I get the feeling that most of the people praising this feature and wanting it back never actually played with it- or at least never played multi-player with it lmao Being restricted from running in other people's towns was such a pain! I want to go FAST. It's a cute idea but when it comes to gameplay, it just gets annoying. I'm much happier manually controlling where my paths are and not having to worry about going off-path every so often!

Despite the board layouts being bad, I think the item mechanics on the board itself are still great. I do find using cheat codes to convert the teapots and banana junctions into regular choice junctions to fix infinites and makes them so much better. The minigames are still legendary.

So...mashing the A button is actually optimal, as unless everyone ahead of you rolls low, your odds of going first deminish as numbers are taken out of the equation.

I've played this game a ton too, but I never knew about those two duel modes that you can only access with another human player. I am curios if you'll ever do a follow-up retrospective on the Mario Party titles released after Hudson went away, and how they stack up compared to the classic titles.

I really wish the orb system from 6 and 7 returned in Jamboree as the hexes are a great edition but not enough to counter the high quantity of lucky spaces. Boo huts help but with more coin and star stealing orbs you can throw on a space, in my opinion will help with this issue.

I think you just had a very bad run of luck when it came to lucky spaces, especially for King Boo's Haunted Hideaway. I've gone entire games without seeing *ANYONE* land on it. There's only ever one space on the board that's a lucky space, and outside of Slowgo Candy you can't reliably try to hit it (and Slowgo Candy is not a guarantee on any board).

This is the least good of the Gamecube Mario Parties in my opinion, but I do like the things it tried to do differently.

I guess it would've been hard to do a traditional Mario Party on the GBA in 2005. But then again, Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green the year prior introduced the Wireless Adapater that got rid of the clunky link cables. Maybe if they'd had access to that, this game could've made the multiplayer experience better?

They replaced Coin Star with Orb Star specifically because orbs can now give you coins, and you can get coins for landing on orb spaces, on top of lots of board events making it easy to get a lot of coins.

It's weird: Even with all the flaws you and others have pointed out, I really like Mario Party 5, more than the other Gamecube Mario Parties. I suppose it's partially because of nostalgia, it was the last Mario Party I played in childhood, and the first I rediscovered as an adult (alongside 2).
