Please note that the Scottish stone referred to is pronounced 'Skoon'! (Not like the item you might have with cream and jam called a 'Skonn' - rhymes with gone (or in some English pronunciation 'Sk-oh-n'. -rhymes with moan.)

Some remains are still visible by the River Lee hotel where the Western road terminus was. The support from the bridge is still in the river and some of the track is protruding from under the hotel foundation.

Well it seems the stone was kissed by the McCarthy's enough that the gift became inherited. I knew a McCarthy who could sell ice to eskimos and convince any woman he wanted that he was the love of her life, whether it was for the next 5 minutes of her life or the next 20 years. He had a charm and a way with words I had never known and havent seen since on that level.

Goodness! I was there in 1973. There was a booth, Ithink, where you paid a little fee, and then you set off on your own. The grounds were uncultivated. An elderly man held a blanket up pn the walltop for women who wanted to kiss the Blarney Stone. You had to lie on yor back and wriggle out over space to reach the Stone. Women generally wore dresses or skirts at that time, hence the blanket to cover their legs and possibly other bits.
