It had a feeling. In a dark room my best mate, who owned an A500, put the disk in, and the sound (on a fairly good speaker) went on, then the animation started (f.e. Platoon). Goosebumps, man. Like a cinematic trailer. My next machine that could reach NEARLY the same effect, was an Xbox 360. But still, that wasn't unique. The Amiga was 'the one', like Neo in Matrix.

@@DavePoo2 It was mainly extreme lack of time... I probably needed 48h day back then. Now I have time and my first computer was C128, that's why I give it a go with assembler (after I did few C128 BASIC example in Graphic modes) Assembler is just way faster. It took me a while, but it's fun even if I am probably the only visitor on my webpages where everything is documented 😁 That's okay. The Amiga was the first multimedia machine, before the concept really existed. If the internet had been available/affordable a few years earlier, or indeed if CD-ROM drives had hit the market just a few years earlier, then in both cases the Amiga would likely have been the best-placed machine to take advantage.

Thanks for disclosing this power supply, I used such a power supply with a 1541 II some time ago, after a while the drive stopped working, both the power LED and the drive LED lit up, switching the drive off and on didn't help, the LEDs both lit up, the drive was unresponsive until I connected a real 12V power supply to the 1541 II and it worked correctly again, I advise against this purchase. I'd rather have a normal new power supply for the C64 and a new real 12v power supply for the drive.

I think the overly complex hardware was its achilles heel in the end. The one feature I seriously think was important was the multitasking. The sound chip is a nice example of how an early idea ended up being a hurdle. We had a Mac, and all it had was 22kHz 8-bit sample sound in mono, and a bit later it became 44kHz stereo, but the positive thing was it triggered software synthesis. I found the fixed 2 channel left 2 channel right sound of the Amiga highly annoying, especially as tons of games struggled with keeping the sound running (Xenon Megablast had no music on the Amiga), or those nasty left-only explosions and such. Same thing with display. My SE/30 had no fancy blitters, just a 512kB display buffer VGA card that could do 640x480 in 256 colours (paletted), or 1024x768 in 16 colours, but it made the OS look way better, I could upgrade that Mac to OS 8.1, which brought very advanced stuff like video-codes, True Type, PostScript, Colorsync and software MIDI. The Mac was not the best gaming machine, although Beyond Dark Castle holds up very well in B&W, and Prince of Persia is still the best version of the game today, but on the other hand, the NES was better at that than the Amiga (including music), and the PC Engine in 1987 was totally overpowering the Amiga when it came to games with tons of massive sprites, and one of the finest 6 channel wavetable sound chips with stereo pans ever made.

Dang!!! This is so helpful. I still have my original 2000 I bought when they first came out. Even back then I only kinda sorta knew what I was doing as I pretty much just played games. I would actually have been better served by an Amiga 500. Didnt realize how expensive it was gonna be to really "trick out" my 2000. Then along came the PC clone surge and the 2000 went back into its box! Now that Im back into Amiga's and have acquired several 2000's, 1000's, and 500's this refresher course is just what I need.

What made the Amiga so Awesome, well 1st of all it was 1000 times better then what DOS could do back then, plus if you needed to run programs MS programs when the A1000 first came out it could do it without costing you an Arm, Leg and butt to buy it. I paid 1495 for everything I needed to run not only Amiga Stuff but the Transformer to run Lotus 123, Dbase II and III, etc. and it got me through since I was a Lotus 123 and Dbase programmer. plus it plalyed games, videos etc. Look what MS is doing today, I kicked MS out the door 2 years ago, and I am doing completly great without it.

Tried to use IMG of the SD card available online, tried many SD cards, all ok under winuae, but none of them bootable in real amiga... So trying your method - the only thing i've noticed is - after when you add hardrive and want to click "properties" then "full drive RDB mode" is not available in newer versions of Winuae... tried 5, 4.10, and finally one 4.4 which has been used by you here...

One note about the sprites: there were only 8 of them. But that is per scan line. You could use the same sprite again and again down the screen, often using the copper to set the hardware registers, so that the CPU put the different positions into the copper list, instead of directly into the hardware register. The copper is a very simple co processor that could do only two things: wait or store a value to a register. The same goes for color. If you use only 16 colors, you are free to modify the palette as often as you want. It was common to use the copper to modify the palette for different positions on the screen and make bakground color different from line to line by changing the background color one per line. It as an amazing computer with well designed and "balanced" hardware. To bad Commodore did so bad job owning it. The next gen chipset should have been out in 1987, and development should just continued. With backwards compatibility it would have developed gradualy and probably still been here today.

