I think that the ZBT is an unnecessary complication of the design at the expense of reliability. The ZBT does not provide any real advantages that would be useful when working with a knife. I am quite happy with a small blade play on the OTF. Just as no one has any complaints about the slide play on pistols. In addition, I do not want to waste time adjusting the knife. One of the reasons I switched to OTF from manual folding knives is that I was tired of adjusting the screw every time for satisfactory action.
@nfitzsimКүн бұрын
@@yuriistetsenko5948 completely fair perspective. I’ll agree that there’s no real negatives to some slight play, but the knife just feels sturdier with no blade play which makes my monkey brain happy. And you could always tune the ZBT to have just the slightest blade play and I’m sure it would be dead reliable (or at least as reliable as any normal OTF)

@nfitzsim8 күн бұрын
@@bsodmike it’s the first time in recent memory I’ve felt a Microtech was worth the retail price. I think it’s well worth the $389 I paid. This ball clip has a nice amount of tension instead of the usually crazy tension the ball clips have. Size of the knife is great for me, and the zero blade play is fantastic once adjusted properly. I haven’t had a Gen 3 Scarab 2, but from what I hear those are basically an easier to deploy version of the previous generation. I don’t think those have the ZBT mechanism yet.

I love how simple the solution is for blade play, though I'm sure it took some design tinkering to work out. The one thing I don't love overall is that the new clip designs are no longer deep carry, I think I'd have been fine with the old style glass breaker and old clip. Maybe someone will make deep carry clips that'll work with this design.
@nfitzsim10 күн бұрын
@@EvilSSP I’m thinking they got rid of the old style glass breaker in the interest of cost. It’s another operation tapping a hole in a direction there nothing else is done in. So reduced mfg time and therefore cost. I know Maverick Customs makes Gen 3 CT clips, I bet he’s working on them for these too. Just be careful google searching I know there’s a few fake sites out there trying to scam people

Getting mine tomorrow! Just curious, could you explain the “50%” lockup being “good enough”? Do you not want full engagement? What happens if you went a few more teeth?
@nfitzsim12 күн бұрын
@@ConnorGregory-m3h so they specifically say in the tuning instructions not to tune for full lockup. I figure if you have full lockup there’s probably a small degree of blade play. And on the 50% throw I kind of half assed it anyway so I bet normal lockup is more like 75% on this tune
@mystyleandmore319211 күн бұрын
So I just took the knife apart, and I tried to do what you said because I kind of felt a tiniest amount of movement from side to side if I did it really hard so I tried to adjust it out of curiosity and I realized that when I did it at 50% lock up it would fail to open most of the time and once it got to like 90% that’s when it started to work every time. This could just be little tiny tolerance between Knives and every other knife is in a way technically a drop different than the other so yeah lol that’s that. Good luck guys and I’m sure we will all get used to tuning are knives, especially with how many ZBT Microtech’s are come in the upcoming future😬 prepare your wallet!!! Lol
@nfitzsim11 күн бұрын
@ thanks for sharing! Each knife will be subtly different, I think the important thing is tuning it click by click to get a solid lockup. I said this earlier to someone. Usually when you get a folder you need to spend some time tuning the pivot screws and the stop pins and each knife is different. For me this is just a part of that process added to an OTF
