That stacker is likely Lathrop CA from Chicago train
@DonJr4259 күн бұрын
Could be, or it could have been heading to Oakland or to Lathrop then Oakland. I don't know which, because the train was only identified as a Z-train on the scanner; and I quote: "Calling the outbound for the Z-train." They changed crews shortly after passing my camera and, as you may already know, they were calling for the outbound crew. Thanks for watching.

As I mentioned above, the intermodal was a Z-train so IF it was going from North Platte to Oakland, its symbol would have been ZNPOA, or IF it was going to Lathrop the symbol would have been ZNPLT. If train came from Chicago then you would replace the NP with the appropriate code for yard it originated from. p. s. For anyone who doesn't already know, on the Union Pacific a Z-train is a premium intermodal and an I-train is a standard intermodal. -- Well I hope that wasn't as clear as mud. Everybody stay safe out there.

Nice video. I appreciate your timeline in the description. Thatbdouble grainer sure was long. Hate to be the patient on the other side of the tracks waiting for EMT's to arrive. It took nearly 15 minutes for it to pass even with the speed up near the end. By that time, the patient might be gone. One thing I noted was the crossing bell rang the full time the gates were down. Back East, the bells ring only while the gates are in motion. Much quieter, though not so good for the blind.
@DonJr4252 ай бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and that you found the timeline useful. Regarding potentially delaying EMT's; there is an overpass and an underpass not far from the railroad crossing, so emergency vehicles have a couple of alternate routes to get to the other side of the tracks. Plus there is more than one fire station on both sides of the rail yard, so delays caused by trains are not much of a problem in this area.

Love all that stack talk. Were those tracks are an uphill grade?
@DonJr4253 ай бұрын
Yes, the tracks are on an uphill grade. According to the information I have, the grade runs about 2.21% in that area. [Note: I updated the title of this video to reflect that.]

Excellent catch, looks like you got a little bonus viewing time thanks to the upcoming stop, and I loved hearing that long echo from the whistle too! Also, it's difficult to see, but if you look closely at the rear window of the California Zephyr you can see me waving as we go by! You might have to go frame by frame to see it though. I was recording out the back window for over an hour waiting to catch the Big Boy as it passed, and it ended up working out beautifully!
@DonJr4253 ай бұрын
As a matter of fact, when I was checking out various Big Boy videos, yours was one of the many that KZbin suggested. After watching it, I did review my video and thought I saw a figure in the window and wondered if that was you. Now I know. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks for filming this. For those that don't know, this location is where the lead tracks from the arrivals yard and departures yard converge with the Roseville Sub main track 1 and 2 and the Valley Sub. There is also a wye here. Most of the moves at Roseville intended to shuffle power between the roundhouse, arrivals yard, and east departure yard happen here.

LOL, I saw that long yellow train at Roseville on Saturday but I was too busy to stop. Now I feel like an idiot. I should have changed my plans and gone to explore it. Is there a rail fan Discord or something where you can find out about these events ahead of time?
@DonJr4254 ай бұрын
I don't know what may be on Discord, but in the case of Union Pacific's steam engines, you can get official information at their website. www.up.com/heritage/steam/index.htm
