Saraphys, while I bemoan the unfairness you're clearly going through, I do thank you for letting those of us who have never done business with CGL know about this. It's one thing to mess up, but it's quite another to choose how you handle it. Because people will always remember how you made them feel about you and your actions. And post videos. And rile up fellow video watchers. Who will then remember and spread the word. Hope your day improves, Saraphys! Yours and Grim's! =)

The GMG is due out *real* soon... I cant remember the exact date off the top of my head, but that book will be the one with all the Templates in it... and as the PDF preview showed, they aren't slacking on detailing a creature Template! ...especially for new people, showing examples for each, and allowing the information to be absorbed in multiple ways... The one Im gonna be interesting in the most, is gonna be the "Creating Magic Items" section that the preview teased, but didnt show... I have *HIGH* hopes that that alone, will be the reason alot of the D&D crowd should be picking up ToV books... Also... Because Kobold Press understand, that an encounter with a creature is more fun when that creature is Stronger...not just by increasing its hitpoints. However! If you want some real roleplaying from a system that will force you to break all your bad, locked-in "D&D/Pathfinder/wargame" roleplaying habits...may I suggest Cypher System? 🤣
@mattlazer9022 ай бұрын
Kobold Press has honestly made a better 5e revision than Wizards. It blows my mind how shockingly amateur some of the design decisions are in DnD5.24e.
@saraphys55552 ай бұрын
Its not that shocking when you look at the simple facts... Jonathan Tweet, Skip Williams, and Monte Cook invented the d20 System when they went to WotC in 1998, so that it would be ready for use as the new System for D&D 3.0e. The Designers of D&D 3e/3.5e were people like the aforementioned...plus David Noonan, James Wyatt, Andy Collins, Richard Baker, David Cook, Jeff Grubb, Bruce Cordell, Sean Reynolds, Air Marmell, Wolfgang Baur, and there's undoubtedly some that I missed... Look at the last three books for "5e"... Include the 2024 PHB if you want... Aside from the fact that *none* of those designers work at WotC anymore...EXCEPT for James Wyatt...but is Wyatt even credited anywhere, anymore? And *THATS* the point... Crawford and Perkins were always Managers; so why is Crawford now the only listed Designer of D&D? But yes, KP Have made a better game out of the 5e d20 System, and so far, it is unsurprisingly impressive! ^_^
@mattlazer9022 ай бұрын
Very interesting. As a GM and an avid homebrew designer I've studied the 5e system inside and out. It seems like Perkins and this team really don't have a grasp on the system or what made it work or what its real flaws were. The 2024 design changes largely feel confused and misguided to downright embarrassing, but then I'm one who also believes the only driving reason for the changes in the first place was to more easily plug into a VTT. I have both the TOV books and can't wait for their Game Master's Guide. The subtle complexity of the fighter is especially impressive, and their weapon option system is excellent. The character creation system gets a chef's kiss.

I will debate that it's not broken, it depends on th party make up. I have been a dm for close to 20 and played most editions, pathfinder is my fav., but kolbold press worked hard making 5e for them and had to change it last min because of wotc and did fine. Just like second edition, they gave you some stuff and told the dm to make it up. That is fact. This one is just lazier, I get it but it's fine.

The removed the race that protects the infinte staircase case, just glancing but haven't seem them mentioned once. You saw how racist the new mexican orcs are. It's wild how they change stuff to be woke but it's just worse.

