I’m an only child but I don’t have crippling loneliness like other people say. I’m also not spoiled. My parents are my best friends I do everything with them. I am only 12 so I don’t really worry about them die but the thought of it is still in the back of my mind.sometimes I am embarrassed though being an only child because it’s like everyone I know has a sibling and I don’t. But other than that the only child life is awesome!

I am not an only child. I have an older sister and i have no clue what it’s like to be an only child but I feel like most people make it seem like having a sibling will make life perfect and if you don’t have siblings you’ll be miserable. Having a sister i think the pros are that you always have a playing buddy, you can rely on each other especially for emotional support in difficult times, and eventually you have a bigger family to hang out with. So, overall having siblings is nice but it also comes with cons. In my case I learnt to rely on my sister for a lot of things which makes me feel incompetent at times when I’m alone. We were antisocial and have no friends because we only preferred each other and felt we didn’t need other friends (also we were homeschooled). We are not as independent as we should be since we grew up co dependent of each other. My mom treated us like we were twins and didn’t allow us to each develop our own personalities. As adults when I tried making friends my sibling acted jealous and made me feel guilty about trying to befriend other people. Siblings are nice but parents have to allow their kids to develop their own personalities and be independent.

It’s show gratifying, but sad to know and proof, and when I say proof, I mean in a court where people can’t lie that if I was an only child right now, the medical community would have one less capitalistic dollar but that might go above some of you peoples heads

Stop saying you were independent…your parents looked over you every step. You only children are anything BUT independent, even into adulthood. And being able to play alone is not a huge asset…little wierd honestly. And your parents were selfish, they left you alone when they died. They wanted to build you in the image they never achieved and deprived you of siblings focusing on you, and your achievements to impress their friends. They had zero foresight for your longterm family.

I remember the last Canadian show that I actually legit like was a little known show called Young Drunk Punks by one of the Kid in the Hall creators (I think it was Bruce LOL). It gave a very "Community" vibe were instead of taking place in a community college, it was set in a Alberta suburb during the 80s. Pretty funny show, but sadly only lasted one season. Like WTF? All the good shows gets cancelled in one season while all the garbage gets multiple season?

Being an only child wasn’t too bad of an experience for me. I grew up with all my parent’s attention and I had a lot of fun playing alone with my toys. I also grew really close with my cousins since I didn’t have any siblings. But I find that now I’m older, I can feel a bit lonely when having no siblings. Also I can be a bit selfish at times whereas when I was younger I was more humble. I wouldn’t necessarily call it being “spoilt” tho. Being an only child has its pros and cons I guess.

Only child here had an amazing childhood never wanted siblings, didn't like to share my parents either. But as I get older and especially after my Father passed i feel like having a sibling would help me deal with my emotions and situation.

Best thing: you get all love from the parents,

When people would find out I was an only child, they would say "you must be spoiled". My mom's reply was "she's not spoiled, but I sure am." This was because I would clean house, do the laundry, and in the summer I mowed the lawn and other outdoor things. I also made dinner before she and Dad came home from the office and did the dishes after they left. Maybe that's why I got a little burnt out on housework after I was married. And finally, people would say I would get everything when my parents died. Yes, and I got 100% of the responsibility, too. Advice: as kids, don't open gifts in front of others because they'll comment how spoiled you are.

If you feel lonely, depressed, that you have no one to go to, that’s not because of your lack of a sibling, it’s because your parents failed you. They should have prepared you to handle those situations and they should be there for you through them. I have an ex step brother I had for 3 years and a half brother I never lived with. Luckily my step brother and I remained close but not until our adult years. My mom died and my dad moved away when I was 16. I had to learn on my own that MY happiness does not depend on others. It depends on myself. If you’re depressed, lonely, or sad, a sibling won’t fix it. Go to therapy or reach out to someone you trust.

I have many friends and cousins that I can call and cry when I feel sad. I think you are lonely not because you are the only one. Even if having siblings, so what? Canadian shows that aren't cbc always are shallow copies of american content. And is Schitts creek really Canadian? the 3 main actors were living in LA when it started. Not Canada. Guess what? Every "Canadian" music star leaves after their first hit album Neil Young hasn't really lived in Canada since 1969, he lives in Cali. The point of the crtc was to make sure we had canadian writers and actors, but an american can come to canada and become a canadian quickly and that's who the writers are, they are americans who became Canadian.

My conclusion: you always think about what you haven’t got and what it would be like. It’s not about being an only child or having 10 siblings, it’s about what type of parents and or support networks you have/had. Stop focusing on negatives, this world encourages you to have a negative outlook, be stronger, focus on the good, the now and the positive choices you make based on your individual circumstances. It doesn’t help anyone if you put yourself in a box of misfortune. Compare yourself to those that have had it worse.
