Great and amazing tutorial! Understood everything! Just one small question, the assets started appearing black (or without a texture) after importing them as .USD with the set variant node, although this "bug" is only present on Houdini VK view, when changing to Karma XPU/CPU I can see the textures perfectly, guess this is a bug? Using Houdini Apprentice 20.5.410 Loved the tutorial! Thank you so much!!!

Interesting video, but I can't endorse this set-up. It's totally unrepresentative of reality and not accurate with usd logic, i think. To begin, we need to build each element separately, to have one component builder per element, and each element has its own usd output with its own layers. Then, we build the assembly by referencing all previously saved elements, and we proceed with layout, lighting and rendering... :)

thank you for your input! You're absolutely right, and I appreciate the insight. However, this is just a demonstration of the Component Builder and Variant functionality. I might consider recording a separate video to cover the points you mentioned in detail. Stay tuned!

I've been learning houdini and I actually understand everything you did. You should make more videos like these. Maybe add some compositing at the end? (Nuke or davinci)
