Imagine playing an RPG and playing it the exact same way every time because "You have to recruit X character or you're not playing properly". All the people in the comments saying you HAVE to recruit Garrus are the reason we now have babymode RPGs with no actual choices. I've shot Wrex, left Liara in stasis all game, got everyone killed in ME2, romanced nobody, because I wanted to experience the consequences of actual choices, the entire point of the trilogy.