=) I never really took part in Eberon or knew much about the old settings (obviously). I think because I did homebrew everything I played 5e for YEARS and never had any problems. My experience with the lack of 'broken' in the system is likely because me and my players thru the years were just in the fantasy and I didn't have any min-maxers trying crazy builds or anything like that. Also none of us were ever online. Never played any books, never bought any save the core 3 in 2014. Never played before 3.5 - so maybe that's why my experience with it is so different from older generations. I never had particular loyalty to WOTC - I just kept playing my game quietly in my corner of existence, but I was certainly entertained to see wotc committing seppuku over the woke nonsense. I mean. . . just. . . *sigh*. I love Aq Inc and I love the DM and players IN those games. They do a entertaining show, and Jerry and Mike (also Anna and Xavier) do a great job of showcasing good player interactions/roleplay. However outside the show Crawford and Perkins both have said a lot of things that. . . well. . .ya. Not cool guys. Not cool. I respect Perkins DMing capabilities on camera especially and his years of experience as a DM but honestly that's about it. . .
@saraphys55553 ай бұрын
And thats the thing... 5E was my introduction to WotC D&D... before that I had only played TSR D&D through Basic and 2E. THAC0 was something my group was primed to learn, as we were still in high school at the time, so learning Maths wasn't a big deal. THAC0 still doesn't bother me so (though I do like to make the jokes!), though it was remembering the right rules that was my biggest issue. So yeah, I missed 3e and 4e...except for getting the 4E Eberron books, because it was just such a new "design"... Like comparing "Lilo & Stitch" to the rest of the Disney movies before it, especially when you're in the same position as Lilo... Eberron really clicked for me, as Indianna Jones, The Mummy, Pirates of the Carribean, and Sleepy Hollow were all favourite movies of mine. So I absorbed that lore with gusto... But yeah, outside of VISITING those official Setting Worlds with Spelljammer, my group played in our own Homebrew world.... at the time, inspired by the Anime "Slayers" (and a few other things). I think this is what heavily puts a negative shade on WotC for me... with AD&D, there were the mechanics for fighting and transactions; and then there were things you just put down, and they were entirely ROLEPLAYING points. I feel this AD&D thing of Descriptors is what brought about the "Rule of Cool", because that stuff was the "Rule of Roleplaying"...atleast, thats how we played. Mage's Musings might have to fact-check me on that! LOL! I guess thats what has set me off with 5E 2014 & 2024... There seems to be rules for things that there shouldn't be, because they're roleplaying; and there's little-or-no rules for things that absolutely should have rules. (like crafting custom magic items! Yes, if you still have your 3E DMG, easily use that...my 3.5 DM gifted me a spare 3.0E DMG of his for my birthday, so now if ToV doesn't have Crafting mechanics, Im just gonna pull those as-is... but thats a core feature that should be part of a DMG, and it doesn't exist in 5E...or 4E! And the number of times Iv seen people asking about a magic item, and their DM not allowing custom Magic Items because of balance!) ...oh, and everything seems to be geared towards giving Players superpowered power creeps...and leaving the DM to balance shit with no support. Sorry, as an Artificer fan, it annoys me that the class has been shafted by WotC in place of the stupid Warlock! TL;DR: Fuck the Warlock! LOL!

Pretty much yes. I raise my proverbial eyebrows when you say that there aren't any seppo politics (Greater American Empire and globalism) down undah, though.
@saraphys55553 ай бұрын
Oh, we get American politics plastered all over our screens here all the time...because the previous Liberal Government, allowed all our Media to be sold off to American companies... 10 is owned by CBS-Paramount 9 is Fairfax (Chumy with ol' NewsCorp) 7 is MSNBC and 2/ABC & SBS are Government Owned, but they're ACTUALLY now in the pocket of the Liberal Party, which means they're the tool of Scrotum-ball-face NewsCorp Media... Also, with "influencers" like Issac Butterfield, who is so Pro-American, he's practically a CIA asset pushing more people to be tolerable of American influence in Australia... Even though America 15 years ago overthrew our democratically elected government... Even though America sabotaged our Defence Force making us reliant on them for Vehicles now... Even though this is Australia, where we have universal healthcare and Workers Unions; the "East Coast" view is turning to one of a more broken-american system...where if you have money, you can see a doctor... To say nothing of the fact that we have dozens of political parties...not two...and we were never ment to be a 2-party System. Also, I would wager that the average Australian is more diverse in their opinion then to be catagorised by "left" or "right"... as my views can be seen as aligning with the Labor Party and Free Internet Piracy Party (formerly the Science Party). Did I answer that? Or did I rant and go off topic? I cant tell...LOL!

@@saraphys5555 My fault for taking that Right turn. I suppose with some effort you could draw an analogy of authentic Aussie culture being represented by what tabletop rpg culture should be like and the globalized extension of the Greater America Empire being WotC as catspaw of Hasbro :) My journeys through the undahdahk had a whole lot of conformity to the cosmopolitan managerial class. Huh, I only had legos for a little bit as a kid and I didn't really build much with them XD It's interested because I never thought of them as ttrpg items. We always used chess pieces from a traveler's chess set. That was the most successful I've ever been with dnd minis and terrain. Outside that it's just been theater of the mind and lots and lots of failed attempts to have a 'system' of mini/map/grid play. Majority of my time was ToTM
@saraphys55554 ай бұрын
Yeah, but Im an 80's kid, when Lego was cheaper, because of all those toxic plastics! :D LOL ...nah, it was because a $5-10 box usually had a build item (a cavern door, or a carriage), and then 5-odd minifigs... Yes, I'm absolutely with you on this. The old lego had its own style before it became an imitation of mass media, and that old style will always be what I think of as Lego... everything else being "other entertainment theme" using the Lego brand. I can't even find just the classic pieces anywhere, and that was even before I left the Western World. The continued existence of the corporation was prioritized over the purpose and essence of what it used to provide. Yes, on the broader point... exactly. But DnD still has Basic Fantasy and the OSR. Every time I see the excessive merchandizing, online as well with all the digital production that's being put into running TTPRG online these days, I see loss and distraction. I guess that I take it even farther and just want to use dry erase boards and printed paper cutouts for characters and monsters and let people use their imaginations as much as possible.
