I’d like to ask Emmylou if this brilliant musical connection ever reminds her of how and where her music with Gram might have played out, and I’m happy she got this second chance.

A very good rendition. It's more "commercial" but I like PP&M's version more.

I love them both, both of them are etched in my heart, Mark Knofler with Dire Straits and Emilou Harris has grown on me she is a talent with soul, I love country and rock-'n'-roll, I admit to liking regea and soul, country and punk, so I'm a mixed up soul, still love them both

This song was used when I was in the Army as a marching cadence jody. Over 40 years later, it always takes me back to Fort Leonard Wood.

Beautifully sung version of the song. The story is fiction, Darcy Farrow is a song written by Steve Gillette and Tom Campbell, and first recorded in 1965 by Ian & Sylvia on their album, Early Morning Rain. Gillette released his first recording of it in 1967 on his eponymous album, Steve Gillette. Another fine cover may be found by Iain Matthews.

Somehow I can see why they didn't achieve the huge success of some of their contemporaries. I think it has to do with slightly strident timbre of Ian Tyson's voice. Their guitar arrangements and harmonies were all great but for me their sound isn't as appealing as that of Peter, Paul and Mary.

Never mind who is the greatest of all time no one can touch your heartstrings like Mark Knopfler. Privileged to have gone to school in the year below him at Gosforth Grammar. Love his music.

A fantastic song which could not be improved in any way. The tune, lyrics, singing and guitar playing are all of the best possible quality. Truly one of the best and most moving performances of any song I have ever heard.