I checked the schematic and started probing with a multimeter. Then I watched your video and thought: Could it be that my spare power switch had the same issue? I then found an old Nokia modem that had the same power switch but red instead of blue. I soldered it to my C64 and the issue went away! So it was the power switch after all. I wonder if it's possible to clean these power switches to get them working again?

This too, but if u consider that Turrican 1 fourth level (the penultimate) is also an alien-like level with no music (only creeping wind music that set the atmosphere) similar in many aspects to Turrican II fifth level, it seems that Turrican 2 almost copied the fourth level from Turrican 1, and that fourth level in T1 is an underground sewer sort of level under the final Tower that u have to escalate up, so is much more coherent. In Turrican 2 it seems they just added the alien level for no reason, and if u already finished a lot of times Turrican 1 u will be underhelmed by the final level in Turrican 2, the tower in the last level of Turrican 1 was much better in my opinion. So i like both games very much, but there are some aspects in Turrican 1 that i like better

I loved this program back in the 90's on my Amiga 500 with a homeade MIDI interface going to a Roland PMA-5 sound module and recording to a Tascam 4 track cassette deck! Switching from Workbench to Windows XP, I went with FruityLoops around the first or second version, and the interface still hasn't changed much, hench I still use FL because I was raised on Bars and Pipes for MIDI composition transferable to current VST, as opposed to someone using a modular rig approach for live performance modes. But back then, Trackers that wrote MED and MOD files with embedded audio clips and demo scene music was widely popular, and a lot of people were using an early version of ProTools for Mac being the standard at the time. It was just too crusty, I'm sorry to say. Is there anything out there endowed with the pleasantries of modern gaming and none of the frustrations of the old days, which might also be considered seminal? Something called Neon Abyss often gets mentioned but it looks more like a 2D platformer to me.

I settled on something called Arx Fatalis. I already had a couple of other suggestions; Moonlighter and Enter the Gungeon, which are more Legend of Zelda than Eye of the Beholder, but I suppose they still qualify on the basis of grinding your way through dungeons.. There's also one called Legends of Grimrock 2 which looks every bit the successor to the Eye of the Beholder school, so I might come back for it if I don't get bored of the whole enterprise before then.

I think the assign in the user-startup and the absolute reference to the header-file make more sense than your new solution. With the way you have set it up now, the header file always has to be in the parent folder of your working directory you are working in. So every time you set up a new project in its own directory, you have to re-point the software to the correct location of the header-file. Unless you are happy to create all your projects in subfolders of the devpac directory. Similar for your Include-Folder: You have located it in the "parent of parent" directory with the //, so again you will have to update the setting for each new project, probably. So having an assign to an "Include-2.0:" Volume makes sense if you want to begin to regularly work on new projects. Or even use something compatible with the NDK like "vincludeos3:"
@DavePoo2
@DavePoo2 Ай бұрын
Yep, I probably will setup volumes for the include folder, or I could just use the absolute path to on the drive (so still wouldn't require changes to user-startup). But either way, I just wanted to show that you don't have mess in the user-startup to get this assembling and you would definitely need to remove that .gs reference as it would use that over any other includes you might specify.

To drown my sorrows I watched bits of some of your older ones. I was surprised to see that, until perhaps 9 or 10 months ago, not a single one of today's regular livestream viewers were about. At least if they were, I didn't see them. It's almost like a travelling entertainer of old, passing through town after town for a night or two before moving on again, except it's the viewers who pass through. It's almost poetic. See you next time, when ever that may be.

now that I think about it you probably used way too little vanish for it to have any effect - you only added one scoop to a liter of water. sodium percarbonate is only around 30% hydrogen peroxide so you only got like less than 20 grams of H2O2 at best so it was less than 2% solution. the problem with using powder stain removers is that they create a lot of sodium carbonate (soda ash) which makes the water very cloudy and foamy which probably doesn't help UV light to go through. liquid and gel cleaners seem to be working just fine, I used them to whiten an old router

I think the settings in the "Amiga Early Startup Control" also apply if the operating system routines are bypassed, because they are applied before the disk boots. Many old disk routines doesn't accept a CPU-cache in any form. Nevertheless, a fast 68000 Amiga (40 MHz ACA500, 80 MHz emulator) does not cause any problems with most games, as they are not synchronized directly with the CPU as with modern computers. Older, most 8 Bit computers/consoles doesn't work (or it runs proportionaly faster/slower) if the clock rate is changed. You can test it also on the emulator, try 1.1 MHz (must be above 1MHz to accept), you will be wonder how many 2D-games will still run better than expected (because of the custom chips), and 80 MHz doesn't matter. The 7MHz CPU ist over powered on most games:)
