Riding in sandals is probably not a good idea. Also, how big was the pinecone that you dropped the bike?
@twowheeltim2 ай бұрын
Elaine is a pretty conservative rider, so the sandals were no big deal. I had on low top hiking shoes. The pinecones in that area get pretty big. The one I hit was around the size of a large grapefruit. Although, had I been paying attention and not filming with one hand and riding with the other, 1) I would have likely avoided it, or 2) been able to ride through it. Because I was careless, however, I chose option 3, I ignored it while riding one-handed and crashed. 🤣 I only had a few minor scrapes, though, so I was lucky.

Nice video, thank you. I recently purchased a used e-bike that is very good quality durable e-bike not your average cheap ones, however the previous owner did not take care of it and it was used every day for food deliveries.. first thing I noticed is that one of the spokes were missing! I replaced it myself, and after a short time another one broke off, so I replace that also... I wasn't sure if this was an issue with my particular bike because it has over 8,000 miles, but judging from your video it seems to be a common acutance and part of owning an e-bike if you riding it regularly?! I wonder if there is a better solution to this!
@twowheeltim4 ай бұрын
@@yash_ar Thank you for the positive feedback! 👍🏻 Breaking spokes isn't really exclusive to ebikes. Wheel truing on any quality bike/ebike is something that should be done with an annual tuneup. But spokes will start breaking more frequently over time. The only real way to combat this is to have the wheel rebuilt when it gets to a point that you're breaking spokes every couple hundred miles. Of course, there are so many variables that contribute to wheel wear and tear: bike weight, rider weight, terrain, wheel and spoke quality (or lack of), etc. A key thing to remember is that using good quality spokes is important, and understanding spoke tension and keeping wheels true will prolong spoke life. I suck at truing wheels, so I always leave it to the pros! 😆

@twowheeltim5 ай бұрын
I bought mine back in 2021 for $54.99 (still have the receipt 🙂), and at that time Burley sold the thru axle in a 12x1.5, 197mm. But you also needed the Thru Axle Flat Spacer for an additional $1.00. It looks like now they have a 172-178mm that includes the flat spacer for $59.99, but you likely wouldn't need the spacer. The only other option I see is the 229mm, which would be way too long because the threads would extend well beyond the threads in the drop out.

Hi Tim, I ended up getting the Biktrix Ultra Eagle 2.0 and loving it all the way. I wouldn't mind getting a handlebar with more rise and an adjustable stem but I'm not sure the cables are long enough to get that done. Any thoughts? I'm a little more hunched over than I would like for long rides. I might have to check with Biktrix. Also wanted to ask you about your motor, have you opened it up and checked the grease or cleaned and re-greased yet? There are a lot of videos that say they are nearly void of any grease when people open them up so I do worry a bit.
@twowheeltim Жыл бұрын
Congratulations! That's great, and I'm glad you're loving it. I've always been a cyclist and am quite used to a slightly stretched geometry due to riding road bikes. I've seen a lot of people comment on and buy those Biktrix A-Bars, but those are way too extreme for me. With those bars, you would very likely need to change out all your cables. If I were to look for something slightly higher, I'd start with a fairly traditional riser bar that you should be able to find at any bike shop, but definitely on Amazon. I would just want to be able to feel the height and width before I purchased them. Depending on how high of a riser bar you get, you may not need to change out your cables. I know on my Ultra Beast 2 there is plenty of cable to rise about another 2 inches. And often times small adjustments like that make the difference you need. As far as the motor, I did pop the cover off at around 900 miles to check it out after hitting some water, and it looked fine. I'm at about 1,200 miles now, but I have yet to clean and repack the motor. It's still running great and it never feels like it's overheating.

My pleasure! I've flatted 3 times in the 2 1/2 years since I installed these tires, and all 3 times it was the rear tire. Given my weight, the weight of the ebike, and just how notorious my area is for glass and other debris in the bike lanes and on paths, that's a great ratio in my opinion. Also, none of the 3 flats were caused by glass. It has always been a type of thicker nail, like a fence post nail or roofing nail. Thus, I'd say comparatively speaking, no, they don't puncture easily. I hope that helps. 👍🏻

A very informative review. Thanks for taking the time. Question for you: I've spent a couple weeks now doing the extra research you suggest to find a carrier that will accommodate my two 70 pound fat-tired ebikes and be approved for RV motorhome and towed vehicle use. The availability of a ramp woul be nice too. That narrows it down to only a few that I could find, the 1 up being one of them. Most of the others mentioned below in the comments don't meet my criteria. Have you found any that might fit the bill for me in my circumstance?
@twowheeltim Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you found this helpful. Unfortunately, I personally have not found another rack that quite fits the bill. To be completely honest, if I could do it all over again I would have researched dual-motorcycle hitch racks on Amazon. The downside is that you would need to use tie-down straps to secure them, but when the rack arm started to bend on my 1-Up I needed to use my tie-down straps ANYWAY! 😆 If the eBikes are big enough, and it sounds like yours are, tie-down straps are no big deal. And the good thing about motorcycle racks and Amazon are the price and return policy. If you're doing long RV trips, this could be a more secure alternative for you both physically and emotionally? 🤷🏼♂️ Best wishes!

That's a bummer. I actually made this video about 2 years ago and have tried the Bakcou solar panel to charge, and the Jackery 1500 to charge, since this video. People have suggested building a solar panel setup with charge controller and how much cheaper it is, but quite honestly I'm not that technically savvy and really don't have the time to go down that road. 🤷🏼♂️
@dogishappy0 Жыл бұрын
@twowheeltim I'm sure I could buy a voltage converter and make it work... but I'm charging my bike via solar either way, so the efficiency of DC to DC charging isn't really needed. I might as well just stick with the charger that came with the bike.

The Backou is nice because of its size and the fact that it can plug directly into the ebike's charging port. It's really best for riding and camping. If I'm actually camping and bringing the ebikes along, however, my Jackery 1500 is by far my favorite option. The downside is that it runs about 36 lbs not accounting for at least one solar panel (about 15 lbs each). I really like my Ecoflow Delta Mini at around 24 lbs, but it's only 852wh. The Delta 2 definitely provides more charging power and is only about 27 lbs. I also like that Ecoflow has the smart phone app you can sync up, but it's only good if you can connect the power bank to wifi. Ecoflow's solar panels are a couple pounds heavier and a little more cumbersome than Jackery's, but Ecoflow is a great choice. For me, I love my Jackery 1500, but mostly because I've purchased four different options now and it gives the most watt hours at 1544. I also have a Jackery 500, but it's really only good for simple top-offs from about 80-85%.
