1.Varnam:Karunimpa:"Sahana" [as per the great Prof. SR Janakiraman Saar "SAHANA" MUST be pronounced: Suh-Huh-Na! {all shorts} Not Sahaaana or Shahaana!!!]; (2). "Hamsadhwani" : Gajavadanabeduve, Purandaradasa. I applaud the vidushi for announcing the raga AFTER rendering it this way this yours truly septuagenarian rasika got a kick out of guessing the raga all by himself. There is nothing more blissful than a vainika-gayaka vidushi performing as she sings and plays the stringed instrument! Ha ha ... The violin is mellifluously fluid and adds to the veena's luster!! No doubt! Mridangam is sweet and apt. Ghatam's gap-filling is commendable! (3) With this uncalled for preannouncement of Sriranjani raga the woman smashed my joy of listening plus her talk in Tamil at a temple in Malayalam-speaking Kerala drives me away from listening to the rest of the kutcheri. Bharat and LR built a beautiful Sri Raga alapana edifice for Lord Thyagesa, a composition as weighty as the mighty Tiruvarur theru. This krithi was clearly the highlight for me among a set of weighty krithis. Utsava Prabandam was also presented soulfully. Sairam complemented Bharat and LR with poise and understanding. Thanks, Sri Padmakumar for these lovely long form sessions. Brings out the best from the artistes and also helps them to pace themselves. Best wishes to the organisers and team
