Even after reeading up on the lyrics and their meaning I still don't quite understand the ironey, and appariantly a lot of Irish patriots didn't like it when it was first published.

There is a stunning beauty in the banjo and guitar playing vocals the story of this song. Most Irish folksongs are based on true happenings, on hard times, and the brutality that people had to suffer over centuries and inflicted on them by their nearest dearest neighbor England. The Mary Wallopers are the band to carry on this great tradition of storytelling, history teaching and at the same time giving the best of fun to al the people

Let me introduce you to this flipping brilliant song and to my 2nd cousin the very great Peadar Kearney and Gaelic: Peadar Ó Cearnaígh who was an Irish republican and composer who also wrote other great rebel songs including "Amhrán na bhFiann - the Irish National Anthem. How great it is to see Freddy Mercury of Queen singing (set in the center with headphone) with the Mary Wallopers, Telling people about England's naughty times and how the English did their best for over 800 years to teach the Irish how to be nice and behave in a gentle and kindly way and to stop going to mass and to stop fighting back to defend themselves against the gentle and most honorable Mother English who did its very best to teach the Irish the English ways but the English failed again and again and again repeatedly over those 800 years of the brutal invasion of Ireland. O so sad for dear England who is no longer so mighty and powerful anymore which is So Sad O So Sad
