The cost of real estate is more expensive than the most places in the US. (The West coast and NE cost are very expensive in the US). But homes in Mombasa are more than the US. I am shocked! How are people so rich in Kenya?? The salaries are not like the US but the cost of housing and even cost of living is very high. Likewise, I found out medical is also expensive. Maybe not as expensive as the US but compared to the average salaries it is very expensive. I wonder is that? I was in Sri Lanka and the Philippines and it is half of what the cost of living in Kenya. In the Philippines they have lots of beaches because it is all islands and I have seen Americans build a modern two bedroom house for under $30k, about KS 3 million, and very near a beach. I visited Kenya about 17 years ago and liked it very much. I was in Nairobi and Mombasa north coast and liked it a lot. I so much wanted to live in Mombasa because of the beach, but the cost of living was too high!! I just don't know how the local people manage. And then you have such rich people in Kenya like this neighborhood??? How do thry do it, as the salaries are less than half our salaries in the US. Of course we pay a lot of taxes in the US too which is why we have the best infrastructure and it is fully developed. This neighborhood is very beautiful. It is bright and sunny. And it is very cold and rainy here in the US because it is the beginning of winter. I hate the winter and am looking to leave the US because I cannot take the winters anymore. And the cost of living has gone through the roof after the Pandemic. I expected Kenya to be cheaper as the salaries are less than half or even less than the US for the middle class...I had some friends that live in Westlands in Nairobi from America and they told me how expensive everything is in Kenya. They are looking to move to South America or SE Asia. I love Kenya. Very friendly people. I wish I could move to Kenya. It would be my first choice. But I am looking at SE Asia as well where it is still cheap.
