I just bought a 2024 Ascent. My dog hits the rear dome light with his head causing it to turn on. Can you snip off the pin on th e front of the cover to prevent the light from coming on? Or, is there a better way to resolve this problem, I was also wondering if you have the part number for the cover should I want to replace the "snipped" one?

You should be able to *carefully* remove the Eyesight cover and flex the headliner a little bit to make it fall out - just make sure you don't accidentally create another issue by dropping it into your vents. I'd cover the defrost vents before trying.

Sadly, yes, they need to be replaced, and all the learning values need to be reset, and the system will need calibration. Prices vary considerably across the country due to differences in parts markups and labor, so, I'd shop around near you.

What is the roofrack and gas holding system you are running?
@SubaruAmbassadorRobert2 ай бұрын
The rack is one of my favs. It's the Rola Vortex (or V-Tex in some listings), with an 18" extension. It's super well built. If you plan on putting heavy stuff on your roof, I highly recommend it. WITH the extension, it's at the maximum my Ascent can fit (and still be able to open the liftgate). So, for an OB, I'd probably skip the extension. For a Crosstrek or Forester, I'd *definitely* skip the extension. On my FB profile, there's pics of it without the extension - still quite a big rack (the earlier pic is with the extension). I recommend doing what the Amazon reviewers say, and touch up the weld areas with some Krylon Fusion, and use some petroleum jelly in the joints under the rubber seals. I didn't - and while the rack is still solid, after 4 years of abuse, you can start to see some paint chipping in a few (very few) places. Here's the rack: amzn.to/3XpivQG Here's the extension: amzn.to/46q3Ad5 Eventually, I will be custom building an aluminum rack, but only because I want a little more width for my overlanding setup. The holders are by Orbis Overland. Look up their rack wing. Fits most Subies that have racks. Very good quality.

The folders are there to play the music - won't they just play in the folder, why would you need an additional playlist?
@SubaruAmbassadorRobert2 ай бұрын
Good question! Yes, an alternative is to organize content in folders, but, that doesn't guarantee a play order of the individual files. Also, some of us organize our music by albums (eg: Band->album->tracks). Also, some of us have some of the same songs in multiple playlists. For instance, in I have a general "Techno & D&B" playlist that has a mix of things that are fast, slow or in between. I also have one for focus that has only the ones with certain beat styles or other musical qualities. So, instead of having the same song in 3 different folders, I simply employ a few playlists. So, for some people, I think the folder method is a perfect (and easier) method. For other people, playlists really help.

It normally rides on a bigger lift than that (6.5cm), but we had a part failure during this trip, before we got there, that forced us to lower it, below OEM height, sadly. I hate it when they say "Normal" I KNOW IN FACT, NO ENGINEERS DESIGN THIS TO MAKE A CHIRP! Unless you can clearly show and state in the design documents that the chirp is "by design", it isn't. Seriously.... just cause it doesn't KILL someone doesn't mean it isn't faulty engineering. DO THE RIGHT THING Subaru. Lots of loyal people out there, don't need this excuse.
@SubaruAmbassadorRobert3 ай бұрын
Ummm.... it's the engineers who deemed the sound normal, just so you know. Metal makes sounds when it grabs like that. It's like the TR690's loud chain whirring... normal too, even if people don't like it (and believe me, people HATED it when it first came out - you should see some of the stuff Car & Drive wrote).

@@SubaruAmbassadorRobert I work in software development, if you can show me that was "design by" then sure.. if not it's just he said, she said because it doesn't kill any customers.
@SubaruAmbassadorRobert3 ай бұрын
@@HbYu-yt7ek you can literally look up the TSB's on this and see what the software is doing. Not sure why you made up a conclusion before you researched. It's all public information. You can also get an STIS subscription and start training on the HT-TR690 - alas, I can't confer years of learning about how it works in a KZbin reply. The system pressurizes, but allows the forward/reverse changeover mechanism to engage before it is pressurized for FAST engage, because doing so causes no damage. The clutch pack slow engagement makes the "chirp" as it engages and locks. The software prioritizes pressurizing the variators, then the input clutch. The F/R changeover just needs to reach full engagement in a second or so and it then stays that way until hydraulically disengaged (eg: "shifting" into neutral). BTW, since you think it's relevant, I'm currently the Director of Infrastructure for a state agency, with a background in programming, software development, hardware systems and cybersecurity, with around 4 decades of experience. That too you can research - you will find it on LinkedIn.

@SubaruAmbassadorRobert3 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, that's something that we wanted to do, but we didn't have extra mic packs. All the in-camera on-car mics pick up most of the time is wind noise. We've got four "in-device" tiny mic packs now that we can mount in or on the car in various places like up in the windshield cowl area out of the wind, etc, that can grab some nice road and car noise. We've also started running extra cams out of the wind to grab some audio. When we do some of the slower stuff, we get some nice car audio, like in some of the "normal speed" video sections in our "Moab Madness" video. But mostly, when moving even at those speeds (15-30 mph), the audio mostly sounds like a wind storm, lol!

In your opinion, how would you rank/compare the offroad capabilities of the ascent and the two wilderness trims?
@SubaruAmbassadorRobert4 ай бұрын
Hmmm... The Ascent is beastly powerful like the Outback Wilderness, and (with sway bars connected) can articulate any corner fully, unlike the smaller Subies, so that's a big plus. But, it has a MASSIVE belly and horrible angles, so, it hands down loses in those areas compared to all three Wildernesses. It does climb pretty effortlessly though, in some ways, better than the three Wildernesses, if it's moderately rutted, because it can keep wheels on the ground on changing terrain. Out of the factory, I'd choose a Wilderness over an Ascent though - the Ascent needs a bunch of work to make it off-road suitable (wheels, tires, stuff to improve angles). And if power is what you want, the Outback Wilderness is the clear winner. But, all three are great options. For better angles and a decent amount of space, I'd go Forester Wilderness. If you don't carry around a lot, and want something with great angles, I'd definitely go Crosstrek Wilderness.
