Beautiful to see those planes in action. Sad to see that the dc4 is sitting in pretty rough shape on the other side of the airport, just rusting away. Not sure where the b25 went though.

Excellent video! I love the great catch with the BNSF coming off the Phoenix Peavine Line and onto the Southern Transcon Line. I have always wanted to Railfan this location when I was in the Williams area, but still have not as of yet! Thanks for sharing and please add more if you have them!
@wfkane20053 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I understand what you have said here. I started railfanning this area from NY back in the 90s. This is the first time I have found a train coming of the Peavine. That said, I have driven into Williams recently now that I live in Az and have found trains sitting downtown, and approaching downtown from the West at a signal behind some pine trees. Ive heard the crew change point is in Ash Fork and have seen 1 train waiting to go south on the other side of the 40 recently Not a lot of traffic from my point of view to even bother trying to Railfan that line Bill

Nice little yard switching action, and thanks for uploading this. Question: When they cut the car loose while in motion, is that considered 'a drop', or 'flying switch'?
@wfkane20054 ай бұрын
When railroads are flat switching a yard, they use various terms to describe the process and different activities involved. Some common terms include: 1. **Flat Switching**: The process of sorting rail cars on flat ground, as opposed to using a hump yard. 2. **Cut**: A group of rail cars that are coupled together. 3. **Shove**: Pushing rail cars into position. 4. **Pull**: Pulling rail cars out of a track or a cut. 5. **Kick**: Uncoupling a car while the locomotive is in motion, allowing the car to roll freely into a designated track. 6. **Drill**: The act of switching cars in and out of tracks within the yard. 7. **Trim**: The process of pulling cars from classification tracks and building outbound trains. 8. **Joint**: The point where two cars are coupled together. 9. **Stretch**: Pulling the train slightly to ensure all couplings are secure. 10. **Foul**: When a car or locomotive is obstructing a switch or track. 11. **Pin**: Lifting the pin lifter to uncouple cars. 12. **Tie Down**: Securing a car or train with handbrakes. These terms help rail yard workers coordinate and efficiently manage the complex task of sorting and assembling trains.

Why is the Engine facing back words?
@wfkane20058 ай бұрын
Bob, This Phoenix subdivision runs West and ends miles from here. There is no wye to turn around. So heading West it runs normally. In order to ring back empties it picks them up on a different siding and therefore must travel long hood forward on the return.
