look good. I like the extra burn time of a corded light and the fact that the weight of that battery isn't on your hand anymore. Having said that, batteries are getting better all the time and my Apex gives 27Ah/98Wh in a 500g canister. That's just 250g net in the water for up to 14 hours of light. Snuggled up in the spine of my wing it also makes no noticealbe difference to trim. And yes I too have dropped a light, fortunately onto the flat side of a wreck at only 20m!

Many advanced trainers would disagree with your last demonstration- as after you pass your belt through for use you will have 3 layers of belt clasping down and many people complain of buckle coming loose while driving - which turns into a royal pain.

The biggest draw back of a wing is at the surface, it wants to push your face in the water and you have to work to keep vertical.

Did placing the canister on your waist band require you to place some weight on the other side of your waistband to maintain good trim? My canister is 11.4” tall, 2.6” diameter and weighs 4.6 lbs. great for SM and bungeed to my butt plate, but want to use it with my BP&W using a single back mounted cylinder while diving with my kids. Is it practical with the size of this canister? Thanks

When i started with my OW i had a traditional jacket...problem is i was a big guy around my belly at this time. So there where a lot of refitting straps under water etc and still the jacket BCD rolled around me sometimes and i rlly had to fight for a trim.... thats not fun when you learn diving, was about to call it after the 3th dive then my instructor gave me his wing style jacket.... what to say i was hooked to diving since then :D
