Sometimes in life a very rare melding of science, craftsmanship and art merge.

My dad had a series C Shadow and Comet. He went down to London from Sunderland to pick the Black Shadow up. On the way back home, 2 motorcycle cops tried to pull him over. He left them in the dust. Then, being the proper English gentleman, he pulled over and waited for them to catch up. They read him the riot act, He simply explained to them he let them catch him.

Yeh it looks good, but sound lol ,,thus a harley wou😂ld do,,😮 ,, let's all say harley harley harley harley ,or most japs sound better at 1000CC but not the V twins ,in line 4 ,,bring back the (real )XS 1•1and real GS 1000, and the GPz ,, and the rideable then CBs ,,give it proper back suspension, if your going to build a retro,,build it like it was ,but a little mod tweaks,,,why would you want traction control,, give modern fram, wheels, make the bike go round a corner ,go quick in a straight line ,make it sound like its happy to be alive ,,good old days retro right ,

I'm currently going through Michelle's book "Make Haste Slowly". Her recollection of events, race by race, is amazing. Keep in mind that at the time of this interview she was 78, yet here she was, still riding a race bike.

Can't say I fully understand Michelle, but I take my hat off to you. Part of the bike racing scene that makes some of today's prima Donna's look silly. Bill Ivy, Ago, Mike the Bike etc. 🙃🦊🙂🦡

I heard many years ago that the bike got its name because it had nothing on it that wasn't absolutely necessary, echoing lines from Kipling's poem - "and the uniform he wore was nothing much before, and rather less than half of that behind"

Gunga Din contributed to the reputation of British sidecar racer Pip Harris, who wanted one of the early Featherbed Manx Nortons for the 1952 season, but was refused by Norton Managing Director Gilbert Smith, as supply was well short of the demand. So Pip went to see Vincent at Stevenage and arranged to borrow Gunga Din, took the bike to the Watsonian Sidecars factory and they fitted him up with a racing chair, just in time to get his entry in for the annual 'Motor Cycling' magazine's Silverstone Saturday. In those days a practice session would accommodate both solos and sidecars and Pip went out in a mixed session and passed one of the Norton factory team's 350 down the straight, the thing was so fast. A couple of weeks later he won the sidecar race at Boreham airfield, then won the sidecar race at the Eppynt mountain circuit in Wales at record speed. No surprise that a couple of weeks later he got a letter from Norton telling him that they found they could supply him with a new 500cc Manx, which fitted in with the move to a 500 sidecar class at big meetings. I guess Gunga Din was put back into a well earned retirement with a few more victories on his record. Jim Reynolds.

E. Ennis below in a reply says that the E Type is the "most unreliable car ever made" What American rubbish! He is obviously jealous that the most beautiful and innovative sports car ever isn't from his country. I have owned two E Types and an XK-150. My current very original E Type (even has its original paint!) is quite reliable, and is a work of art that does more to put smiles on people's faces than just about anything else on the planet.
