Hello. Great video! What is the weight of the boat (including all the equipment but excluding the weight of passengers) ?
@inshorefishingoz3 ай бұрын
Bare hull is light - 117kg. Motor is the lightest 4 stroke in its class - 58kg (plus power tilt etc). Then throw in 100kg for all the mods and gear at a guess. Being lithium, the batteries are less than 1/3 weight of equivalent lead acid batteries and keeping the ply down to 9mm really saved some weight. Biggest weight item is the dual fuel tanks if full. My guess is between 250-300kg.

Great video mate. Just a question, why eva foam over marine carpet? I am starting to explore tinnies the same size as you and have seen a mix out there. Also for the holsters you made from PVC, did you just get pvc and use a heatgun to mould it?
@inshorefishingoz6 ай бұрын
I like the foam much better. I think it looks better, easier to clean and doesn’t get hot. I had to remove the carpet to seal the ply as it didn’t appear sealed from factory - so much easier to use foam to replace it.
@inshorefishingoz6 ай бұрын
Yes, the additional pcv rod tubes added to the Kmart rod holder just heated with heatgun and a beer bottle wedged in top to get the flare. Dremel and hacksaw for the cutouts.

It was just a lift onto & off the roof. Setup was done near the car and then Railblaza cart used to get it to the water. There is a method to use the Railblaza cart upside down on the back of the car (sedan) and roll the kayak up onto the roof. I did use that method near the end before the upgrade to the Hobie (and boat trailer).

Awesome design mate nice to see some new vids, just wouldn’t it be nice if watersnake made a electric motor that is designed like a bow mount but the unit is turned around to fit to the stern of the boat/kayak we could then simply control it by the remote and maybe even use the spot-lock feature how good would that be on a kayak.
@inshorefishingoz11 ай бұрын
Thanks buddy. You’re right there. Just watched the latest kayak mod video from @tinyboatnation featuring an aftermarket gps / control unit that could be added to do the job. Would have saved alot of thinking on how to be able to drop the motor down the slide and pin it in forward facing position.
@jmaussieadventures884911 ай бұрын
@@inshorefishingoz I think I am going to buy a bow mount electric motor fit it on the stern of my yak and just use it in reverse haha I think it would work.
@inshorefishingoz11 ай бұрын
It it easy to turn the head unit around - a single bolt, so it runs forward. Some guys remote the head unit. I always tried to keep the cabling to motor as short as possible so remoted the potentiometer and kept the controller as close to the motor as possible.

The transom mount on the motor comes with it. The mount on the kayak is hand made with thick structural beam ply that I had offcuts of, and some 1" marine ply that I bonded together from memory. I marine varnished and used stainless fittings.

I traded up to a Hobie Pro Angler after around a year - the stability allowed standup fishing more easily, but it is an investment I wouldn’t have made without this kayak first. Hey mate nice rig, where do u mount your transducer
@inshorefishingoz Жыл бұрын
This kayak has a covered transducer bay in the bottom of the hull. The trick was how to mount it though - I think I originally used strong double sided tape to mount the bracket to hull. I then swapped it to cable ties to the baseplate.

Did you cut the front compartment off? How did you go with keeping the water off the yak? Found that the water do filled up at the back.
@inshorefishingoz2 жыл бұрын
I did cutout the front well. I found the front well hatch seals well enough that I never had in issue with enough water getting into the hull to concern me even when swamped over the bow from wash. I did use the scupper plugs and carried a big sponge to bail out anything in the cockpit if concerned.

Love the lithium battery set up thats how u do it ! not sure why people keep buying lead acid.. they produce way less power , heavy, more expensive per effective wattage output and does not last long ..for its lifetime usage and it takes longer time to charge!
@inshorefishingoz2 жыл бұрын
Agreed - Lithium weight savings and depth of discharge are a material difference. Initial cost can be an issue - I managed to source all materials and a spot welder for around the same or a little less then buying one. I did find out later that I had been ripped off on non-original cells, but was still getting great duration. Since then, have built an even bigger battery for the motor and repurposed this one for all the accessories.

She is Beautiful!! Caught my attention because, I have a 120 pdl 33" wide. Same hull, deck, and tankwell design as your kayak. I run the Bixpy j2 motor, attached to my drop down blade rudder which is toe controlled. I have my spare Bixpy battery mounted behind my seat, and a 12V Cabela's battery, inside my battery box with my usb's/VM/12V plug. That runs my FF and bow light's. And I run my 48" led 360 light on the stern gear track. With me at 5ft 7" she moves around 5mph. Which is perfect speed getting to my spots, totally hands free. Beautiful shot in the morning with the fog, pure serenity out there. 🙏 🎣

I've been out on 10hr trips, and covered areas, i didn't know existed. I looked into other motors, but there $1800 and go much higher. And on a kayak 4 to 5, mph is a safe speed.. Especially when we're maybe 3 ft off the water.I love my PDL drive and my paddle, for exercise, or sneaking up on whatever species you target. Good luck bri, stay safe.. 🎣 😎 🙏

Where is transducer mounted ?
@willgriffiths14102 жыл бұрын
Yes good question. I have the exact same yak and am looking at purchasing the Garmin Striker 4 plus, however I want to understand how to mount the transducer in this yak. Has he installed it within the area that can be accessed underneath the body? I guess so. It would be great if he can reply and confirm this, maybe even explain how he has done that.
@scotthadler64902 жыл бұрын
@@willgriffiths1410 I fitted my mates up recently with a striker 5. There’s a space under the yak where a transducer can be fitted it took 10 mins.
@inshorefishingoz2 жыл бұрын
Exactly guys - this kayak has a transducer box under it. It doesn't have screw points in there though, so I first used strong exterior grade double sided tape to mount it in there, but I think I then changed it to cable tying to the cover. What I did do though was use the cable glands into the front well (which I cu out) to then run the cabling into the front well and back out for battery / transducer cable. Kept things much neater.

How have u put the motor mount on the back
@inshorefishingoz2 жыл бұрын
I made up a mount out of marine ply, using the rudder mounting hole and because of the way I designed it to wedge either side of the hull, there were no holes in the hull there. That didn't stop me making plenty of big holes elsewhere - including cutting out the front well!
