Wow man nice adventure,quick question,have you ever faced difficulty or being under search or check with a conservation officer especially in Quebec?
@ShawnNorthernOutdoorExperience
@ShawnNorthernOutdoorExperience 26 күн бұрын
This was my one and only trip to Quebec for hunting. We never had a run in with conservation officers on this trip but I always check and double check that I have all the necessary documents on my person so if or when I am stopped, I am completely legal and there is no fiddling around when asked to show proof of documents. Short story long, never had issues. Have you?

@@ShawnNorthernOutdoorExperience i am about to start my friend but i was reading the whole thing about hunting and safety ect,just i am wondering if i am gonna have a headache with the law since the conservation officer have more authority than a cop,he can search all of you including document caliber firearm even your car without a Warrant.
@ShawnNorthernOutdoorExperience

Without question. You have to be able to produce any document or be questioned any time, any place upon request. Personally, I always make sure that I know for certain that I am within the law whether I'm fishing or hunting and in a position to produce all documents when asked. Keep them handy and dry. I often have run in's while hunting and fishing in Ontario with no issues. Fishing and Hunting regulation books are like bibles to me. I go over them every year to see if there have been any changes and use them as refreshers to know that I'm legal. Basically cross your T's and dot your i's and all should be good.

Protects the boat from flying rocks. Also gives you the freedom to hit more lakes with gravel road access and not be worried about pitting your paint. I've been eyeballing these for a long time. Great invention.

Good spot right across from my favorite campsite but for fall pickerel head for the base of Recollect Falls rapids. Careful heading under the rail bridge kind of an S turn to avoid the rocks but then you are home free.

I stayed at Houston Lake camp prob 12 to 15 times starting at age 9 up through my early 40s. The cost has kept me away now. But I have a million fond memories of the place. When I was younger in the eàrly 80s, the small Mouth where few and far between and Perch were everywhere. Now it's small Mouth everywhere. The Pike, have always been fun to catch. But Walleye, were the true treasure to catch for my Dad and I. I would love to go back with a bunch of work friends.

We did catch quite a few Smallmouths and you're absolutely correct, Walleye are the target species for most of the visitors and the pike are plentiful and nice size. I'd love to go back and fly fish for the pike. We really enjoyed our stay. Thanks for the comment.

Hey Tanner. I use a couple of different line and reel set ups. On my set up for throwing egg patterns and very light streamers I use Rio's Switch line and on the other set up I use a Skagit head. Airflo's Streamer Switch designed for heavier flies. Both these set ups are used on 1 rod. St Croix Imperial 11 foot 6 weight Switch Rod. I'll switch reel combos depending what technique or river system I'm faced with. There a newer lines on the market now worth looking into as well.

Hey thanks for the reply! I just finished my 11ft 7weight and am looking to learn to swing, picked up a commando head and some tips... coming from a centerpin id like to be able to occasionally just run around with just the switch rod and switch lines/spool for swinging and nymphing and leave the big stick at the truck. cant decide on a good indicator/tight line. Thanks for the input.@@ShawnNorthernOutdoorExperience

@@ShawnNorthernOutdoorExperience Thank you for the advice! I've seen very few of those CLAs come up on the auction site but I'll keep my eyes posted. Although I am looking at a few beautiful old Medalists - would you have any experience matching these with older clickers at all? And do you use thin running line and have an opinion on full cage or not? I noticed the CLA is not. I'm new to this and don't know whether to jump onboard the 'full cage or die' train.
@ShawnNorthernOutdoorExperience
@ShawnNorthernOutdoorExperience Жыл бұрын
I have experimented with a few different spey lines and tend to lean towards the integrated lines where the running line and shooting heads are moulded into one continuous line. No loop to loop connection between them. The drawback when using integrated lines is reduced casting distance compared to a mono running line. Less drag= more distance. I have fished with a skagit shooting head and 25lb slick shooter running line but I personally didn't like the feeling of the super small diameter mono running line between my fingers and found it difficult to manipulate. Perhaps I just didn't give it enough time. In regards to caged or non caged reels, I don't feel it necessary to be using a caged reel when using integrated lines. Chances of the line getting wrapped into the reel are slim. On the other hand, if you are leaning towards an outfit with a mono running line, I would definitely consider a caged fly reel. It all boils down to personal preference. Try several options of lines if possible. Eventually you will find what best suits you and most likely end up with a couple different options to suit multiple river situations. As far as the medalist goes, I can't say what would be a comparable clicker for that time. Hope this helps a little. Good luck shopping.
