I have a problem with relatively long term exposure to vibration and vibration frequency in my home, it seems it has caused me to be ultra sensitive to any vibrations. Eg standing or sitting near a big engine vehicle and even sitting on the bank of a rapid stream/river, it feels like a skin abrasion that has become so sore that even the slightest touch causes significant pain or discomfort. I am desperate for info on this subject if anyone can help with info or advice pls comment. Thanks

Good morning. I understand that the sound level meter also records sound during the measurement; How can I download that sound?
@LarsonDavisPCB
@LarsonDavisPCB 5 ай бұрын
You can view results and download the sound recordings using the free software G4 LD Utility, available on Larson Davis' website. Open your results file, view Data, and find sound recordings in the spreadsheet in the Session Log, Events, or Measurement History tab, depending on how your meter was set up.

Did someone f up the data here? Or how they edited the video? In the sections where data numbers are posted as the rifle is fired it reads barrel noise at 96 something and shooter receiving the 100+ db levels, then at the end of the vid it shows numbers on computer spreadsheet as being opposite.....hmmm ya really good video people...engineers, pffft.

When using microphones designed for very loud impulsive noise, the measurement range in which you are able to measure peak levels accurately is limited to high sound pressure levels. At 4:29 in the video you can see an example where the peak levels are both shown and you can see that the barrel position is the louder point when the gun is fired.

@@LarsonDavisPCBwhat is the price to rent a meter capable of reading gun fire decibles? I can't find any information. Just a round about for let's say a week? I just want to see what my air rifle is doing compared to a 22 cal firearm

Can I use a meter in the same day two different times? First 8am-4pm and second 10am-6pm?
@LarsonDavisPCB
@LarsonDavisPCB 11 ай бұрын
If the times you are interested in are overlapping, as in your example above, you could run the meter for the full measurement time (8am to 6pm). Then you could view the results in the included G4 Utility Software and use the exclude data feature to look at each time period individually. Exclude data preserves the original measurement and shows the modified measurement results as well. This is useful when performing a what-if type analysis. You can also experiment to get an idea of how potential noise control solutions will affect user noise dose. See our article linked here for more information: larsondavis.com/learn/industrial-hygiene/using-noise-measurements-to-plan-noise-controls

WTF ? How is the ambiant noise around 100db ? Shouldn't it be around 60 or 70 in a desert kind of place ?
@LarsonDavisPCB
@LarsonDavisPCB 9 ай бұрын
It is correct that the actual noise floor of the area is lower than what is shown with this video. The combination of using microphones designed to measure very loud impulsive noise and measuring peak levels makes it so the measurement system is accurate at very high sound pressure levels, but limits its ability to measure low noise levels. Typically a different setup with a larger microphone would be used for an ambient noise measurement in a situation like this.

Dear Sirs. The video is great, but it is possible to see a video of the 824 model .... I have the old model, I need to do a cabin measurement and I can't download the timer measurement. Please could you help me with that function however on your website there is no video or even an explanation of how to use the mode manual.

well...what's not even addressed here is not just the Db levels..but repeated, sustained gunfire. I live about 1/2 mile from a gun range..Db levels are about 75-90db's but the real issue is not JUST the noise level, but the repeated gunshots. On any given day the shooters at the range will shoot 2000-4000 rounds per day, everyday and it's common to have days with even more rounds fired. I can tell you, that it's swful to live anywhere near that noise.... but If you recorded that gun noise, and played it back in the neighborhoods where the shooters actually live....they would not tolerate that for even one minute, We have to listen to this crap for 9 hours a day, 7 days a week. So go ahead, let'e hear your excuses.

This is a well done video. One item that was not discussed regarding peak level measurements is the slew rate for the preamplifier and the meter. If the slew rate is not sufficient, then the peak amplitude will be underestimated. I am glad that they show how to set up the meter for the measurements. It would be helpful if other companies provided similar video documentation for using their equipment.
