76 year old backyarder here with 1986 Holiday Rambler Monitor, 454. What necessary vacuum lines are kept? What about the (vapor?) line from the fuel tank, is it sealed or left open to air? Engine idles fast after rebuilding quadjet carb, vacuum leak? Are there economical tires that are safe? After cutting off air injection pipes to exhaust manifolds I machined plugs to drive in, will tack weld for security. Replaced PS pump, master cylinder, booster, water pump, smog stripped off, brakes 100 percent rebuild, new nickel copper lines, new brake hoses, rebuild calipers, One wire alternator coming to replace dual output Lestek, may refit bracket for two one wire alts. Push rod for fuel pump rusted, no full travel. So, temporary air cylinder will replace fuel pump spring for return exercise of rod to regain range of motion, run on temporary fuel tank/electric pump. I bit off a big chunk. Several months. Changing those big ass tires by hand. Budget operation. No grease fitting on u joints, UGH. Oil seep from either trans seal or rear main seal..............But I'm back in shape. :) Thanks for video.

The only line I kept was the line from the intake to the vacuum canister to run my heat controls.. Defrost/ Heat door. Everything else I capped off. You're high idle sound live an intake gasket under the carburetor.. 🔧

Your right to get rid of all that trash on the engine and it's somehow fun feels like cost went down and value of the vehicle went up. Nice video, did you say the valve stem should end up opposite the dot so that the wheel is semi balanced? I was gonna use balancing beads… but wonder if they’re even needed. Did you end up needing to balance the wheels further…after driving on the new tires? Thanks Frank
@MotorhomeGearhead6 ай бұрын
I lined it up with the dot because when they make it it's exactly °180 from the heaviest point. I never used anything to balance mine but I don't feel any (out of balance) feeling even at 75 MPH. I got lucky. I know if I needed to a Big Truck tire shop would balance it for $20 each if I took it off and brought them in. I know that beads don't kick in till 40MPH and it will shimmy bad at 35 around town till you hit the highway. Wheel weights are the best choice 🔧

There are electronics modules. One of them you must keep, it provides power to the electric fuel pump in the gas tank. It has "logic" so that if oil pressure goes to 0, that the fuel pump stops. That is an important safety measure if there is an accident or if the fuel line is dislodged during driving.

I had it made at the same place I had the tank filled. That's all they deal with is LP Filling. I just told them how long I wanted and they made it. The extend a stay also works. Any Gas T you put before your regulator will work and there you can put a quick connect on it for the (extend a stay) 🔧

Why on earth would you turn a liquid tube tank upside down. Thats the opposite of what you want to do and all youre doing is transferring vapor that way unless you took the tube out
@MotorhomeGearhead7 ай бұрын
In the video I mentioned that I switched the position of the valves and now I'm able to transfer the liquid part to the onboard tank. On the tank it says liquid and the other threaded hole says fill and the pickup tube is in the hole that says liquid and it stays there when I switched them 🔧

Yes. But when it's empty you have to swap the inlet and outlet valves with each other. (Same size threads and hole) And the new outlet will be in the spot that does not say (liquid). 🔧

I would get rid of that plastic fuel filter and run a metal one, would be good to also make a metal line going to the carb. I pulled all my smog crap off, rebuilt and tuned my quadrajet, full MSD ignition, full exhaust, and a carb spacer. About to do a low rise intake and who knows what else lol. Did you reuse your air filter assembly? If not I would be interested in buying it.

Just stumbled upon this, and really appreciate these videos. Was wondering about installing a ball valve before the regulator to isolate it during the liquid refill process? And basically, I could take say a #40 portable tank, flip it upside down, open the bleed valve slightly on the inboard tank to check for liquid indicating 80% capacity, then open the valves to fill. Thanks again.

Your video stopped at the point of looking under the rear of RV. How do you get the auto leveling system to work. Mine wont come on, no power indication and i cant find any documentation of how to activate or troubleshoot it. You have the same model as mine and I saw your front right leveler was down and I didnt know that about this one. Any help you can give, please do
@soulshine288611 ай бұрын
I have the same year and got the emission issue as well. Can you tell me how to engage the auto leveling system and how to make the proper sequence for turning it on. I believe someone replace the ignition switch and this is the room of the power problem. I can inject 12vdc at the back connector on the control device located on the left side of the dash panel. Once I do this I can hear what I believe is relays in the pump at rear of the back tires. My next move is to take my cheater battery and remove the connector at the air compressor and see if it works there and backwards troubleshoot from there. So any help you can give me, please do.

That towmotor tank is designed to be laying down with the slot with the hole facing down on the rim you had the tank sitting on like a gas grill tank. See the gas grill tank draw gas from the top for a grill. That's why generally when you refill the refillable 1lb cans you want the liquid so you flip those tanks upside down. But the industrial towmotor tank when laying down draws from the low spot on the tank with the pickup. That hangs down there. That's why towmotors don't have them standing vertically or upside down they have them running horizontal because they need liquid and need to draw that way. That's also why they are more convenient to refill from because they are designed for more liquid propane uses.
@MotorhomeGearhead Жыл бұрын
The tank I use has both of the valves switched but the pickup tube stays in the tank in the same spot . The valve with the shut off is then only picking up from the top of the tank. I then can use it to push liquid into the RV onboard tank when upsidedown and right side up I can use it as a regular tank like one off of a grill. They are nice to use because they are 8 gallons 🔧

Amazon has pretty good carburetors for them. I wouldn't go any bigger than a 600 CFM. Your engine has a (spread bore) carb on it so if you look up 600 CFM spread bore carburetor on Amazon you should find a good one. They are only held on by 4 bolts. Easy peasy 🔧
No. If the key is off no power goes to that switch

you can also use the plastic cork of a cheap childs magic marker, pull the cork shove it in the hoke and squeeze it in with channel locks then simply pull the lock off the plastic is soft an takes the shape, most people wont have a bullet.

Very dangerous. I am certified and do this for a living. Only thing that i will say is use the bleed on the house tank to purge more air off so the liquid/ gas pressure will bleed more. Just becareful and fyi, put a disclaimer on this video so IF something goes wrong while a person decides to do this, you wont get sued.

You have a shut-off between that and the regulator to keep the liquid from going through the regulator?
@MotorhomeGearhead Жыл бұрын
No I don't have a shut off before the regulator. The regulator automatically stops liquid from going through it anyway. Once you fill the tank any leftover liquid will turn to gas after your done. 🔧

How would you go about filling up a propane generator ?
@MotorhomeGearhead Жыл бұрын
The generator should have a tank and filling a tank with low pressure should easily be filled with a high pressure liquid 💦 as long as it has a line to fill it BEFORE the regulator. Because liquid will not go thr that 👍🔧

Winter is settling in fast and I need a quick fix until I am able to do something more permanent. I am wondering if you might do a video on something pertaining to that for us?? Thank you 😊
