Whenever I need inspiration or more study, I go to Steve's vocals. I have learned so much just trying to sing these Kansas songs.

Posted 12 years ago? Today is 1/17/25. Funny how if this is from 81/82 it would be from just after the Schemer Dreamer album came out and while listening to it I thought how this sounds like a song that would be on that album. It fits right in there. Another odd thing is that when he made the first Streets album I read on a magazine at the time where Steve said “This is the band I’ve always wanted to be in” yet the Schemer album sounds nothing like the first Streets album. To think that he would say that about Streets after doing so much with Kansas and the intensity of the work with them. The Streets album was awesome, though.

@yactabay yes I uploaded this to KZbin 12 years ago. It is most likely from around the time of the Vinyl Confessions demos, right around the time he left Kansas, but no one but Steve can be sure exactly when and how. I think most of these resurfaced demos were from that time, and when the songs didn't fit VC they might have fallen between the cracks and ended up not being used when Steve headed in a new direction with Streets.

7:03 - 7:06 It always gave me an impression that Steve made a whistle after the last solo after "No moooore" 👀. Or the guitar reverb was TOO LOUD. Or a whistle along with the guitar! If it's a whistle from Walsh, he made an E6 😮. His vocal range is relatively large!

where was this 11-29-76 show recorded at? maybe Masonic? I saw them in early 1978 at Cobo ironically in a snowstorm and the Atlanta Rhythm Section opening couldn't make it into Detroit during the storm so Kansas played longer as the only act just brilliant that night during the Point of Know Return tour

6:10 - 6:13 This beautiful and well-connected phrasing with this other mini run.

6:07 - 6:09 - A mini runs and very precise, which fit perfectly in this version. Imagine if this mini run was in the studio version. It's so fast that it goes unnoticed.

I've seen this performance a few times but never commented, but I'll comment because it deserves it! Steve Walsh, as always bringing power and emotion in his voice! I love that in this performance he is not afraid to do runs and riffs and some improvisations and the tone bright and strong! 6:04 - 6:18. Look at these C5's! Powerful and beautiful.
@larissanascimento1035Ай бұрын
Look at that tone! Look at those vocals! To sing this song with such deep lyrics and in that emotion and intensity is up to him, Steve Walsh!
@larissanascimento1035Ай бұрын
That's what I always think about Steve and Kansas, Steve is the voice and soul of this band! There's no way around it! Other vocals may come, but putting your soul in your voice is only with Steve!
@linneasaoirseАй бұрын
@larissanascimento1035 Exactly! That's the way it feels for me too. Regardless of how good other vocalists are/have been at reaching notes, technically speaking etc, he is the one that no matter how his vocal chords were doing at the time, he ALWAYS delivered his heart and soul, that raw emotion that cannot be taught.

I believe he did a G2 (I'll measure and see if it's really that low note). yes, that's the low note he made. So, his range of it would be [G2 - C♯6] [Three octaves] Lowest note G2 - Lonely Street (Live) Highest note C♯6 - It's You, Masque Album So far, his vocal range is this.

What a gift to humanity and all things good. Im sure like all of us regrets and mistakes are in his concious, but what he did for so many of us leaves our life at a level it never would have been without him. I thank God for people who leave such an impact on our lives. Thank you to all of Kansas and a special thanks to the impressions Kansas left on my morality.

Kansas were one of the original true progressive rock bands. I had the pleasure of seeing Kansas live (and meeting Steve Walsh) at one of the most unusual venues you could imagine. Back in my US Navy days ... probably around 1986, I was on board the USS John F. Kennedy, CV-67. Kansas, along with Pablo Cruz and Michael Macdonald of the Doobie brothers, came and played a live show for us right there on the hangar deck in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Later on, I got to meet and chat with Steve for a minute.
