Great reminder of something I’ve had to work on and need to continue working on. Thank you for bringing this to the front of my brain!❤️🥃

Great message, Josh. You hit all four of Goleman's quadrants of emotional intelligence: Self-awareness: Understanding your own emotions, strengths, weaknesses, values, and drivers Self-management: Managing your emotions instead of suppressing them Social awareness: Being aware of the social aspects of a situation Relationship management: Handling relationships well Enjoy the weekend!

Hadn’t heard of Goleman but I’m definitely looking this up. Sounds very interesting. Thanks for posting this Steve!

You’re absolutely right! As a truck driver I find find I take a lot of actions from cars and pickups personal because of how they react to “me” going down the road. In my nearly 4 million accident free miles people just don’t like trucks. I’m not a slow driver but I don’t drive 80mph all day either. Just gotta let things go and try our best to be nice, have patience and be kind to each other. ❤

Easiest said than done at times when behind the wheel, but good to practice for sure. Definitely makes the miles less stressful. My biggest issue behind the wheel is people doing dumb stuff that endangers others. Nothing sets me off quite like that.

Grace is one of those things that is difficult to give but after you give it it’s such a satisfying gift we can give. I just wish more people could let themselves experience it. It’s so humbling to give and receive it!❤

Hey…braces buddy! I’ve had mine on since June with upper jaw surgery on the horizon (in about a year) to fix alignment issues. AND I wore them back when I was 16 too. Only thing that bothers me is trying to talk quickly when teaching or singing quickly in my community choir. We’ll compare notes on dental products when I talk to you over the video interwebs.

Definitely game to commiserate! I'm still a little sore and eating is proving to be quite the challenge over the past week since I got them, but I'm hoping that subsides before long.

People I don’t know can say whatever they want. Good or bad I’ll probably hear it but I won’t take it to heart. People I love, I’ll listen to them because it’s probably something I should pay attention to. Cheers brother!!

Randy and I have talked about this recently, but I also had to "unplug" a little to refocus on my family. I love to chat bourbon with all my buddies, but family has to come first, so I've backed off alot.

I completely agree, I have turned off most all notifications where I can. A few extra things I’ve implemented, and I’m on an iPhone. 1. The Roots App. You can set limits on your apps, so once I hit my limit for the day it shuts the app down and makes it exceptionally hard to get into it. It’s really cut down on my social media doom scrolling. 2. The Home Screen. The new iOS lets you change the Home Screen to a monochrome color for the icons. I can’t describe how much less you want to interact with your phone when it isn’t as pretty and shiny to look at. I handed it to my wife to look something up, she couldn’t comprehend how I can even look at it.
@thedoerofstuff2 ай бұрын
It’s funny you did this video my wife and I just discussed yesterday how much more I am on my phone and not present. I started to think about it and how right she was. I am going to turn off all notifications and put my phone away. I love chatting with all my bourbon buddies but man it does suck you in.
@KyleKnapp-ze1ij2 ай бұрын
I couldn’t agree more. A few weeks ago I decided to silence many of my notifications and I feel it’s helped me a lot. My business runs thru my phone so I can’t shut them all down but the sideline stuff definitely doesn’t need all my attention. Good stuff Josh! Keep em comin!

We were just watching Ready Player One which deals with this as a normal way of life living in virtual reality. At the end of the they shut that down two days a week so you can not have that distraction. Simple but practical. Wise words here. Thank you!

I think we shy away from change because routine brings us a sense of security, and when change challenges that security, we fight it, because who wants to not feel safe? The bad thing that routine does, I think, is gives us a false sense that we are in control, and then here comes change to mess that all up too. It's hard to overcome. I wish I could say that I have, but I haven't. It's a constant work in progress, I believe.

Sometimes the hard things seem insurmountable because we are overwhelmed with the task in front of us. Can we break it down into more manageable pieces? Inch by inch it’s a cinch. Is this something I can commit to 20 minutes a day? 2 hours a week? What are the rewards if I do it? What are the consequences if I don’t do it or put it off too long? Short term and long term. Is this the right or honorable thing to do? Am I hurting someone else by not doing it? Am I hurting myself by not doing it? If someone I love came to me with the same dilemma, what advice would I give them. If all else fails, give it the thought and consideration it deserves and sleep on it before you go with a hard “no”.
