Only a few weeks ago I had never heard of Cornelius. I watched a clip featuring Kimbra, from New Zealand, on a show called "What's in my bag?" where artists select a number of records and discuss why they have significance for them. I listened to a few Cornelius songs, some of which were okayish, and others a bit meh....but this. This one is special. Kind of reminds me of Massive Attack and to some degree A Perfect Circle.

The song was written about 6 children who were killed by their father (as well as the mother and himself). This was at the end of WWII in Nazi Germany.

Lyrics My spine just squinted and my eye is weak I can't find peace in a form of speech My views change color red hot, ice cold Black ain't a color happiness ain't gold It's hard for me to feel Normal easy to feel free It's hard for you to understand If you can't feel me I ain't in a western in a way I can grasp I try to hold on to something that is fast If something is a way of Saying you don't know Then a name is just a way of being visible My name is someone junior who is my dad Mama is a Catherine Anne Hoover And she's all that and a bag of crypt I'm a municipal and the mundane I try to keep weird keep away from the same I haven't read an outline on How to pass youth Rather than get passed I pass doobs I'm out I'm in it's hard to Live in this given culture All the hers and hims All of the rats, snakes And youth vultures around My heart's out of shape and My head's in a cast I try to hold on to something that is fast If something is a way of Saying you don't know Then a name is just a way of being visible

This video was recorded in Rosarito and Tijuana Baja California Mexico... i recognize almost every location... The beach scenes are in Playa La Mision, and some of those bits were recorded in that same highway just af few kilometers to the south. The Mariachi and trans show bits are from Avenida Revolucion in TJ.. not sure which bars since this video was made 12 years ago. im almost sure it was Mike's Bar or Latinos...also could be El Ranchero. A magical song with a magical video thats for sure.
